Any plans to offer a 5 string version since 5 string basses have become so popular?

Grayson’s attempts to compare Fretlight’s to Fret Zealot, pre edited stuff and I was a little out of my comfort zone as I’ve never done anything like this... but I also had so much to say... https://photos.app.goo.gl/sMoW9SU8ZQDdLDbB6 Will get heavily edited or reworked I imagine, comments and feedback critical or otherwise very welcome cos I gotta learn somehow
| (• ◡•)| Wanted feedback from the team or other Zealots before uploading. What would you like me to do that I didn’t do or that only I can do in the situation of owning both FZ and 5 Fretlight’s? Grayson King

p.s. It will also convert between the 4 formats.

Actually, the toolkit will make Rocksmith files for PC (what I have), Mac, XBox, and PS3/4. I will try and upload the Guitar Pro stuff when I get a chance tonight.

A fantastic review of Fret Zealot (regular guitar version) just came out from the Gear Man Dude! Check it out here: https://youtu.be/CKctumpc__U @Paul Grunwald - that's a great site, but it only creates files for use on the RockSmith console games, not the iOS app unfortunately.

Note that the RS Toolkit will create Guitar Pro files from "all" Rocksmith files, either paid or from CustomsForge. https://www.rscustom.net/

@Grayson King - that's great to hear! If they're doing an iOS app, then our SDK will work as-is and can just be plugged in. Now they just need to recognize us and be open to it :-). @R.Gol - yep! We're starting the bass-specific software sprint now. In the meantime, though, you can upload any songs you have (Guitar Pro or MIDI) here: http://elb.fretzealot.com/songs/uploadSongByUser

Will the software available soon? Maybe it is a good idea to make it available before actually sending out the hardware so we can already start to upload songs.

More on the Rocksmith iOS for those interested (as I didn’t know they were working on this). Seems to be Rocksmith 2014, which makes sense. Is free initially but only comes with 4 songs but you can buy more in-app. Can use iPhone/iPad/iPod microphone for acoustics (when it comes out, otherwise the soft launch is iPad and Canada only) or their Real Tone cable plus this $29 Lightning to USB converter (better for electrics and basses) https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD821AM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter… Got my info here: https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1668565-Rocksmith-on-iOS-General-Questions-amp-Answers-Forums I’m disappointed about the 4 free song thing tbh but who knows it could be alright, personally I’d sooner see the AI mode on FZ developed and a play page similar to Ultimate Guitar but where the chords light up/Rocksmith type visual display (I’m not sure but I think there’s probably not a licensing issue there for that display format but I’d understand if there was)
¯_(ツ)_/¯

And as far as I can tell it’s exclusively available for iPads and only if you’re in Canada!! So that’s definitely early days aye? 😂

@Edge Tech - don't feel bad about not being able to find the Stage bass I mentioned. They were Fender knock offs made back in the 90's. Company got taken to court and shut down by Fender. But for being a "knock off" they sound great.

@Paul Grunwald - we are continuing to talk with Hal Leonard to get them on board with allowing us to support the bass course. Please email them and let them know you're like them to work with us! Believe us- it helps and they do listen if enough people request it. For RockSmith, the main challenge is that Fret Zealot was designed for mobile devices, while RockSmith was designed exclusively for consoles, and only recently has started bringing some of its features to iOS. We have developed an SDK for easing integration into Android/iOS, but so far have been unsuccessful in our attempts to contact the developer team to move this along :-/. If you’re a RockSmith user, and want to see Fret Zealot working with RockSmith, please let them know this on Facebook, twitter, etc!

I’m really looking forward to the product. Any chance the Hal Leonard bass course will be supported? Any progress with Ubisoft on Rocksmith integration?

One early bird special coming up
| (• ◡•)| I’m afraid I can’t afford this right now or I’d be ON it ;) I shall chip in $5 so I can support a little and stay informed rather than vanishing completely These guys have more than proven they mean business in regards to customer satisfaction with me as I was unlucky in my original FZ’s having defects here and there and they had to resolve frustrating tech issues (for them more than me, I took it like a champ entirely cos they’ve been bloody lovely tbh haha 😂) More than anything they actually listen to our feedback and I’m a ranter as we all know, but I feel heard. I’m gonna do a Fret Zealot vs Fretlight blog/YouTube thingy (which will include a review and comparison of both and what I hope they bring to the table next - which is my specialty, dreaming up things they could do with it haha). I’ve got both and FZ are the upstarts as Fretlight have been around a long time (I’ve got 5 Fretlights bought at different times at reduced prices etc) but there’s things to caution people about regarding them to help inform their decisions and they don’t innovate often or update the functionality much imo Whereas Fret Zealot’s team is out to cause waves and I’ll be paying attention to them for some time Anyways early bird special coming up snag it whilst you can

@Jim - that Stage bass is difficult to find. As long as it's a full size base (not a junior size) and 4 string, then Fret Zealot will fit for sure! FYI- we'll happily do a return for an uninstalled Fret Zealot, so there's no risk to getting one and seeing how it fits before installing it :-) @Brent - Fret Zealot should work! The scale length just needs to be 34" or longer, which is the standard for bass guitars now, but 1969 was a long time ago haha. Do you happen to know the scale length of your bass? FYI- we'll happily do a return for an uninstalled Fret Zealot, so there's no risk to getting one and seeing how it fits before installing it :-) @R.Gol - thanks for tuning in! That's funny that you mention the 3 LEDs. They were indeed out :-). We did the "accordion test" on that strip to see what kind of craziness we would have to do to actually break it, but then forgot to swap it out with a new prototype. Regarding your Warwick, you're good to go for sure! We spaced the LEDs such that it will fit all nut and neck widths. We verified manufacturers' info with some fun trips to Guitar Centers (a couple guys measuring every bass guitar with digital calipers is quite the unique sight). For scale length, you're good to go as well and it will indeed be a perfect fit since your scale length is 34". The bass Fret Zealot will fit 34" and up. We haven't encountered a full size / standard bass below 34". Less than 34" is considered a "junior" size now. The number of frets doesn't matter- it's all about that scale length measurement.

Unfortunately the "Mail"-Button is not working - so my questions as a comment: Watched the Stream - the 3 broken LEDs on top are a free feature? ;-P I wonder a little about the width of the neck, the one in the show seems quite wide, can you check if there is no overhang for my Bass (Warwick Rockbass): Scale length: 34" (long scale)
Width Nut: 38,5 mm / 1.5"
Width 12th fret: 54,0 mm / 2.1"
Width 24th fret: 62,1 mm / 2.4" Also the Length - I am not very familiar with the scales but the bass shown has 21 frets - the Warwick has 24 - is the one shown a medium scale? Will it fit perfect to a long scale Bass or will there be some gaps? I saw some guitar installations with different scales and some of them had quite ugly gaps. Don't know if there are so big differences for basses too.

Thankful this is here. I backed the FZ for guitar but had asked in that campaign about a bass version for my 1969 Telecaster Bass. *rubs hands greedily* I believe you can make this happen! Cheers,

@Grayson King - That's kinda what I had assumed. I was just wondering if they had tried it on a fretless bass to see how well or poorly it worked. Whether it interfered with being able to properly finger the strings. @Edge Tech - Actually I have two basses. A Yamaha RBX250F (i think... i don't have it hear in front of me) and a Stage HD1440 (fretted).

A fantastic review just came out about Fret Zealot from Stereo Stickman! We highly recommend you take a look here: https://stereostickman.com/fret-zealot-the-new-way-to-learn-to-play-guitar-a-comprehensive-review/ @Grayson King - thanks for the help answering :-) @Jim - we agree with Grayson. It probably would detract from the purpose of a fretless bass unfortunately. It would help with initial learning for sure, though. Can you tell us the Make and Model of your bass so we can take a look for ourselves?
Grayson King
Review from Kickstarter
I doubt it will work well. The light strip will try and act like a fret and that means the string will rub against it and damage them ultimately. That’s my guess anyway. Also a previous backer of FZ. They hide behind the frets and are half the thickness of frets, they don’t engage with the string at all when all things are as they should be
Jim

@R.Gol - no worries! It will be available afterwords to watch on Kickstarter. Not sure if we'll get a copy for YouTube after, but we will see. really hoping this hits the goal (and confident with the track record that unlike some Kickstarters this one will actually deliver!) ... I've been trying to learn Bass for, oh, 20 years now... have it sitting in my home office making me feel guilty every day... never find the time to schedule lessons so having something that can guide me will be a huge help (just knowing where and when to put my fingers to match the tabs will help a lot!)

@R.Gol - the control box is 0.75" x 1.75" x 3". Here's a video showing how it goes together: https://youtu.be/6aMY1HtLvJU. The connector will eventually be smaller, but there were quality issues with the supplier, so we're using one we know works until we can ensure the smaller one is 100% good. The good news is that the connector cable is a commercially standard 4-conductor audio cable! You can get any length you want and swap it in so that you can put the control unit anywhere you want :-).
R.Gol
Review from Kickstarter
How big is the control unit? I also wonder why the cable and connectors are so ugly, big and thick. Wouldn't it be much better to have some kind of mini-connector?
Also a connection possibility on both ends would be great - so with the above proposed mini-connector and thin wire you could run down the neck and for example manufacture a compartment inside the body or find another suitable place at the body or strap.

@Bjorn Steens - we'll add that to our list and reach out! Regarding shipping, the guitar version is available now (or as soon as we get more inventory), so we don't want people to have to wait until August. Bass backers should message us and we can give them a thank you discount that they can use immediately :-)

Just a thought... at checkout, offer people also the possibility to buy a "normal" guitar version as an add-on? Maybe with some discount (10-15%)? Would this increase shipping a lot?
