Display the architectural beauty of downtown Chicago in your home or office with the Microscape Chicago Collection 3D-Printed Cityscape Models. Microscape applies their aerial scanning and 3D printing process to create modular 1:5000 scale models of cities. Capturing the heart of the city, the collection features 36 detailed models that combine to form a 3D map of downtown Chicago. Altogether, the models form a three foot by three foot square. Likewise, individual models are six inches by six inches. Additionally, the downtown Chicago Collection covers approximately nine square miles. The models display everything from the Ferris Wheel on Navy Pier to the Hancock Building’s unique exterior cross-bracing. Finally, you can use Microscape’s searchable map of their website to find out which model a point of interest or specific street address falls on.

I haven't received the survey, and my emails have gone unanswered. Just wondering what's going on with my pledge. Please respond, as I am moving soon and would like to know if I should still dedicate room for this microscape on my wall.

Responded to survey on April 18. Delivery said April 2018. Any ETA on when we should expect delivery since we are into June?

Getting kind of concerned about the survey. I keep thinking that I am missing something...

Hello, I just wanted to point out a potential mistake on model 10-E. In the pics on your website, 311 W Illinois is depicted as being shorter than River North Park (320 W Illinois) across the street. When in fact 311 is slightly taller. And Hubbard Place (360 W Hubbard) is omitted completely (completed in 2013). If the pics on the website are simply outdated, then please disregard.

@Tarek,
We don't have the capacity at the moment to do that with all of the non-full model orders; however it's something we're looking at for the 9-panel arrangement. Please send us an email to info@microscape.co and we'll keep you posted on how that progresses.

Please please please make the metal water an option for 9-piece winners.... Would pay extra easily!

Hi There, is there anyway to upgrade my pledge? I didn't get the get correct one I was hoping for. I wanted the signed one, but I funded one different.

@Robert Clarke,
The material holds up well. We haven't had an issues with discoloring or warping. Some of the smaller details can be delicate, so we recommend using the small cans of compressed air to dust it on occasion. The complete model of Manhattan that's been in our conference room for the past couple of years may have only been dusted once since we've installed it.

Hi, how will the printing plastic hold up over time? Will it yellow? Will any of the small details warp? Is it easily cleaned? Thanks!

@Alberto, While the MILA building doesn't show up in the prototype images on Kickstarter, it will appear in the models when we begin shipping them. Thanks.

Hi, will the building on the corner of Michigan and Lake (MILA) be included? Thanks

@Tarek , That's something we're looking into, but at the moment, we're only able to offer that for the new reward tier. Please feel free to email us at info@microscape.co and we can pick things up from there. Thanks!

Hey guys, I love the metallic water. I was wondering if I can get it in my 9-piece selection...

Hi, Have you guys ever considered a subscription based model? Perhaps monthly billing and shipping out 1 piece per month? This would allow someone to collect the entire collection over 36 months, and make it feel more valued because it took time to collect all of the pieces. It would also help spread out the cost for the buyer and also give you a steady, reliable stream of income during that period of time.

@Jinghai Ho and anyone else that might be interested,
We're getting close to making a fully interactive map available. In the meantime this may give you a better understanding of the areas captured in this collection. http://towndesign.nyc/microscape-chicago/

@Pete Czosnyka, Yes, you'll find both Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate and Frank Gehry's Pritzker Pavilion on model 09-F. We'll be posting additional photos of the models in the collection, but right now you can see 09-F in the very first photo under the "About" heading on our Campaign page, as well as in the third and fifth images under "Reward Options".

I pledged a dollar just so I could say this-- but if this project doesn't somehow end up in the next Dresden Files book, I'll be very disappointed in Jim Butcher.

@Amy Lu and @Moriah Rahamim, Thanks for showing your support! @b and @Bret C, Thanks for the feedback. we've certainly tested out a variety of scales and found that 1:5000 is the best balance between providing a significant section of the city while also preserving the high level of detail that we've managed to capture in our aerial scans and digital modeling. We've created custom commission scaled models for different clients on request, but at the moment we're focusing on this scale that we've determined is optimal given all of the variables.

This is cool, but is just too expensive for white, 3D printed plastic.
+1 to b's comment about a nano version and limited license for the files.

What about a "nano" version of the whole city... Say 1ftx1ft? Also, what about a reward tier for the printable files ( obj, still, etc) - along w a limited license, obviously?

Amazing! I love the manhattan collection so I'm super excited for the Chicago one. If you're on the fence on whether or not you want to back the project, trust me, do it! It's a beautiful addition to any space and a very well received gift :)
