Thanks everyone! It's really helped to read so many kind and constructive comments - who knew the internet could be such a positive place! The insight from seasoned backers has been really useful either in regards to working out new potential approaches for the Pencilest or just to help our self esteem! We will look into reworking the project and hopefully can figure out a way to redevelop and re-pitch it in the future, we well as entirely new concepts we have going on in the background!
Like others, I'm hoping with better timing and a little more creative based outreach to the press, a new more focused publicity campaign will allow for an enthusiastic response and a successful project. It's a great design with a quality approach, components and design.
Take heart from the response here. I'm in on the second round.
Make sure you message us all.

A shame, I think it looked pretty cool. I hope you try again and it gets funded in the future.
Gia Ferguson
I'm sorry! I was looking forward to it too! Hang in there and don't give up!

Great design and I would have thought all the followers from previous projects would have been on board. Recently backed another art type project that was unable to get the momentum. EDC normally do well and agree that the item was price fair.
Here's some advice.
Contact the guys at REFYNE also on Kickstarter, they had a somewhat similar experience. While their product was a clearer EDC yours is much more a EDAC - Every Day Art Carry.
There's nothing like a fat art pencil to convey humanity in a drawn line. I think you missed your market. Anyone who values "holding the pencil" in a creative moment will understand the value of always having an "art capable" tool for that idea that needs recording, illustrating or demonstrating in the moment. Any designer, animator or architect who still value that most human of previsualization device would love this if they had heard about it. I suggest you think hard about that those audiences and refocus your outreach. I was buying for just that use. And I was buying two to give one ceremoniously to my son who works on alternate reality experiences as the always necessary pencil all creatives always need.
I still want this so you'll just have to take a deep breath and target people who love the drawn line.
It's a great story. It can get press. Reframe and seize the day...

So disappointed that this didn't work out. I still haven't found an EDC pencil I like. I was looking forward to not just carrying a pen. Best of luck on future endeavors!

Stiff upper lip brother. I had a volley with someone on, which did cover, about the pencil. I happen to like mechanical pencils a lot and thought that this was genius and was very excited to back it. Stay the course, things may change and perhaps you might think of a way to improve on an already great designed pencil. If you do, I'll back you up again. We, all that backed you, have your six. Semper Fidelis brother, RAH!

I really love the design of this pencil. Do you have a backup plan if (and I really hope this doesn't happen) the goal in not meet. Would you still make at a higher price? Or try again?
@Brian - thank you! That's awesome; the mechanism is the click-click Pentel type, which is the best one we think.
Brian Cutler
Great EDC, Is the mechanism like a pentel click-click or like the manual drafting pencil that open a claw to hold the lead. Just curious - got to have one either way. Ordered a pair of the skull spoons too - got a friend into metal who would appreciate them.
@Dane - We are grateful forever! We still get emails every so often asking if the cups will come back but they were only for Kickstarter backers, so we refuse! Thanks so much for your niceness Dane, we really appreciate it.
I backed your first KS campaign and everyone who sees my set of 6 Sugar Skull spoons & cups is instantly wanting them. I direct them to your website but have to sadly inform them that the Sugar Skull cups were a KS exclusive never to be see again...too bad. But, you guys are back with the coolest mechanical pencil I've ever seen & I'm in for two :-)
@O Guy - I like your thinking! integrated sharpener was on our wishlist - it was to be recessed into the top of the cap part - but the intricate shape needed turned out to be impossible to add, we've found the separate sharpeners pretty cool to work with though, but thanks for the confirmation we're on the right lines!
O Guy
Nice concept. An integrated sharpener will be great, more convinent to bring out and use, but looking at the design, hard to add this feature.
@Jeremy Aiello - Yep! :) any standard 2.0mm refills will work - they'll just have to be snapped in half to fit inside (for ref; the skull Drawing Paul did took about 2.5 leads, so they will last plenty!).
Jeremy Aiello
For clarification, the refills for this awesome Kickstarter are just normal and can be bought at an office supply store? I wasn't sure if it was unique and had to be ordered through you for future use.

Having seen your work before (I've got the CMYK cards and the skull spoon) I knew anything you did would be worth a look so I made the effort. However, it turns out people are lazy on the internet (who knew?) and spoonfeeding the link often helps... ;o)
@Professor Stephen Candy - we're still getting to grips with this so-called 'social media' :$ Thank you so much for your support though! and your suggestion! Next time we will add a link to the thing!
Professor Stephen Candy
This does look cool! Tracked you down with a manual search of Kickstarter after your tweet and your instagram posts both neglected to mention the actual link to the project! Hope the project goes brilliantly. :o)
@Carlo Piu - Thanks Carlo that's awesome! This is our highest goal! We keep them as low as possible we promise - it's just down to the production costs of the pencils - because each one is CNC'd they take much longer than casting - but give a much nicer finish, we went for quality over low-quality so we're hoping that's what people prefer :)
Carlo Piu
I really hope to see this project funded! I shared it on FB, hope it helps. The goal is quite high though
