HOPii Smart Craft Beer Brewing Device

Editor's Rating
4.8?
Discovered on 2017-11-02

Enjoy craft beers from all over the world at their best tasting moments with HOPii Smart Craft Beer Brewing Device. With almost no effort, you can brew your own beer in the comfort of your home. HOPii lets you brew fresh beer by fermenting it at home using the same hops and yeast as the breweries. Just add the yeast into the bottle, put the bottle and ingredient pack into the device and press start. HOPii knows what type of beer you are making and adjusts the temperature, time and pressure accordingly. It even tells you when the entire process is complete. Additionally, HOPii recognizes when gravity is low and seals and carbonates itself so you can pour it immediately. Cleaning HOPii is a one-touch task that only requires some water and sanitizer. Finally, you can buy additional beer kits through the app to enjoy ingredients directly from the brewery.h

Forget about my previous question, should have read the comments before asking :). Really looking forward to this, very excited indeed. Hope we can build a community of "HOPii Brewers" in good old New Zealand. Maybe you should consider coming to Beervana in Wellington next year, where you could promote HOPii to thousands of enthusiastic craft beer lovers. Cheers
Markus Peter
Hi there, I also backing HOPii as I think it is a great concept with a lot of potential. Just one question, you mentioned that them Brewers mode would be unlocked when you reach the $400K stretch goal. What would happen if worst comes to worst and we do not reach that goal, will the manual mode still be a possibility?
Michael Hyland
Thanks
HOPii, Inc.
@Michael,
Thank you so much for the great idea! I am also a huge fan of brushed metal look. We will talk to our designer about it and let you know. Cheers! Team HOPii
HOPii, Inc.
@Michael,
Thank you so much! We really appreciate the compliment. Great compliments like this gives us the energy to keep moving and make this dream happen. Thank you so much again and we are so glad that you are a part of our family! The process depends on beer to beer (and drink to drink) as HOPii does everything naturally and every beer and drink has different procedures, brewing cycles and time it takes to brew. Our experience with craft beer has been around 7 days, sometimes longer and a few times shorter. What we felt is that, just like ketchup companies say, "best things come to those who wait". Experience of drinking fresh made craft beer as soon as it's done brewed right from HOPii, every single one of them, will be a memorable experience that you will remember (as is doing for us right now). We can't wait to have you experience this soon as well. Cheers! Team HOPii
Michael Hyland
Stainless steel opiton nice idea but it would hold fingerprints maths easy so this maybe worth considering brushed steel finish maybe a better opiton, just an idea but how about brushed steel as an opiton it may cost etc but within reason I’d imagine there’s other backers like me who’d be willing to pay that bit extra to get this slick finish as this is an item that is going to take proud space on the counter top so not only is it important it works well but also it looks well and doesn’t feel out of place in any home
Michael Hyland
Great customer service appreciate the responses so quick and before campaign ends. I’m delighted to be a member. I’ve thing I forgot to ask was how long is the process from start to finish to name 3 liters of top quality beer?
HOPii, Inc.
@Andy,
Thanks so much for your message! I personally also like stainless steel, but this would add a couple of hundred of dollars to the cost of the device so it may not be doable at the moment (and we won't do it unless it looks right, perfect and beautiful). We will definitely consider this for the future as it is a great idea. Cheers! Team HOPii
HOPii, Inc.
@Michael,
Thanks so much for your questions and it's definitely ok to ask them again. :)
On color options, our expert designer is looking into coming up with 3-4 color choices for our backers to choose from. These will be colors that will fit the design language and look beautiful on the current design of HOPii, manufacturable with good yields and so on (as different colors require different ways to paint and some are much more difficult than others). If we reach $400K, we will make the backer selected color exclusive only to our backers. The device does not come with preloaded recipes for DIY (though beer kits will have their recipes preloaded on their bottles), but we will be building a DIY community via our app and website where people can share each other's recipes. Yes, the Brewer's Mode is made flexible so that you can make most if not all types of beers you want (that we know of anyway, and we know a lot of beers) as well as other drinks such as Kombuchas and other drinks that are invented by you. With HOPii, possibilities are endless. On storage of the beer inside HOPii, we haven't actually tried going to terminal as we drank them very fast (beers were too good :)) and we only have limited number of units to test at the moment. However, when we tried taking it out and putting it in the fridge, we were able to drink it after a month and the people who drank it thought this was the freshest beer they've ever drunk. The preservation comes from the completely closed nature of both HOPii and our bottles and when left inside HOPii, HOPii has full control over it in its completely closed system (full temperature and pressure control, no exposures from oxygen, light and heat), thus the beer would last much longer inside HOPii than a fridge. Yes, HOPii has full temperature control capabilities, both cooling and heating. 2 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius. Kits will start at $20US and will be different from beer to beer. On shipping, right now we are 'estimating' around $10US, but we are trying to reduce this as much as we can prior to launch via negotiations with shippers and various ideas. Each beer kit will make 3L, or 6.34pints, of the best, flavorful and freshest craft beer you will drink. (freshness makes a *huge* difference in taste of a beer and with HOPii, you are drinking it as soon as it's done brewing right from the tank, it will be the freshest craft beers you will drink) Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask more questions at any time. Cheers! Team HOPii
Andy T
@Creator - polished stainless steel is a desirable "color", so please add it to the current kindergarten-palette offering when the time comes for the special edition color vote. thanks
Michael Hyland
Also once beer is made how long can it be left in hopii before it looses its value? Those hopii have temperature controls fir storing beer? The kits ye speak of in the video, I live in Ireland how much will these cost to buy abs get delivered? How many pints does Hopi store? And how many does one mix make? Sorry loads of questions coming late to the project so trying to get up to speed before the deadline.
Michael Hyland
Thanks. Last few questions I’m been lazy now, there probably already answered in comments but there’s a lot of comments:) So excluding the colour choice voted by backers if 400k is raised what are the other colour opitons? Dies brewer mode come with pre built in recipes? Will the manual mode allow one to make any type of beer they want?
HOPii, Inc.
@Michael,
Thanks so much for backing our project! What we are thinking is to have the Kickstarter backers vote for a color (we will have beautiful color choices to vote from, made available by our award winning designer who has exceptional taste in colors as you can see in our videos and photos) and when we reach above $400K, we will make this color exclusive to our backers only to make them limited edition HOPii's. As increasing number of colors would delay manufacturing and also makes logistics more time consuming and error-prone, yet we wanted to make sure that our backers get the best color that you want, this was the best method to make this happen. On the postage, when we first started our Kickstarter project, we had to put in a shipping number to start, so we had used a formula that many projects with products of our size used, which was to add $100 to US domestic shipping rates. This was done as shippers won't negotiate better prices without a proof of our number of sales (i.e. Kickstarter pledge numbers) and thus optimization of the shipping prices were not possible at the time. Now that we have these numbers, we are able to negotiate with the shippers and have been able to reduce the shipping prices for US domestic shipping by $20 so far (~30% reduction), which we have decided to give this credit back to all our backers for purchasing additional beer kits and other gears. Going back to your question, we are working on several different methods of shipping to Europe, where one of them includes shipping directly to a logistics warehouse in Europe and ship from there, which we believe would reduce the shipping significantly. These ideas would help us to determine what is the most optimized way to do shipping that is best for our backers and strategies for duty and vat. We will definitely keep you updated. Cheers! Team HOPii
Michael Hyland
So reading your last update if ye hit 400k manual mode opiton will be available as well as choice of colour correct? What are the colour opitons pre 400k target and post please? I’ve just backed today, also can you tell me if the postage includes duty and vat for Eu countries?
HOPii, Inc.
@Michael,
Thanks so much for your message. Just the price difference - we had run out of the super early birds at the time and had just announced brewer's mode, so we had created a new tier to celebrate the release of brewer's mode. The devices are the same. Cheers! Team HOPii
Michael Hyland
What’s the difference between the the brewers mode edition and the super early Hopii ?
HOPii, Inc.
@Nicholas,
Thanks so much for your message! We are also *very excited* to hear that you are looking forward to HOPii and to deliver you the amazing HOPii experience! Currently, our designer, who has an incredible taste in colors as you can see in our pictures, is looking at the *best* color options as we speak. As having too many options will delay manufacturing and cause difficulties in deliveries (supply chain issues including SKU management, etc), and yet we want you to be able to choose the color that you like, we are thinking of our designer (the expert) coming up with some extremely attractive colors that would look the best on HOPii and letting our Kickstarter backers vote for your favorite color. And, if we go over $400K in our campaign, we will make this color EXCLUSIVE ONLY FOR OUR BACKERS! At the end of the campaign, we will be sending out a survey and you will be able to vote for your favorite color at that time. No matter which color you vote for, every color will look amazing, so don't worry. :) Cheers! Team HOPii
Nicholas Lukoni
I am looking so forward to this. I can’t wait. What are some of the colours that are going to be available to choose from?
HOPii, Inc.
@Petter,
Thank you so much for being an awesome fan and joining part of the family! We are so glad that you are here. And, absolutely, in fact, we have heard the needs of our family and have already made Brewer's Mode a part of HOPii's standard feature. Everyone will get Brewer's Mode as part of HOPii, whether we pass $500K or not. Rest assured! Cheers! Team HOPii
HOPii, Inc.
@Martin,
Thanks so much and absolutely! We will make this dream happen together. Cheers! Team HOPii
Petter
Hi,
I just pledged for the Hopii. Already a fan!!
You have set the limit for adding Brewers mode to 500k. 3 days away from campaign closing it is not likely that this will be reached.
I think that Brewers mode is crucial, especially for all international backers as shipping costs and custom clearing is almost prohibitive. Please let us know if you still will add Brewers mode also ending below 500k.
Martin Bergvill
Thanks HOPii the future is bright and there will be HOPii beer
HOPii, Inc.
@Martin,
Thanks so much for your message. We actually have over 1000 HOPii's in the pledge from 365 people (many people pledged in groups) and we will continue with very active pre-sale activities until we ship. We are also getting great tractions with retail and distribution requests as well. We have also been selected into the 'recruited company' program in one of the biggest retailers in the world. Our future is looking very good. :) Cheers! Team HOPii
Martin Bergvill
Hi. I am a little bit scared. How many HOPii's will there be out there? Will we be able to buy beer kits for a long time? I live in Norway and I am sure that HOPii will not be able to have any locals here make any worth for us so I have to get the worth from you guys. Yes the future is the hardest time to say anything about. I don't want my HOPii to be out of work in short time as it will be a limited amount of beer kits for it. We are at 365 now and that is not that much..Please tell me some uplifting things here on how bright the future is :-)
HOPii, Inc.
@Gizmo,
Thank you so much for your amazing support and humbleness! Your support to make this happen means a lot to us. After your post, we have just received an email from one of our backers, who is an expert in US logistics and he has offered to help on US side shipping as well! (Thanks so much again David!). Our backers are so awesome - we probably have the best creator-backer team to make this dream happen together! Backers like you and David give us a lot of energy to continue pushing this dream to reality. Let's make this happen together! Thanks so much again! Cheers! Best Regards, Team HOPii
Gizmo
@Creator,
No thanks needed I’m just glad that I can play a very small part to help all of us Backers & yourselves move forward with our own HOPii.
Very simple less shipping costs mean more Beer kits!!, what’s not to Love about that.
Hopefully others can join in with some great ale recipes down the line to help us less knowledgeable in this area so we can all enjoy some great parties with Family & Friends.
HOPii, Inc.
@Jonathan,
Thanks so much for your message. Maybe down the line we can consider, but we won't do it unless we are able to find a way to make worts with perfection. Currently, we are finding that it's very difficult to create a device that makes great worts that yield amazing tasting beer, thus we are focusing on having the professionals make the worts and HOPii fermenting it to perfection to yield the most amazing taste. Cheers!
HOPii, Inc.
@Gizmo,
Huge thanks again for the great message and your amazing help with logistics! Your support and advising us with your expert logistics knowledge is extremely helpful and we hugely appreciate it again! Thanks to all your great help, together, we will find the best solution for all our backers to get the best shipping rates! Cheers!
HOPii, Inc.
@Gulz,
Thanks so much for your message. As Gizmo has also said, it seems very feasible to reduce the shipping prices and we are also looking at various different ideas to make this happen. As you also suggest, we are also looking at shipping directly to a logistics warehouse in Europe and distributing from there as well, which we are hoping would reduce the shipping prices significantly. We are currently talking to logistics houses such as Amazon Logistics and will be talking to a lot of companies (shipping, logistics, etc) to find the best option for our backers. We are also looking at adding all the number of devices pledged from our crowdfunding and pre-orders to negotiate a bigger discount from shipping companies as the shipping companies give big discounts for bigger number of shipments we have (i.e. more business we give them, cheaper their services become). As this number of sold devices will get bigger as we get nearer to our shipping time, we will also be doing some heavy negotiations with them at that time to reduce the shipping costs even further. The current shipping price is only an estimate, as Kickstarter required us to put in a number to start the campaign and we had to use a formula that other projects with similar sized devices were using, however, looks like there are pretty good room for improvement as Gizmo has also said. We will definitely be working very hard to get the shipping costs down as much as possible. Currently, Kickstarter does not allow us to make any modifications to our rewards tier section. Thus, even though we were able to make a significant ~30% reduction of shipping cost for US domestic shipping prices, we could not update the rewards section with this information due to this reason. Therefore, we will make sure that you will get the benefits of the shipping cost reductions once our Kickstarter campaign is done. Hope this explains. Please let us know at any time for any more questions that you may have and we will get them answered right away. Cheers!
HOPii, Inc.
@Oxydgen,
Thanks so much and that is a fantastic idea. We will investigate. Cheers!

@Hopii
Are you planning to add the possibility of creating your own wort with the Hopii?
Gizmo
@Gulz,
I’m also in the UK & have a Logistics background in Internationally shipping especially in relation to DAA via IATA Or IMDG regulations & recently I’ve been in conversations with Jong to try to help him with this as an advisor only.
Not on a business or commercial level as I’m no longer in that field but as a Backer to help us all & even though I can’t officially comment for them, this is looking highly feasible to reduce costs by a noticeable amount(I can’t obviously comment on any outcome of negotiations they have with any shipper) that has made me come onboard.
There may even be a possibility as you suggest of shipping within Europe but this would add cost to the Creators & is another option to be looked into further.
Vague as this is hopefully it will help with yours & others decision as it did mine.
Gulz
I know you are working on it already, but would be really nice if you could reduce the international shipping from $169 to something more reasonable. Let's not forget the fact that people living outside US will have to pay a customs charge on the cost of the HOPii and the shipping cost. So at the lowest level of pledge of $468 ($299 + $169 shipping), the charge I will have to pay for that is 20% of this as UK VAT, which is about $94, plus the customs clearance fee that all couriers charge which is roughly about $20, bring the total cost of the HOPii to about $582 - which is almost double the amount I pledged. If you can have reduce the shipping charge, and more importantly, if you can have them shipped from within Europe for the European backers, that would be absolutely smashing.
Oxydgen
Hello there,
Are there any stretch goals planned? like accessories for home brewing... would be so good to get something to put the wort into the bottle, or tips, or recipes :)
Cheers!!!

@Gizmo,
Thanks so much for your message and welcome to the family!
Absolutely, in fact, we just did our Facebook Live event yesterday and you can see the video from our facebook page : https://facebook.com/hopii.beer. If you scroll down a bit, you will see the video. Amazing tasting beer instead of water may be a great thing for multiplying! Will make sure not to feed you after midnight though! :) Love your name - I am also a huge fan of Gremlins! Cheers! Best Regards, Team HOPii
Gizmo
Hi Creators,
I can’t believe I’ve only just noticed this on Backerclub & glad to join the upcoming party going forward.
Is there a link to the FB Q&A please so I can see what I’ve missed?.
Also glad to be of assistance in my meagre way.
Just Don’t throw Water in my direction....
HOPii, Inc.
@Ben,
Thanks so much for your message. In the beginning, we will be starting with shipping from America but as we are getting a lot of requests for distribution rights, we may look into this more in detail once we finish our crowdfunding activities. We are looking at this from multiple angles right now, including potentially partnering with a logistics companies at each different region for cheaper distribution. We are investigating many different ways to reduce the shipping costs for beer kits and we have some good ideas on how to make this happen. We will keep you updated as the progress is made. Thanks for watching the facebook live video! Yes, we are working on a portable dispenser that will enable you to make a new batch in HOPii while using the dispenser to drink the beer. This is at the moment a bit too early to determine the price, but the great news is that development is happening as we speak and we should be able to announce it with more information soon. We will definitely let you know. I am also very excited and really looking forward to getting your HOPii in your hands soon! Will work very hard to develop the product that you will absolutely fall in love with! Cheers! Best Regards, Team HOPii

I'd like to get more beer kit to korea,
how much the cost to ship to korea?
Ben Peterson
I’m an international backer from Australia. Will I only be able to secure beer kits from America and pay whatever they cost plus international shipping or is the Hopii system and accessories going to be heavily detailed in store worldwide? I’m just worried that the beer kit cost may be too high for international backers. Also, I’m a big beer drinker and from watching your recent Facebook live Q&A you mentioned that there is work on a separate dispenser unit so that while Hoppi main system is making a new batch I’ll be able to put my pre made bottles into the dispenser. When is more information coming about this system like cost and timeframe?
Thank you and am really looking forward to the day I get my Hopii system.
HOPii, Inc.
@Anne @Martin, thanks so much for your messages and explanation. Yes, there are 2 ways to override the temperature setting. First is to provide info on your likings in the settings menu and HOPii will adjust the temperature to it. Second is, you can adjust the temperature by pressing up and down during dispense mode. On connectivity, we have decided to remove it so that we can focus our resources on making the best quality taste and keep the price of the device where it is. HOPii has 2 ways of visible notifications already, which are status leds in the front that changes color depending on the status, and also screen on the device that will tell you the status info. With this, it was better to invest in having better screens in the device, better design for fermentation for best taste, etc. Hope this explains. Please let us know for any more questions that you may have at any time. Cheers!
Martin Bergvill
@HOPii at 1.36m in the main video the cellphone says 100%. I thought this was HOPii telling us that the beer was finished and ready to drink. But I may misunderstood that. About the chilling I guess I will take a close look at the sketches of the unit to see how this is done.
Martin Bergvill
@Anne & @HOPii yes how do the HOPii actually get the finished beer down to the recommended temp and can I override the Rfid temp and set it to 4'c? I saw in one of the posted videos that you order beer kits on a app on your phone. That's okey. But I also saw that the beer was xx% finished on your phone too. So my question was does the HOPii have wifi or RJ-45 to connect it to the Internet to be able to keep my app updated?
Anne
@ Hopii,
I guess the question from Martin is more like "How does Hopii keep the temperature that I want"? I guess if there is any customization to fulfill per user need? (e.g. any temperature customization so that user can override what is from the RFID settings - if user preferred higher/lower than what the RFID is recommanded) Sorry Martin - Not sure if I interpret your question correctly, please correct if I am wrong.
HOPii, Inc.
@Martin, sorry I was not clear about my answer. What I was trying to say is that HOPii stores the beer's best drinking temperature info in the rfid on the bottle. This info in rfid is set by the brewer. HOPii gets this info and sets the temperature of the beer to this temperature when the brewing is done. Hope this answered your question - please let us know if it didnt or if you have more questions. Cheers!
Martin Bergvill
Yes I know every beer would be different. Reread my questions. You actually don't answer them
HOPii, Inc.
@Martin, great questions! The temperature information is stored in the recipe so that HOPii will keep the temperature of the beer at the temperature specified by the brewmaster. As each beer has different best tasting temperature, HOPii will use this info and store it at this temperature. Cheers!
Martin Bergvill
Several questions. How do HOPii know what temp the beer should have? It will differ from beer to beer. When you get a beer kit that was not programmed in to HOPii "at birth" how do the HOPii then know anything about that beer? I don't see a RJ-45 to hook the HOPii to the internet. Wifi? I guess it must have as you have an app on your phone to monitor things? I keep my beer in the fridge at 4C=39.2F. How does the HOPii chill the beer?
HOPii, Inc.
@Martin, thanks so much for your message. That works very well also. We are working on getting the shipping prices down in several different ways and will definitely keep our backers updated on the progress. First interim report coming very soon - stay tuned! Best regards Team HOPii
Martin Bergvill
@creator hopefully you get the shipping cost way down. (Norway) I would rather have more beer kits than a refund. I have added two kits so that makes three. So how about it beer kits instead of refund if shipping goes way down?
