Sadly the marketing info does not say whether this is cell net or satellite based, let alone whether it has areas (like most satellite systems) of the glove which are out of its reach.
Sorry if we did not make that clear enough. We have just about every cell and radio technology currently available built into the device, but not full satellite communication. Satellite communication struggles with communicating through clouds, indoors, or with any sort of cover; it also costs close to $70 a month in order to have access for full coverage. Most polling showed preference for a smaller and more affordable $3 a month option that most will not stray outside of. The majority of US state and national parks have emergency frequencies this device can use, for example, that your cell phone most likely won't have access to. Just trying our best to help. I know I personally have had phone issues on countless backpacking trips, and that alone is worth it to me. Hope my response helps!
