Discovered on 2018-05-03

Change your riding experience with the ShockStop Adjustable Suspension Seatpost. This seatpost makes it easy to add suspension to your bike. Featuring a sleek and understated design, the ShockStop Seatpost hides 35mm of active suspension travel that eats bumps and kills vibration. It’s suitable for city streets, gravel trails, country roads, and more. And, you can adjust the pre-load and spring rate to suit your personal riding style. By suspending your body, the seatpost isolates you from the imperfections of the road or trail. The travel and suspension kinematics have been optimized so that the seatpost provides a plush and bottomless feel. The ShockStop Seatpost keeps you stable as rough terrain is absorbed by the bike, allowing you to ride faster and more efficiently. Spend more time in the saddle and less time feeling it afterward.

@Stephane - thanks for reaching out. Probably best to use your weight when in your normal riding attire. And for springs, each one covers multiple weight ranges and they overlap a good bit due to the ability to adjust the pre-load. So, for most people, the standard spring will work great but we will have springs to accommodate everyone across the whole range of weights. Email us at support@redshiftsports.com and we can see if the range you are trying to accommodate might require more than than the standard. Thanks.

Hello ShockStop team,
regarding the "Choose Rider Weight for ShockStop Suspension Seatpost" question in the survey, what weight should we use? The one you see on the scale in the morning or the one inclusive clothes and backpack without shoes?
And is it possible to buy an additional spring directly? I bought two seatposts and would like to give my friend a try, but if I will use both later I need a different spring. Thanks in advance! Can't wait to get mine!

@David - it seems like you have some filters blocking kickstarter and backerkit emails. But that is no problem, I will send an email directly to you with additional info. If you do not receive this email please contact us at support@redshiftsports.com.

@David - so sorry that the backerkit survey emails are not getting through. I sent you an email via kickstarter with your direct survey link so let us know if that works. Thanks!

Hi there again, As per my last post, I have already tried that link and still not received the survey into my email address. Please advise how we can resolve this. Thank you David

@Stephane - a shim for 27.2mm to 30.4mm is made by a few brands but it is not that common so it is not one we offer. You should be able to have your local bike shop order one for you or find one online - just search for "27.2mm to 30.4mm seatpost shim". Sorry that we don't have that size but it should not be hard to find one. If you can't find anything email us and we can point you to some sources. Thanks!

Hi there, Apologies but I didn’t receive my survey. I have asked for it to be sent to me using your separate link but I also have not received it. I have checked my email address is still correct and my junk/spam box, still no trace. Can you advise me please? Thanks, David

@Erick - the post has been tested on tour divide and bike packing type routes and it works great there. And as far as the stem goes, it has been battle tested by lots of riders over the 3 years it has been available. It has been used in the tour divide, dirty kansa 200, Landrun 100, just recently to win the race across America, and on lots of epic rides.

Question guys, I might have asked this previously or a similar question. Has the post been tested on bikepacking routes? I’m looking at heading back to Banff for the Tour Divide next summer and want to use this big time! Also is the stem post tested as well??

@JC - Pretty much all saddles have standard 7mm diameter rails which is what the ShockStop saddle clamp is compatible with. Some saddles have non-standard oval rails that measure 7x9mm so we are providing an add-on to allow these saddles to work with the post. So, unless you have an oval rail saddle (which you would know because they are pretty unique) you don't need to worry about this.

Review from Kickstarter
I've started filling in my survey and noticed on checkout the 'Oval Rail Saddle Clamp' accessory. Do saddle rails vary so differently that I need to consider adding this, or should the (included?) standard one suit fine?

@Laurence - You can definitely switch the post between bikes no problem. We are just curious about what kind of bikes people will be using with the post so its just an informational question. You can just select the one you think you will use more often.

In the survey, you ask what bike the seat post will be installed on. Does the answer matter? Will I be okay switching it between a road bike and a mountain bike?

@RedShift - thanks for the response and updating the FAQ. I had confidence backing this seatpost as I was very happy with my RedShift suspension stem. It performed well on my gravel bike through a 12 day off road ride through the Munda Biddi Trail in Western Australia. Thumbs up!

Just putting it out there for Ron H and others worried about component security. HEXLOX is a good investment, and if you live in a high-theft area and rock the entire (rather lucrative) ShockStop system, you can go slightly overkill and do what I did to boot: purchase one separate Datatag Stealth Pro -kit for the Shockstop seatpost and stem alone. You UV-etch the components, add micro-identification dots in an adhesive fluid to out-of-the-way places on the system and finally add the deterrent stickers to the stem and the seatpost. When you register the system, you type ”VARIES” into the frame number -section, so whenever you move your ShockStop system from one bike to the next, your details stay valid in the DataTag register. In the end it’s just an additional layer of deterrent, but I happen to think it’s a good one.

@Ivan Liew if you are in between weight ranges, go with the higher weight category. For more frequently asked questions, you can click on the "Need help" link within the survey as well!

I am right in the middle of the weight selection of the seatpost 68-69kg. What would the difference be if I go up or down? Will I be able to adjust the elastomers like I do on my Redshift suspension stem?

@Ron - the best thing to do is get some HEXLOX or other anti-theft bolt system. You can use the hexlox to prevent removal of the seatpost clamp bolt and saddle clamp bolt to ensure everything stay with your bike. And if you really wanted to use a cable lock to secure the seatpost, you could do that by loosening the pre-load to the point that you could get the cable through the linkages. But, I would definitely recommend HEXLOX as a much easier solution.

Is there a way to run a cable lock through it. Would hate to have it walk away when parked in the city.

@brandon Thanks for checking in with us! We will be posting an update this week and we've been finalizing the survey questions so it is almost ready to go out. There will be an option to ship the stem early within the survey and we'll be able to ship them out within 1-2 weeks.

@William - we always encourage people to stick to the weight limits on any product since they are related to safety and product life-cycle. So, as long as you are right on or below the weight limit you will have no issues. Will also respond to the email you sent.

So I weigh about 230 and with a backpack I’ll be over the weight limit. Should I be concerned about that?

To our international backers:
Good news! We were able to find a shipping provider that will allow us to offer a prepaid option for those who would prefer to pay the taxes & duties up front. The shipping provider charges a fee of €10 for the prepaid VAT service (in addition to the tax and duty amount). We will continue to look for even easier and cheaper options to prepay VAT after the campaign ends, but we wanted to update you now to let you know that this will be an option.

@Ken - The ShockStop Seatpost is 27.2mm in diameter and 350mm long. Typically, folding bikes use very long seatposts in larger diameters. But, many folding bikes come with and can work with telescopic seatposts (Brompton is one of these). These allow you to use a standard seatpost like the ShockStop by adding an extension that fits into the bike and accepts the standard seatpost. Check with you local bike shop or bike manufacturer to see if one of these is available and if it will accept a 27.2mm diameter post. An example of one that does is the Tern telescopic seatpost: https://www.ternbicycles.com/us/gear/471/telescopic-seatpost - Thanks!

Hello, I just returned from the International Bike Show in Shanghai. I saw this product in a booth there and wondered if this was your product at the show? I didn't see if it was exactly the same, but the display worked exactly the same as your videos...

@Mark - a simpler answer would probably be to adjust the preload downward so that you are sagging slightly further down into the linkage travel under normal riding weight. That would have an effect similar to putting a spacer in the linkage, but without limiting upward movement, which is an important contributor to the comfort of the post. FYI, there is actually a thin elastomer pad between the linkages already to eliminate top-out noise.
Mark
Review from Kickstarter
I don't suppose it'd be possible to do a version with more than 10mm of rearward setback? Or, since it goes farther back with more compression, would it be a bad idea to put a spacer between the parallelogram links/bars? Obviously at the expense of travel. Bonus: if it's an elastomer spacer, rebound wouldn't be as harsh.

@Ron - it is super easy to remove from the bike - just like removing any typical seatpost. All you need to do is loosen the seatpost clamp and just remove the post; it will maintain the spring pre-load setup and saddle clamp setup.

How easy is it to remove the post once it is setup. I have to park my fat bike in some sketchy areas and typically remove the post and saddle when there aren't other people around.

@Erick - the ShockStop Seatpost is perfect for races like the Tour Divide. We absolutely had that type of ultra endurance race in mind during development. Our ShockStop Stem is being used for those kind of events and we see this as the perfect compliment.

@Redshift Sports how would this seatpost handle an ultra endurance race like the Tour Divide? I am totally wanting this to make the long rides/races I compete in much smoother and easier on the body.
