My watch was fine for about 3 weeks...how I cannot even get it to synch and display the correct time. It's basically useless in it's current state. Very disappointing.

I wish they would just open source the whole thing. Otherwise I don't think I'll renew the battery once it dies...

Here's what i currently have: https://tiny.cc/swings (short link so my site is not permanently tied to my account on KS; at some point the short link will expire, not sure when). Note that it will only work on Android + Chrome (since it needs web bluetooth APIs). It's not a real app, but mostly useful for documenting some of the protocol. In practice right now, it's only useful for checking the battery level/steps and sending commands (you could actually control a decent amount of watch settings via the debug console, since the code is implemented, just not hooked up to the UI). My watch is about a minute or 2 off now, so at the current rate, i'll see if i can add something in July (when it will be 3 minutes off; it loses about a minute a month) to set the time. It's kind of sad, since as you said, the actual hardware was pretty good, and it looks nice. Just completely mismanaged on the software/product/financial side. My comments about it being an intentional scam were probably a bit harsh, since they seem to have given some people refunds when they had no reason to do so. Once this watch dies, I'm looking more toward getting a real watch without any of these smart features and combining it with a cheap fitness band for the steps/heartrate (the xiaomi mi bands are dirt cheap and fairly nice; but like most products outside the western markets, their software sucks), but the only ones I like are upper $XXX to $XXXX, and I'm not *that* into watches. Just having one nice watch that lasts for years or decades with a separate thing for the technology aspect that you can replace every year with something better makes sense in general (e.g. buying a nice but cheap "dumb" tv along with a $35 chromecast instead of an equivalent "smart" TV that costs double with terrible software). I also have considered Fossil, but I really just don't feel like constantly buying watches that rely on software anymore (pebble->dead, swings->dead). Fitbits have way better software, but their hardware is generally ugly, bulky, and overpriced. Apple watches are overpriced and i'd probably need to buy one every 2 years due to forced obsolescence. Fully smart watches -> charge every 1 to 3 days -> no go. stein: even then, no guarantee that past performance is indicative of future performance. I think the real thing is: only back things that are still useful even if the company disappears and that ship in their final state. Boardgame? totally fine. Anything with a mobile app or software needed to use it: stay away. I backed the pebble as my first and only campaign on KS before this, and that turned out well....but even that eventually turned bad when fitbit acquired them. Also backed stuff in IGG where the company had a previous successful campaign, and tldr: they screwed over all the backers. As someone I know from work told me "just buy finished products". The expected rate of return for those is higher than backing crowdfunding stuff that has a XX% chance of failing to ship at all, and a mid to high XX% chance of being abandoned down the line, but is commonly only X% to low XX% cheaper than buying the finished product by a large company.

Returned mine. Got a refund. With a nice email...... Hi Mark, Thanks for patiently waiting.

Mark, we've completed the refund process. Attached file is our proof of payment.

Moving forward, please be informed that our watch supplier went bankrupt, so we can't afford any exchange or refund more. With that said, our company will be bankrupt soon.

My watch worked fine to begin with but after a couple of weeks Bluetooth/compass/steps strated to progressively become more buggy. Now it's no longer "smart" as it's only the time functions that work but I would still need the app to set the time.
I'm too done with KS, at least for tech projects. I would recommend prospect backers to only back backers with precious successful projects...

Review from Kickstarter
@Alexander Yeah, that's probably what happened here... Really a shame, because otherwise the design of the watch was really great... Why I say that: I ordered 2 watches (one white, one dark so I can switch design as a compromise for not having real smartwatch with hundreds of cool looking faces), one of them broke in 2 weeks, the one I liked better by the way, they refunded me and just recently I gave up waiting for them to make version 2 available and started to look at market for a new... Looked at Fossil, Skagen, etc, all the mature companies, so I have a good sense now of what is available and how they work...
Esthetics is of course subjective but to my taste even Fossil's huge lineup didn't offer as nice watch faces as these
Functionality: 1)they did a good job cramming music mode and their several buttons, stopwatch and other stuff all available within the 3 buttons by having them enter the modes and use the other buttons in context... Other watches offer same or more functionality but one button=one command at a time... This limits their functionality and you have to use your phone to change what buttons do and it's not ideal (or in case of Fossil dedicate one button to switch 'profiles" and within that the command of the other 2 buttons, again limiting usefulness) Also, in case of Fossil the hand that shows what vibrated the watch is going back to step % so if you miss the vibration you won't have a reminder on the watch showing you missed something... Still, Fossil is the best available for what I'm looking for so probably will settle with them. Especially that my 2nd watch (that had died and resurrected months ago) died again yesterday... I left it at home for a week while I was on vacation, Bluetooth off to the save battery, when I returned it seems to have been annoyed because for 3 days it stopped and disconnected again and again max an hour after calibrating it, then died entirely yesterday.... Didn't try reset button under the hood or changing batteries yet, also miracle happened once already, but as of now it's game over for me... In case I could get it back to work, I would like to ask you to share what you have achieved so far, I of course understand that you don't want to invest more energy in it if for you it already works as you need it. Thanks in advance :)

Stein/Peter: that was probably me. I do have a web app using Chrome's Bluetooth APIs working to communicate with the watch and have many of the real-only or trivial functions implemented (steps, alarms, do not disturb, camera mode, music control). Main things not working are:
- firmware updates (doesn't really matter since there won't be any new updates)
- setting the time (once my watch gets out of sync, i'll probably add this so i don't have to use their terrible app. my watch works fine for telling time which is the main point)
- sleep info (too lazy to figure out the format of the data, but it's super inaccurate anyway so i don't care) Would be straightforward to make a simple but non-shitty android app that has the basic functionality, but I have a full time job and it's just not worth it for me. I'm basically done with KickStarter and IGG at this point. It's all Shenzhen based scams using sleazy front companies in the US at this point. This company was the typically mismanaged Shenzhen/Bangladore/outsourcing situation. Hiring engineers who freelance/contract out per-job (typically because they couldn't get a full-time job) and thus take a ton of shortcuts to make a shiny looking app that is buggy and unreliable. The secret to sustainable engineering is to hire 1 good engineer who knows what they're doing instead of 4 shitty or mediocre ones. If their resume is stuffed with a bunch of things they're "good at" that's how you know they're probably bad. The product managers were similarly clueless. They made a watch/campaign targeted toward the western market, and their initial plan on kickstarter seemed reasonable. Then they made 2 large mistakes: they designed an app for the asian market and filled with a bunch of unnecessary features like sleep tracking (meaning the shitty engineers took even more shortcuts) which resulted in more bugs. They really should have stuck with 3 features to start: telling time, notifications, and music control. Could have cut their engineering team in 3, and hopefully had at least double the runway. Instead, they "went bankrupt" in less than a year. Pretty sure this was the typical Shenzhen project where they develop something, ship it, and unless it becomes a major success immediately, they cut their losses and move onto their next project. Look out for their next big thing in the fall.

@Peter Varhaug, I've been thinking the same. I've downloaded the various firmware versions and the Android app APK. I've done a preliminary decompiling of the APK and have most of the Java source.

Review from Kickstarter
@stein, Folks, Someone here was raising the idea to make the code open-source so even if we can't really modify the firmware we could improve the app... I personally can't develop but love to see a few minor improvements in the app eg adding more apps for the notification (I miss Viber and Gmail most, probably we could make a poll if this would become a possibility).... If someone could add this I would be perfectly happy with the watch (until it breaks....) What do you guys think?

Guys, the party is over! I got this e-mail from Swings customer service three days ago... Hi XXX, Sorry to hear that you're still having an issue with your watch. XXX, the issue you experience is also what other backers have. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do more to fix the issue and we will be bankrupt soon. YYYY

Hi.
I have been having different problems with my watch since the first week. In the beginning, the watch would just somehow stop at night time. I'd wake up in the morning, and have to set my watch all over again every day. That was for 3 whole weeks. Somehow, it worked fine all of last week, then just completely stopped 2 days ago. I tried pushing all the buttons, tried to turn it off and on. Still nothing. The last time it worked, the battery was at 95%. Please let me know what you can do to help. Thank you

Quick update from me. I now have my watch up and working again. A change of battery somehow did get it going again, despite the fact it seemed to be full on battery life prior to the firmware update. Seems suspicious. Anyway it is up and running so I would recommend buying the tool to unscrew the back (can buy from amazon) and a battery to see if you can get yours going again too if you experience a similar issue to mine.

Review from Kickstarter
Reason I’m saying this is that it really doesn’t make sense to just attribute it to battery fault. It’s just a simple (but lazy and unprofessional) reply. It could be the firmware, the hardware etc. @Swings, please make some effort to look into the root problems before shooting back such a reply. This is not the first time one of ur backers have report incidences of watches dying off. Some even have sudden revival again a few days later (without changing battery etc).

@jack Loong, Shouldn’t our batteries operate for at least 2 years before the battery dies? Unless these watches were aldy produced years before and were just sitting in the warehouse for a year, our batteries should not die off right?

@jack. Sorry to hear that mate. My watch is working ok at the moment so that’s why I focussed on the app in my comment. I hope you’re able to get yours fixed. A bit of a ridiculous comment by Swings support considering you already changed the battery! The positive thing though is that they’re responding. Write back and point out the error on their part (that you have already replaced the battery) and suggest a replacement unit?

Review from Kickstarter
@Richard Figgins. Don’t expect any help from kickstarter mate. They are USELESS when it comes to disputes. When we had the long period of non response from Swings, I put in a complaint to KS and they just refer you back to the creator and give the excuse that they take no responsibility for the taking of funds or delivery on promises made by the creators. There is an issue with another watch campaign- the Martian G2 that has turned out worse than this one (in my opinion). No response to backers, most people haven’t got their watches (I’m one of them), the ones that have report crashes, Less than 24hr battery life, watches falling apart after a couple of weeks of use... one guy went to the creators head office and found it empty! At least with Swings, backers got their watches and for the most part the hardware is ok, they just need to fix the app and possibly the firmware needs updating. I know the experience has been very unpleasant for some Swings backers too though!

I am so frustrated, this was supposed to be the watch of all watch’s but now it is just a piece of metal not even good for recycling.
I have tried emailing the numerous faults and problems to Swings and have not had even an acknowledgement.
First there was the battery issue
Then the syncing issue with the bottom dial
Then the repeated disconnection issue
And now the data recording issue, it doesn’t record sleep data and now I find that it has dump d the last weeks steps data.
I feel so ripped off and would expect Kickstarter to intervene as it was to them we paid our money?!!

For some reason after the update, when I try to calibrate, the little dial I can only set using the s1 and s2 buttons is the day / mode dial, not the compass/walk dial... and thus it keeps things not properly aligned as before - this update/firmware seems to have made things worse... Anyone know how you adjust the proper subdial? I've tried a bunch of combos with no luck

@Jack Loong please let me know if they respond with something useful Glad to hear it's not just me. I emailed them and to be fair they got back to me, but unfortunately not with anything that helped me. But I will post their response here in case it helps someone else. This is really frustrating as I do really like this watch when it works. Email from SWINGS support: Richard, if you can't connect to your phone with the watch after the app/firmware updated, you can forget the swings in system (Bluetooth) then link the watch in the app (not on the phone) again. Please make sure the watch is not paired in your device's settings. If you pair the watch, it will make the connection unreliable and cause it to constantly disconnect. For Android Phone: Please grant location permission to swings APP. For IOS phone: please "forget" swings in system Bluetooth setting if it is connected For Iphone8/Iphone8plus/Iphone X: Please follow this link:

My watch has stopped connecting to my phone by bluetooth. I then made the mistake of tryign to switch the watch off (hodling S0 for 6 seconds)... and on again to see if that would help. I can't work out how to switch it back on.... the lights flash but the hands aren't moving. Bluetooth still not working. Any advice on:
- how do I switch it on?
- when I hold S0 for three seconds it doesn't appear to switch bluetooth on or off. In fact it does nothing. I wonder if this is a consequence of the firmware update.

@Jack did you press reset button next to the battery? Other than that, try pushing all buttons short long longer... And if no luck, try again in a day or two... Hi Folks, Updates from me:
- my returned watch still didn't arrive to them (apparently stuck at US customs since 25th Feb) but I was refunded the money
- I asked for a replacement, but they told me that they are about to improve the watch so easiest is to refund me and I will be given opportunity to buy a new in around a month
- they confirmed that original watches will also get them same improvements as the new generation via app and firmware update About recent updates: I updated the app (after making a security copy of the previous version :) ), but didn't find a time to upgrade the firmware (or didn't dare, having said that my other watch broke during firmware update)... So reading curiously what others say

Roemsch, the watch does synchronise automatically. It will do this at midnight. The catch is that the watch must be connected to the phone in order to do this. I find that if I take my watch off and leave it sitting on the bench it disconnects. Therefore, it doesn't synchronise.
However, my watch will synchronise when I am working night shift.

It would be nice if the watch synchronizes the time automatically with the app as long as bluetooth is on or with a button in the app.
I hope this is possible. Adjusting time over calibrate is a real pain in the ass!

Review from Kickstarter
I have now update both the app and the firmware.
The app is now version 1.4.2. I am only seeing two differences with the updated app. The app is no longer recognised as malware. Also, the alarm is now silent. The watch vibrates but the phone alarm doesn't sound. The sleep monitor still doesn't work at all. As before the step function works but understates the steps in comparison to Samsung Health. Notifications work but it would be great to have these expanded to include Gmail. The music control works with Spotify except for the skip function.
The firmware is now 0.0.26. Updating the firmware took about 15 minutes on a 3G connection. I am seeing no difference in the performance with the update. My battery is still showing 100% after about 8 weeks.
There is still some polishing to bring this product up to standard. It is good to see some communication from the developers. With continual and renewed interest we should see some progress.
