Nisolo Ethical Made Jewelry Kickstarts the Fashion Industry in a New Direction
Before I dive deep into what Nisolo is all about, I would like to share a little experience with you. Coming from an Indian state renowned for its creativity and art, I have often had the pleasure to meet artisans and makers in my life till date. Sometimes the way they work literally had me dumbstruck. My instant reaction to most of their work has always been “These people are genius!” But do they really get paid that well for the kind of amazing work they do? I feel terrible to say this but the answer to that question is a big “no”.
Most of these artisans still struggle to lead a standard life with their families inspite of being so creative in their work field. And somewhere down the line, even we are responsible for not uplifting their status by getting more of the products handmade by them.
Ethically Made Jewelry From Kenya
Consider everyday accessories which are ethically made. How many of them are really stylish? Mostly none which is why even if we are aware of the background these products come from, we still avoid purchasing them. There is a gap which needs to be bridged ASAP and I am glad Nisolo has been trying to do so for the past few years.
Naturally, when they came with their new line of ethically made jewelry handmade in Kenya, I couldn’t avoid discussing about them with you.
Great Combination of Style and Design
Nisolo believes that you can have ethically made products and great style at the same time. You don’t have to sacrifice your style in order to be socially conscious anymore. This is possibly why they have been valuing the design and quality of their products just as much as they value the people who make them.
If you are already aware of this brand, you must have come across their designer quality shoes handmade in Peru. Now Nisolo wants to take a step ahead and expand their products and social impact to Kenya in order to bring you beautiful, ethically-made jewelry.
This line of jewelry has been designed out of upcycled brass and sustainably sourced cow and camel bone.
Socially Conscious Brand With an Immense Sense of Style
The journey to Kenya started when one of the newest Nisolo team member introduced them to Raymond and his team in Kenya. This team of people have been making jewelry for almost 20 years and now with Nisolo, they can actually get that appropriate wage and well deserved facilities.
As described on their Kickstarter page, “We pay our artisans a fair price up front for their work. We also provide them interest free loans that can be paid back over time through purchase orders. This has meant new roofs on houses, new equipment for the workshop and other impactful investments that would have been out of reach.”
Currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, you can get your hands on this wonderful line of jewelry starting from a pre-order price of $35 only.
If you think ethical shopping had nothing to do with style, Nisolo can surely change your perspective at once! Happy Gadgeting!
