@JC We designed the Domio Pro to work all the day, even in extreme cold temperatures, as a result the battery is life is quite extensive in most use cases. As a rule of thumb the battery lasts 24-30hrs in regular mild weather and takes about 2 hours to fully charge. In extreme -20C weather we get about 8hours out of it. Thanks,
Bart

Thanks Bart! I think I'd mount it in the same way for myself.

@chocolate thanks for the support and great question! Your analogy is correct. The other the factor that makes a difference is the thickness of the helmet in the different mounting areas. As a general rule of thumb: Mounting on the back is super deep, bassy and balanced throughout the helmet. The top is less bassy, but it's very balanced with true 360 degree distribution, and the side is a nice mid of the two with sound skewed towards that ear where it's mounted. I prefer the back myself. It's close to the ears, balanced and I love the depth of sound when mounted in this area! Cheers,
Bart

@james Good point. Exactly for this reason we are offering two helmet mounts in each Domio Pro package. However, if you would like to add on another set of mounts ( for 2 more Domio helmet mounts, and 2 more Air Mic clips) please add $20 to any pledge. This is a Kickstarter promo and about 50% off retail. Thanks!

I'm so excited about the safety design of the sound transmission. I definitely don't want ANY kind of ambient noise cancellation when riding. Does different positioning of the vibration unit on the helmet effect the direction sound is received in the helmet? I.E. I'm picturing earthquake shock waves from source (stronger at source, weaker as it spreads out).

Can you buy or you be offering additional mounts so can use with a range of helmets . I own 4 helmets.

@mazorca Yes shipping is free (included in the price), any customs/local duties depends on your country, we have no control over that unfortunately.

Review from Kickstarter
@pepjn Thanks and great questions! 1.Right now the product can connect with one Bluetooth transmitter at a time. Be it, phone navigation device, etc.
2.Noise cancellation is done via a combination of physical and digital elimination of background noise and works very well on highways, high winds etc. The Air Mic™ can actually be mounted on the inside of full face helmets (recommended). Please see Mounting your Domio Pro video - we have a short animation on how that works.
3. Domio is not a speaker so its not audible to bystanders directly, but there can be some leakage (energy bouncing off helmet shell) leading it to be audible to outside. But we're talking very little and a non-factor when outside. Cheers!

Are shipping costs and customs fees to EU included in pledged USD prices

And, can it connect to multiple devices, say both a phone and navigation device?
Pepijn
Review from Kickstarter
Promising product! Do you think you could manage some noise cancelling, would be welcome on fullface helmets on the highway.
How does sound travel outside the helmet, will it be audible for bystanders? Thanks

@chun good question probably should probably add it to the FAQ. Yes the Domio Pro can be mounted and works well with any such helmets. We tried it on all kinds of shells and surfaces.

Hi is it possible to mount onto helmets that are not 100% hard shell e.g. hedkayse type helmets
Domio Sports
Review from Kickstarter
@Duarte The mounts are very similar in terms of adhesion to GoPro mounts (if you're familiar with those). You can remove them cleanly off your helmet, but you will need to use a hair dryer to warm up the 3M™ adhesive before peeling off. Hope that helps! Thanks.

After using a mount on a helmet, how easy is it to remove the mount a use it on another helmet? (I know we can get more mounts but still...) Thanks!

Mine was in 8th grade on my friends older brother's 2 stroke dirt bike. It wasn't a pretty start! To your questions: 1) The Pro is meant for mobile based comms, not helmet to helmet intercom. We are working on this and hope to release an intercom version in about 18-24months. 2)For sure! We already include 2 mounts and 2 clips with the standard package, but are selling full extra sets at 50% off (only $20). Simply add $20 to any pledge. Thanks for your questions!

@yann The device is IPX5. So not meant to immersed in water but can withstand any rain, snow, soaking etc. The Mic is compatible with smartphone assist. Right now we have Android compatibility and are working to integrate iOs. Good questions!

What is waterproof protection ipx7? With the mic is it compatible with smartphone assistant even if I not a big fan. Thank you

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. It looks like the back of the helmet for me as I like it bassy. Also, it does not break up the symmetry of the form of the helmet with something on one side but not the other.

@yann Good question. In addition to the Air Mic™ there are two improvements to the original: The new Pro has an enhanced amplification processor, as well as more powerful micro-vibration transducer. The result 2X louder sound with better clarity at max volume. (We did this for our riders with super loud bikes or those who ride at super high speeds). We also made a slight adjustment to the mounting system, adding release button which reduces wear on the mount and keeps the Domio in place more firmly. Thanks,

Hi @gadgetstorm great questions! Mounting position is entirely personal preference, as is how it looks on your helmet. We think it looks pretty awesome on top. As far has how it sounds in these positions, as a rule of thumb, the back is super deep, bassy and balanced, the top is less bassy, but it's very balanced, and the side is the nice mid of the two with sound skewed towards that ear where it's mounted. This is difference in sound is largely dictated by the thickness of the helmet in those various areas. I would agree that the left side makes most sense for easier access to controls but its not necessary. For calls you tap the center button on the Domio (not the AirMic™) to answer and end. Pretty simple and easy to access with a glove. Lastly, we are working to add helmet-to-helmet intercom style comms and are developing our own proprietary sub-GHz network. Integrating with GoTenna and the likes is an interesting idea. I'll have to reach out to them and look into it! Cheers,

For a motorcycle, I think the vibration unit would be best mounted on the left side of the helmet. Your right hand is on the throttle most of the time after all. Also, it just looks daft sitting on top of the helmet like a sore thumb. So, my question is if the mounting position affects the sound quality or stereo effect. If it is mounted on the left, does the left side have a louder sound or is the sound uniform all over no matter where the unit is mounted? Also, how do we answer calls? Is it simply press any button on the unit? Are you able to implement mesh communication through the units like the goTenna, Sonnett or Gotoky which as I understand it are a kind of walkie-talkie device to device communicator without using cellular services?

@Yann I’ve tried the new one and the audio output is significantly louder than the original domio. Will def work for moto.

I saw the demo of this product and it’s unreal! The clarity and sound quality is like a phantom speaker. I would wear it at home but my family will think I’m crazy! Crazy what we can do with technology. I can see this go crazy in South America and Europe where the motorcycle population is huge! Just backed them
