@King Helple
Thank you for your advice. I understand your advice. Once again, we believe that the sharing of problems and goals, as well as empathy, are necessary. As a result, we will take the challenge once again, believing that solutions to problems, and ideas, will be produced. Of course, We keep quality :)
King Heiple
Sometimes it is about how you present the challenge to the artists. I have found that if you include them in the process, they will feel an ownership of the problem and, therefore, any solution. Instead of asking them to lower their price, explain the goal and the challenge and highlight the benefits to everyone involved and let them offer suggestions on how to make things more efficient, while lowering the cost and maintaining the quality. Most artists like to be involved beyond just making a piece.
Shigeru Fukuoka
Hello, Thank you so much for your support and comment! I love art too. So,I'm also happy in being able to hear that you liked it :)
And I understund your opinion.
I should find the way to reduse the price without discount negotiation with he artisans. Probably It was possible by the planing with fine balance. Your comment and that of many others make me realize it. I am grateful to you and all backers for making me realize what is realy important thing!
King Heiple
You are walking a fine line with quality/price. These are expensive except as "art". You are definitely limiting your market with the price point. I am pushing my limit on "for the sake of art" here. I had to contemplate hard before upping my pledge from 1 to 4.
Shigeru Fukuoka
Thanks a million! I'm glad beyond words.
I respect the artisans. Asking for discounts and haggling are disrespectful to the artisans, so I never do such things.
My job is creating a happy balance between artisans and their supporters. I believe that the success (or failure) of this project shall show whether I have done my job right.
If this project doesn't succeed, I will not give up :)
Thanks to your feedback and that of many others, next time I should perform even better. Your kind comments have been a great emotional support.
Thank you very much again!!
I would have to disagree about the pricing. I'm all for quality over quantity and, from the video of how these are made, they aren't made through some giant factory process. I appreciate the artistry of the product and time it takes for them to be made. So please don't feel like they need to be cheapened. Shipping is a little expensive to the US but that's to be expected. I'm still hopeful this campaign will succeed. If it doesn't succeed, maybe some stretch goals next time would help. Good luck!

@Louis-Philippe Loncke
Thank you so much for your kind comment and support !
It was all on me for miscalculating the costs. Looking back on it now, I should have set later shipping dates, and that would have probably afforded me time to lower costs and increase production without sacrificing any quality. (Though it is too late to make any changes for the current campaign...)
if this campaign doesn't go through, then I will most certainly adjust the pricing and try again.
Thank you so much again for your good advice :)
Louis-Philippe Loncke
@Creator, I agree with Karl B. (Austria). Today you have "only" 156 backers for a really great product idea. I checked on the internet and it was decently promoted. To means it means the price is the "stopper" for this project.
Salaries and costs in Japan are higher than most of the countries where the backers are. Meaning a cup like this in Europe or the USA is very pricey. For Europe, if shipped from Japan, we'll have to add: 19 to 21% VAT on top of the cost (cups+shipping costs) + a flat fee of the border control. The only way to make it cheaper is a higher volume sent to EU and distributed from there and same for the USA I guess.
I would look at something like 3000 Yen for 1 cup/plate excluding shipping
and 2000 Yen per cup/plate for 12 units.(I personally I would take 3 colors and 4 units each)
I know this might be shocking to you but it is I think the reality outside Japan. If the project doesn't succeed, check with the cup maker, discuss, improve the process to make cups "faster" and aim for higher volume. Aim a production of 10.000 cups. If you have 2000 backers at 5 cups average (1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 cups units) that's 10.000 cups and around 20-25 million yen of budget without shipping and kickstarter fees.
You can always relaunch your project in a few weeks and see what happens.
Shigeru Fukuoka
Thank you your support so many times!
I plan so as to be able to reliably do all of the shipping within the scheduled period. We will do our best to meet the expectations of you and all backers :)
Change 1 = 1 to 4 set
Change 2 = 4 to 8 set....
I guess I pledge for what maximum I would ever plan.... fellow backers lets make it happen PS: Creator - While rooting for you, I am counting for you to finish project and deliver on time :-)

@King Heiple
Hello, Thank you sooo much for your support. And I'm also happy in being able to hear that you liked it :)
King Heiple
Just read your comment section and increased my pledge fro 1 to 4 sets. This is a very nice and creative project. It needs to succeed. Come on backers. You know you want them. Step to the plate.
Shigeru Fukuoka
@Michelle Wing
I’m so happy! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I am actually satisfied with new black ones. I'm glad you liked it!
I strive to go that extra step in order to provide you with MARUHI Cup and Saucer :)
Michelle Wing
Just wanted to say that these cups are BEAUTIFUL, and I am so hoping that the campaign is successful, because I truly, truly want to have my set of two! I first fell in love with the brilliant blue ones, but then you added those lovely black ones... I'm thrilled that Japanese artisans are now on Kickstarter. Congratulations on launching your first project!
Shigeru Fukuoka
Thank you so much for your valuable input. This is my first challenge on Kickstarter, so it's very helpful.
I will quickly carry out a survey of all the backers for the necessary quantities.
Thank you again:)
Hi All, I noticed that many backers are planning to add items after campaign successfully completed... on the other hand campaign is hardly halfway at this stage. Ideally if everyone pledge for right size (I increase my pledge) already, it would help in two way:
1) Help make sure This project doesn't get delayed due to excess quantity not calculated in advance.
2) There would be less chances that project had potential to be successful - but simply too many of backers wanted to pay extra at later stage but project never made to success :-( It would be shame to see such nice idea fails to have successful project/campaign.... I am burned by many other projects but still trying to do my best and root for this project - hoping this will be timely delivery and very good project.
Shigeru Fukuoka
Hi, Thank you for message. Yes, to add more after the campaign is successful and finished is possible and I will do a survey :)
Will there be a survey after the campaign, like Backerkit or the Kickstarter one, to adjust the number of sets ordered in case want to add more after the campaign is successful and finished?
Shigeru Fukuoka
Hello, Thank you so much for message and support!!
The price has been calculated with consideration for costs incurred for prototypes and molds, and other fees. Unfortunately, it would be very difficult to lower the price. Our estimate for the market price is ¥4,500, which would result in an at-minimum 20% discount. I have also been concerned over the high shipping costs. Shipping costs are determined by weight, and even with a discount, will be expensive. I am so sorry I could not comply with your wish.
In regards to the chocolate - I believe it will depend on the type and size of the chocolate - according to my tests, there should be no problem up to about 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the portion of the chocolate that is closest to the back of the saucer will start to get slightly soft. I should Described on FAQ soon. Thank you for your kind advice :)
Hello, first I will say the idea and the product is very nice and a very good idea. But the price is a little to expensive... I mean 16400 yen (120 €uro) is a lot of money for a product like this, with shipping for 4 cups. I have also a question is it possible to but chocolate in the secret spot and than the hot cup ☕ comes over. Is the chocolate melt away or it is safe? I think when you reduce the prices, you will get more backers.
For me is a good price between 1300 and 2000 yen! But now more than 4000 yen (with shipping) is to much! Grettings max from Austria, Vienna
Shigeru Fukuoka
Yes. You can get 2 different colors.
You can choose a color per set :)
Thanks !
For the 8 unit, is it possible to get 2 different colors (4 of each color)?
Shigeru Fukuoka
I appreciate your tip!
Once I asked Kickstarter Help center.
And they tried to replicate this issue on our end, but were unable to do so. Maybe They used via kickstarter website. I confirm again.
Thank you so mach :)
just a tip... Kickstarter mobile app didn't allow me to pledge successfully and gave error "amount should be less than 10000", this problem solved once I submitted pledge via kickstarter website.
Shigeru Fukuoka
Don't apologize! It was my fault. Thank you for your kind comments : )
@Fukuaka I am sorry if I was confusing. I meant to say that we own items of Maruasa Porcelain. Sorry if this was confusing. ごめんなさい
Shigeru Fukuoka
Thank you so much !!
I'm so happy to hear that : )
I love the video of how these are made. Very cool :)

@Carlos Chou
Hello. Yes I’m adding 2plan, 6 unit and 8 unit now.
Because I got some request.
When I finish adding, I will send you a message .
Carlos Chou
hello any plan in doing 6 units and 8 units ?
Shigeru Fukuoka
Thank you for your comment and support.
It seems that the item you own is not my work probably. Because MARUHI Cup & Saucer is my first item. But I am very happy to get your support. Thank you so much!
my wife and I own some of your items at our home in Osaka, thank you for making this available on Kickstarter so we can have in the USA as well.
Shigeru Fukuoka
@Clemens Uittenbosch
I confirmed your change.Thank you for your cooperation!
Clemens Uittenbosch
Changed my pledge amount to 24600 as requested for a 6 unit combination.
Shigeru Fukuoka
@Fredrik Karl Österlin
I apologize for this problem. That is still being confirmed.
Could you please give us some time?
When solve this problem, I will send you a message immediately.
Fredrik Karl Österlin
Hello, for me it says error as well... "Pledge amount should be 10000 Yen or less"... Is it possible to fix?
Shigeru Fukuoka
I'm so glad. I apologize for this late reply.
Shigeru Fukuoka
@Clemens Uittenbosch
The total amount of 6 units including the shipping is ¥24600.
¥13600(4 units) + ¥7200(2 units) + ¥3800(6unit ship/sea cost ) = ¥24600
There's currently no option to pledge for 6, so combine 4 unit with 2 unit.
1 Unit and 2 unit using SAL. 3 unit and over use ship/sea. So 6 unit pledge
is not 6 times the 1 unit pledge.
