Transform your smartphone into a measuring tool with the Arrim ONE Professional AR Measuring Device. @brian lake, As far as I understand, with iPin or iPin Pro you take a picture, and then draw and drag the line on the picture to get the dimensions. It uses the laser to measure the distance between your phone and the object, so they can do the calculation based on theory of pinhole camera model. We made a prototype like this last year, and we found there were two major issues. First, it's not accurate. Because the object you want to measure is 3D, and it only takes one distance data. That means you need to get all the dimensions based on the same distance. Second, you use your fingers to draw and drag the line, and it gets the accuracy of your finger tip size. Users have to move the point over and over again to the right spot. Arrim ONE works in a totally different way. It is real time measurement. Using the laser beam to point the target (super accurate). And it can measure the angle, circle, divide a line and draw leveling reference lines etc.

Is there a way to test if this will work on my phone? I have sideloaded ARcore 1.3 to my oneplus one, but it looks like i cant get apps like the atom visulizer that uses ARcore to work. You guys have a testapp of some sort?

@FusisCaesar, as it is not Google official information yet, we can't 100% sure. However, if OnePlus 5t supports ARCore 1.3, it will be compatible with Arrim ONE.

Hey all!
I discovered an article about ARCore update 1.3
A lot of extra phones are supported it seems. @Creations Foundry, we are working with tooling manufacturer now, and we will make a video when we are back to office later this week. Arrim ONE's position and orientation is very important for accuracy. The phone's port now is the only place can get it right.

@Yann K, there will be a French version. Just not sure if we can deliver it in Sept.. Actually only a few texts in the software, most of the menu/buttons are simple/clear icons.

Hi Creator, sorry, I may not have been clearer. What I mean is measure a bigger object and comparing with a measuring tape.
Was also wondering if it's possible to have a prism or mirror of some sort, so that instead of having the Arrim One perpendicular to the phone, it can be mounted at the back of the phone, instead of using the micro usb port to support the Arrim One. Thanks.

Hi Creator, thanks for the video demo of the accuracy. Would it be possible to have the unit in mm instead of 0.1m? Is it possible to do a measurement with bigger objects so that we can have a better feel of the accuracy in real life situations? I believe most of the backers will be using the Arrim One to measure much bigger dimensions. Thanks.

@QSHAVE Does Arrim ONE support the use of a bluetooth selfie remote device -- like HISY (www.hisypix.com) -- to trigger actions instead of poking the screen button with a finger? Such a remote trigger is a great help to photography because it greatly reduces handheld phone shaking at the moment a photo is made. I would expect this to help improve the accuracy of handheld Arrim ONE measurements, too. It could also assist taking measurements remotely when the Arrim ONE is mounted on a tripod.

@Creations Foundry, the straight line measurement precision means measuring a straight line in Arrim ONE's way, not like the normal laser range finder. We will do a video, and post it in our next update (Monday). Yes, it can be used like a normal laser measuring device.

Hi Creator, you mentioned that the accuracy is +/-1.5mm based on straight line measurement within 20 meters in an indoor environment. This is base on when we use it like a normal laser measuring device, as in we measure from where the measuring device is and point at an object a distance away? What about if we are on one side of the table for example, and want to measure the dimension of the table top, what kind of accuracy can we expect to get?
Can you do a video of measuring a 3D object such as a table using the Arrim One, and measuring with a measuring tape, so that we can have an idea of how accurate is the measurement?
Can this be used like a normal laser measuring device?

1. The leveling line is alway vertical to the gravity direction, And the line stays the same orientation/place no matter how you tip/move the phone. It is a "live view".
2. There is no projection on the wall. It is "live view"on the phone.
3. A tripod will be helpful in this scenario. We will discuss about the tripod internally. Sounds like a very interesting idea.

@QSHAVE. I have 3 questions about the use case for leveling and multi-section division. First, the context: In the videos on the campaign page and Update #3, it appears that once the computations are generated in the AR view and the generated marking lines become visible on the screen, those visible lines do not react to the minor changes in phone orientation. In other words, it appears that once the horizontal level is achieved, tipping the phone slightly does not mess up the generated line. It also appears that a "live view" is still in operation even though the marking lines on the screen are still visible and set. 1. Could you confirm that a "live view" is maintained following computation and that visible leveling marks are maintained following their computation despite possible changes to the level orientation of the phone? 2. Could you confirm that to make use of the visible leveling and multi-section (for example, to hang pictures), there is no projection of the markings on the wall itself and that one must continue to use the Arrim ONE "live view" on the phone? 3. When actually hanging pictures, as in the campaign video, wouldn't it be advisable to have the phone mounted on, say, a tripod to provide a steady reference in the live view while actually attaching the pictures to a wall? I saw another commenter enquiring about a universal mount (I presume for a tripod)... such a mount would obviate the necessity for a separate tripod mount to be purchased for the phone. Thank you, once again, for your answers. This really looks like a great AR offering.

Hello, my phone is Samsung A8+ with a supcase, which is rugged designed, with dust covers, and at least 3 mm offsetted to the desired "physical connecting point" usb type-c port. Would like to know: 1.will your design fit this configuration? 2.can you make the physical connection exchangeable between usb micro, usb type-c, and iphone, for my family or friends that are not using the same device as me? 3.manual correction available? Since you referred the physical connection will induce the measuring error somewhat, why not make it more free to physical dimension? Maybe a customized, home-made rack-mount? 4.is it possible to provide an universal mount as a stretch goal? 5.possibly stretch goal or upgrade option of a longer ranger, like 60, 80, 100, or even 200 and above? 6.larger battery capacity option? Observed many TOF crowd funding projects and found yours is most promising and versatile. Since I am a backer now, I would like to provide anything I can in order to get a better product in my hand: I have years of experience in mechanical design, especially in molded consumer products. @David E thanks for your great suggestions! We also want to support as many phones as possible. Software calibration could be the solution, we will definitely work on it. Bluetooth is backward compatible. When bluetooth 5.0 comes, Arrim ONE can still work with phone without problems. As we only transfer command/measuring data, the speed is not be an issue. Laser module and battery are more isolated, and we don't anticipate the updates. If Arrim ONE has bugs or some hardware problems, we will replace with a new one. The connector to the phone could be an issue when new iOS and Android phones come with a new type of charging connector. If that's the case, we will provide adapter. We take environment issue seriously. That's why we choose aluminum housing, li-ion battery over AAA. To make battery replaceable, we need to add more parts, such as cover, screws and connector. But we will think about it. Floor plan is a very practical function, and we already have a concept design for it. Just need some time to get it right. We haven't thought about functions related to CAD/3D printing yet, if you have any particular user case, please share with us, and we can discuss about it.
