Get all the comforts of home on your next outdoor adventure with the LUME Burr Coffee Grinder Camp Light. This two-in-one system is as innovative as it is handy. Totally portable, the LUME features a professional grade burr coffee grinder. The grinds are consistently great. Because every brewing method is different, you can adjust the size of your grounds as and when you need. Whirring away on your beans, a single charge will grind up to 50 cups. Whether you’re in the great outdoors or simply at home, LUME makes prepping your coffee a total breeze. In addition, it comes in at 22 ounces making it one of the lightest on the market. However, this device doesn’t just grind. LUME illuminates with the built-in light to give you 150 lumens. This is enough brightness for reading in your tent, moving around the campsite, and so much more. With a full battery, you get 20 hours of light.

I am very happy with my Lume. Long lasting battery and very good grinding. How can I buy another one?

Great grinder. Works like a charm and the grinding is so much better than the more common hand grinders or electric blade cutting grinders. Great work!

@Derek Jacobs: Sorry for the late reply we don't monitor KS much any more. This is very strange we have paid full shipping fee before sending any package. You should NOT need to pay anything for receiving. Please forward your payment receipt to LUME support and we'll investigate.

I'm backer #175 (U.S) and received mine a few days ago. Loving it so far! The grind size adjustment could use better instruction (yes I saw the video, and it's not specific enough and the numbers are confusing), but overall I've replaced my trusty hand-crank burr grinder with this and it's got a more consistent grind (as long as I don't move it around while it's working). Very happy with it!

Hi Penn. received my lume about 3 days ago. Works well enough, figured it out but was a little surprised about the lack of basic instructions, but all good. Was just wondering about the light.
There are 3 light levels, low, medium and high, but it never turns off. It’s a really low brightness at its lowest but battery wise I was a little surprised.

got mine after a looooong shipping history. Works as intended, and will surely accompany me on my summer camping if summer ever comes to our parts of the globe. A suggestion for future generations of the product though - make a clear and absolute grind size adjustment scale, preferably on some external part of the unit's body. Not that the current setup is not working, but that would make it more user-friendly.

@BF: Apologies for not being able to deliver in time for Christmas. Please reach out to support @ hellolume .com for our refund policy. We have discovered the other vendor is indeed violating contract/IP selling a knockout online. We have initiated proper legal procedures to take them down. As we understand your frustration yet we hope our fulfillment missteps won't reflect badly on the entire Kickstarter community. Regards and happy holidays.

@creator...I would say that there is significant "injury" to you and your business if they did leak your plans. They have robbed you of any perception of "original, first market advantage" and a good portion of sales in your initial, "post kickstarter," commercial launches. Best of luck.

Review from Kickstarter
Hi guys, both my grinders are not in the center and the ceramics are grinding each other, without beans.
How would l know if it is faulty assembly, how to fix it?
Penn Li
Review from Kickstarter
@HYOUK SOO KWON: Our entire engineering team went through all your videos and below are feedbacks to your concerns: ***Moving parts*** It looks like you may have a misconception regarding what makes a good grinder design. All the parts you showed in your videos that’s “unstable” or “shaky” were actually purposeful design. Fixing all parts tightly everywhere actually will yield much worse result and putting unnecessary strain on the motor and battery. Here is a simple analogy to explain it: If you want to sand a piece of glassware, would you wrap the sand paper on a hammer or would you wrap it around your hand to do it? Grinding beans are very much like sanding something very brittle - all the moving parts work together as soft buffers so that the beans won’t chip/break too quickly/easily. **So the shaking burr won’t matter?** Yes of course it matters. But it matters in a different way than you think. It is not a problem if the burr is rotating off-centered just a tiny bit. Instead it is much more important that every spin it offsets in a consistent manner. So hypothetically if a full 360 degree spin is off-centered by 2 degrees, then the next spin should be off-centered by 2 degrees. It’s the micro, inconsistent shaking between EACH turn would greatly affect the ground quality. **How did we find out?** In our research/prototyping stage, we used high speed video camera to film almost all of the best selling hand
grinder in the market. We discovered that all of them have micro-shaking issue more or less when it grinds(each spin is never the same as the previous one). **Then why can’t they fix it?** Apart from the design flaws, all hand grinders can’t avoid the human factor - hands can’t never generate consistent torque. This is where our special-designed motor comes into play. In your comment, you didn’t the grinding being too slow. This is actually not a design mistake. The faster the motor shaft rotates, the less consistent torque it’ll generate. We slow down the spin speed only to increase ground quality. Also in your video when you wanted to show how wobbly the burr runs, you set the burr very very loose. So loose that no way you’ll be able to grind anything. That to us actually is a bit of an impractical demonstration that only visually dramatize the wobbly effect more than anything else. **Other concerns** You mentioned noise - can we encourage you to completely remove the burr and test the noise again. You will be surprised most of the noise is actually from the motor. Not from the burr clashing like you explained. You also worried about ceramic burr’s lifespan. May I ask if you have ever used a ceramic blade? We know a steel blade will go blunt over time and you’ll need to sharpen it. But I use many ceramic blades myself and I have never ever need to sharpen it. **What matters the most?** End of the day, the quality of the ground is what matters. We really believe our design is sound and challenges from hand grinders are welcomed. As we mentioned in a previous reply - If you can find a hand grinder in the same price range that is consistently superior. Please let us know and we will reward you a $500 finders fee if our test turns out being the case. Also please don’t forget your satisfaction is very important. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team to learn our refund policy if you decide to return the product. Best regards,
The LUME team

Oh.. it is already out in the market selling as ALOCS coffee grinder (probably OEM)!
Interesting thing is... with all the emphasis on stable axle with even grinding size in this Kickstarter campaign, ALOCS grinder (LUME) does not emphasize this on the detailed description. It simply mentions "fairly good grind consistency" with more emphasis on light and portability.
Well I guess you are on the right track, and you already know that the "even grinding size" is not achievable with your product...

@HYOUK SOO KWON: Hey Hyouk, we appreciate your effort doing lots of work uploading the videos. Out engineering team is looking into each of your claims and will response next week. We stand by the quality of our design and product and welcome the challenge from any hand grinders in the market. If you can prove systematically any hand grinders at the same tier of price would have obvious superiority ground result over LUME. We will offer you USD$500 reward.

Addendum to the long comment I wrote beneath. I bought two Lume and they both have same problems with uneven grinding sizes and non-central off the center rotation of the axis and grinder.
I will use this product because it still does grind the coffee with motor power and is still portable without any cords. I am not saying that his product is bad nor useless. I want the maker to know that it is yet far from giving the emphasized “even grinding size”. May be this is only the problems of small portion of the batches, which I doubt. If it is, you should resend the quality controlled decent products to those who have these problems. If the problem is innate with all the products you have, I hope you make a better upgrade in near future. Hope your company well!

Review from Kickstarter
Lume is far from a quality final product but more of a prototype yet. I love the ideas you made and the efforts but I insist that you should make a lot of improvements before you sell this product in Amazon or other merchants. This product gives very uneven grinding sizes similar or worse than other manual classic grinders and is also very slow. Here are some of my opinions and observed facts which hopefully will contribute to the further improvement of this product. My Lume is the one which was assembled wrongly resulting in the wobbly grinder. I corrected the error according to the instruction received via Email.
However, the final corrected product is still very unsatisfactory and is far from the quality I expected.
The most important and outstanding advantage of this product which the seller emphasizes is the stable and non-wobbling center axis resulting in very even grinding size. Portability, light, cordlessness are all very good but minor advantage compared to the "even grinding size" resulting from non-wobbling grinder.
However there are so many factors with short-comings which results in unstable center axis with wobbly grinder movement. The off the center wobbly motion of the grinder which gives very uneven grinding size.
** https://youtu.be/_RzSwYfjH1I 1. The hole in the center of the axis where the motor engages is not placed at the exact center and creates unstable whirl-like movement of the grinder. Just this error alone makes totally uneven grinding size.
The hole is slightly skewed to left.
The axis moving in unbalanced angle.
** https://youtu.be/-p2_eZ6bGJ8 2. The rubber cushions which should tightly fit the plastic hole in the center is loose and shaky. The two rubber should add to the stability of the fixed central movement of the axis and prevent it from wobbly movement. However this loose movement of the cushion do bad job in holding the axis in the
center.
** https://youtu.be/ydauUPOHmew 3. The grinder should be fixed in place and not easily movable to make even grinding size. The force of the hard coffee bean with different sizes will continuously give random directional pushing force and if the grinder is easily movable and shaky, the result would be "very uneven grinding size”. However the outer grinder fixed in the body and central grinder connected to the axis is easily movable and shaky.
** https://youtu.be/LuvWGAZBXwI 4. The lower (inner) grinder is not tightly connected to the axis. There is a huge gap between the axis and the grinder and makes wobbly and shaky.
** https://youtu.be/DCPv1w4anYo 5. The coffee is grinded into uneven particles. The grinder seems to move around the center of the axis making the wobbly movement. Without coffee, the outer and inner grinder makes contact each other making annoying mechanical sound. In long run, the grinders will wear off each other due to unintended clash of the hard surfaces.

@Jerry: Our manufacturer found out ONE assemble inspector made a mistake that affected a small number of last batch grinders. One flush next to the burr was not assembled in the correct manner and this can be corrected quite easily. This is not affecting U.S backers cause it's a different batch. Thx.
