Glow Battle Interactive Light-Up Sword Game

Editor's Rating
4.9?
Discovered on 2018-03-12

Get ready to take game night to all new levels with the Glow Battle Interactive Light-Up Sword Game. Fun for kids as well as adults, this game keeps you moving even after the sun goes down. Glow Battle is as fun as it is simple. Players carry a soft light-up sword and wear a light-up bracelet to show how many lives are left. The aim of the game is to hit the other players with your sword (avoiding the head, of course). If you get hit, you head to the regeneration zone. But be careful! If you get hit again, you’re out. The team with the last person standing wins it all. Whether it’s occupying the neighborhood kids after dark or settling an argument at home, Glow Battle is fun for everyone and promotes teamwork. Best of all, it keeps you moving and off your devices.

@Megan, Thank you for following up. I sent out and posted an update to the page, located in the "Updates" section. If your question remains unanswered, please send me a message and we'll get it sorted out!

According to the update, backers are supposed to receive the product by June 24. I didn’t see a tracking number....has anyone received their stuff?

Hello Judd, I purchased this for a July 4th party. Is there anyway to get mine sooner? I could not find out how to message you directly on the Kickstarter app.

@Rachel - I've messaged you directly about this with a few solution options. Again, everything is moving along in accordance with the previous update. Thank you!

Hi Judd, I have a similar situation as others. I purchased this set as a gift to all my nieces and nephews who I'll be visiting in Mid July. I had hoped to bring to play while we will be camping. Is there anyway to be on the early shipments? Worst case, I could have the shipping address changed to their address, so if I can't bring it, it'll go directly to them. - Rachel

@Megan - everything is moving along in accordance with the previous update. Manufacturing should wrap up next week. Once that happens, we'll have more specific updates regarding shipping times. For a more detailed update, please check out the previous update, luck #13: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1885949718/glow-battle-a-light-up-sword-game-for-active-fun/posts/2182233. Hi Judd. I ordered with the hopes of having the kit for a vacation with my nieces and nephews in mid-July. If there is anything you can do to get my order to me before July 13th, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

@Crickett - you've actually already completed the survey on April 3rd, so you're good to go! Thank you for verifying :-)
@Everyone else - please drop me a message if you're having any issues with the surveys.

I have received no survey. Kickstarter page states that no survey has been sent. You've written here in the comments that you're using a different survey company, which requires a current credit card number. Well, Kickstarter does not require you to keep a credit card on file. I have none listed because I try to keep to a minimum the number of places that have my CC#. So no, I have not received any survey.

@Geist Lord - Please take another look at the rewards. Literally every single reward tier that involves shipping says, "Shipping will be charged at the end of the campaign." We really weren't trying to slip anything past anyone. That's why we listed it on the page and on every reward level that included shipping. If you'd like to discuss the matter further, please feel free to send me a direct message. It's important to me that you're glad you backed our campaign!

OK. So S&H stated but nearly at the end of you Campaign page. Still fell it should be in a more obvious location.
Geist Lord
Review from Kickstarter
You should include in your Campaign that shipping and handling is NOT included and an estimate as to how much that cost will be. Not just the statement, "SHIPS TO Anywhere in the world." I'm sure I am not he only one who dislikes being hit with additional fees that were not well stated in your initial pricing.
Judd King
Review from Kickstarter
@Geist Lord - Thank you for your comment for reaching out! Kickstarter handles the initial payment requests, so you might be able to find it that way. (The most common issue is that the credit card on file needs to be updated). I'll also have our survey company, Crowdox, reach out to you to see if there's a more direct/easy way of resolving everything... One way or another, we'll get it worked out!

@Elizabeth - the surveys will close on 4/17. I'll be writing more of a full update on that later today. I'm pretty excited about some of the extras we'll be offering -- like sound activated LED fang masks :-)

How long will the surveys be open? I know it's best to fill them out right away, but if they'll be open still on the 13th, I'll be able to upgrade & add more things to my pledge, which is what I was hoping to do. 😅

@Anna - Yes, I think one delivery makes complete sense. I'm not sure what you mean by "change a list of a complect" but we will indeed offer multiple extra glow items that you can order along with your kit. Feel free to reply here or message me directly with further questions.

Hello. I am Anna and I am from Austria. Ordered a package for 150.And I would be very happy to get even more information before delivery starts (one delivery to EU with maximum devices or games would be better) and to change a list of a complect and make it with more opportunities for the game.

@Manuel - I agree with you completely. The way that customs, handling fees and VAT all add up can be insane! We've looked into multiple fulfillment services and companies to find a workaround. Ultimately, we only found one company who would pay the duty upfront but they would only do it for large orders to Europe with 300+ backers, which we didn't quite hit. We also wanted to offer the games as cheaply as we possibly could. This means that if we were to pay out of pocket for shipping, we actually would lose money on every order we ship! Our long term work around is selling on Amazon from the UK (which we currently offer for our Capture the Flag REDUX game). For now, the best thing to do would be to either reduce your pledge to $1 so you stay on our mailing list (and we'll notify you when our fulfillment services develop more fully abroad) or consider ordering more units and extras to increase the value of what you're paying for shipping. We're going to be offering sets of LED "Battle Caps," glow gloves, glow pendants, LED fang masks and even our other games... I hope this helps explain our situation as well as provide an appealing option or two!

As a side note (dorfy, KS doesn t let me comment on a comment) other campaigners offered a flat fee to avoid customs. I'd be happy to pay for it to avoid the absurd handling fee
Manuel
Review from Kickstarter
what are the arrangments with EU customs?
will the shipping be paid apart or will be specified also in the item value? (where I live, no customs if value INCLUDING SHIPPING is lower that 22 euro (about 30USD)
Why am I asking? In EU , you get a base handling fee (15-20 EURO which is a LOT) from customs PLUS VAT (no big deal there). I recently ordered a 61$ item and had to pay !! about 40 USD omly for customs.
Not to demotivate anyone but if you include the shipping in the item value (which makes the 25$ perk go over 22 euro) I'll have to cancel my pledge as I d end up paying the double or more.
Thanks in advance for clarifying

@Fiona - thank you for checking out our other games! And I have some good news for you -- two parts, actually: 1.) yes, we will be offering Capture the Flag REDUX as an add-on for all of our US and European backers, and 2.) We actually do have it on Amazon in the UK. Here's the link for it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00XK9C4H0. Thank you for your interest!!

Hello there, I am interested in this but I cant find how these devices detects hits if they detect them at all. I am under the impresion that is the player the one that should tell when it has been hitted Can someone anwser that?
Judd King
Review from Kickstarter
@Denis - thank you for the comment! If we could produce sensors that would still allow us to keep the game reasonably priced, we would definitely do. I also think that your idea for integrating the game with Capture the Flag is an excellent one. We already offer a glow-in-the-dark game that's specialized for this purpose. It's called Capture the Flag REDUX. That said, we'll definitely look at a way to integrate your idea into Glow Battle. I think there's a way to do it. Either way, thank you for the suggestions!

If you add two objects that could detect hits from players (one per team), you can made additional game modes.
For example Capture The Flag. Teams place two objects (falgs) in they'r own zones and players from opposite team has to reach object and hit it with the sword. As soon as player hits the object he took the flag. His bracelet can start to blink in some specail way. Now he has to reach hit the object of his own team to score the point for capturing the Flag.

@blunder1983 -
The bracelets are used to keep track of hits; they don't actually register them. Every player begins the game with their bracelet in "solid" mode. After they are hit the first time, they must return to their team's "Regeneration Station" (aka home base), then change their bracelets to strobe mode. If they get hit again, they're out of the game for the round. The hits themselves are recognized using the same method that most classic outdoor games use: the honesty method. Although it doesn't hurt, players KNOW when they've been hit. Sometimes a moderator is helpful, but for the most part we've found that people embrace the spirit of the game and are honest about keeping track of hits.
For the Gladiator dueling, the station lights are markers for the starting point and where you go after getting hit. We'll release a full set of instructions along with the game or you can message me directly for them.
Thank you for your comments and questions!

How does the band track a hit? I'm not sure how the swords and the bands talk to each other? Also if I buy the duel, how do you recharge at the single station?

@Minh - You and Tina are on the same wavelength! (Perhaps it has something to do with being on the same continent, haha). We're still working through the details but it IS our plan to offer lower rates for bulk purchases. When you submit/revise your pledge, select the kit type that you'd like multiple copies of and then back the campaign at the rate of what the price would be for multiple copies (so if you want two $48 kits, back it at $96). All pledges that don't match our reward levels exactly will be flagged in our system when the surveys go out. If there are any issues where you're not seeing the type of discount you need, you can still adjust your survey or remove your pledge; we offer a 100% return guarantee to all the backers.

@Tina - we're still finalizing our shipping options. Right now it's looking like it costs will be between $12-24 AUD; our most promising fulfillment option is located in Hong Kong, which we're hoping would enable us to offer shipping at the lower end of that spectrum. Please let us know if you have any other questions -- and thank you for your interest!

If I wanted to increase my order from the $48 to a larger set what would be the postage to Australia? Currently it is quoted at $20 USD. Will this increase if I say get two of the $48 packs? Just want to confirm since postage cost often deters me from backing projects when it becomes too pricey especially after conversion rates. Thanks

Do you have any idea what the cost will be to ship to australia please? I would like to get the set of 10 but i may have to drop it to the smaller set if the shipping will be too high

@Dave - Overall, the Weapons of Light hold up well, but durability is definitely a factor in how we're approaching our manufacturing. One of the neat parts of our game kit is that the rules can be customized based. So far, given our recent stretch goal's success, we'll be including two totally different modes of gameplay but people will likely create their own, too. In face, a large part of why Glow Battle exists at all is because a customer revamped our Capture the Flag REDUX product to be used with handmade foam weapons! Keep your eyes out for a future stretch goal where we'll unveil further details... Lastly, YES, we do ship to Canada! Thank you for the comments :-)

This is what can make or break a campaign - good communication. I love how you guys are quick to respond with positive feed back and great answers! I am definitely looking forward to watching this campaign grow. Sad to hear some of the patters will fade, but it does sound that we could possible replace them with our own down the line through stickers of the sorts. The hits makes since. I would have loved to seen an option where you could set how many hits you get prior to it starting to strobe. This way you could recommend 2 hits, but for people who want to have an all our bash fest could set a high number and see how dies first. Wow that game looks great! Have you thought about making rules to incorporate both games into one? Lastly will this be Canada friendly shipping?
Judd King
Review from Kickstarter
@Dave - these are great notes and questions! I'll try to run through them:
-The exact type of battery will be finalized when we begin manufacturing. They're currently the AG3 type
-The swords hold up well given what they're used for! Some of the laminated patters will start to slip after a few hours of play but the functionality remains the same throughout. Depending on our level of funding, we're hoping to upgrade to a model with multiple pieces of foam which will increase firmness and resiliency further
-For the number of hits, we playtested a version that had four modes: solid, fast strobe, slow strobe, and off. We found that the games sometimes lost momentum when there were so many rounds of hits. The game is at its best when it's fast paced.
-For other games, we actually already offer a game called Capture the Flag REDUX. It's a glow-in-dark version of the classic game where players capture a glowing Orb, have lit jails, territories are divided with specialty lights, etc. You can learn more at www.StarluxGames.com
-The shields are an awesome add-on idea! We need to look into them further. Thank you for all the questions and notes, Dave!

Review from Kickstarter
I have backed this for 1 dollar at the moment and as the campaign goes on I might increase my pledge. The concept of this game is amazing! Nothing better than a sword battle royal.
I do have a couple of concerns about it though;
1. It mentions replaceable batteries, which kind?
2. It also says 6-10hrs of light, seems like it will drain batteries like crazy. Any thought on rechargeable swords?
3. How durable are the swords?
4. Any thought of allowing multiple hits before having to recharge? I feel in smaller teams 1 hit would be frustrating to keep running back to recharge. Maybe a 5 lvl indicator on the bracelets? The potential this system has is amazing. There is lots of room for expansions and add-ons. Ever thought of Shields, or Capture the flag?

To order multiple sets, please select the reward you want but back the project for the amount it would cost for the number of rewards you'd like. For instance, if you'd like three Epic Battle Sets, select the $48 reward and then contribute $144. For two Double Weapon kits, select this as a reward and then contribute $158... I wish there were a less confusing way to do this! Thank you for the comment, X Walker!
