We all know the pain of the laptop charger, a piece of technology that is essential but all wish we could do without. No matter the brand, the laptop charger is a brick, thus the popular term “power brick.” If you’re going on any kind of trip, you have to bring that ridiculously inconvenient cable that takes up room and will consistently tangle with any other wires you may have in your bag. For years, I’ve wondered why we were still lugging around such an inefficient necessity. Finally, someone has decided to fix this problem and its result will surprise you.
A Lighter Future
The Dart is a Kickstarter project that upgrades the laptop charger to the future of slim and efficient that pretty much every sector of technology has seen. The laptops themselves have gotten smaller yet more powerful and efficient and it’s about time the laptop charger got to grow up too. The Dart has a sleek aluminum look that makes it fit in with the most premium of laptops and a small profile that doesn’t take up outlet space (ahem, Apple). With cool colors, the Dart is easy to justify by looks alone.
But what about power? Rest assured, the Dart does not skimp on charging power. In fact, the Dart is the same 65W that all standard laptop chargers are rated. So you get the same charging power without the brick and a cool, premium look that will make people jealous. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, no, it’s not, because the Dart does not sacrifice anything because there’s nothing else you would need from a charger. In fact, it adds a little feature of being able to charge your laptop and a USB connected device at the same time.
More Options in the Future
The Dart comes in the regular laptop version and a MacBook version as well. There are no versions for the Surface tablet or the Google Chromebook Pixel currently because the Dart only comes in a 65W version with the typical laptop connector. However, this is only the first iteration of the Dart and with some profitable success, you can count on the company, FINsix, making versions that work with even more devices. They really have hit a sweet spot of innovation in the oversaturated market of laptops and laptop accessories. They’ve met their Kickstarter goal but there is still time for you to get in early!
