QromaScan – A New, Smarter Way to Scan Photos

Editor's Rating
4.8?
Discovered on 2015-05-22

See the world’s first voice-controlled scanner that organizes your photos as it scans. Tell us what’s in your photo, and we’ll tag it. The cameras inside our iPhones can produce very high quality images, but as anyone that has ever tried to take a picture of a picture can tell you, the results aren’t always perfect. As hard as you try to get your phone at just the right height and angle, there’s always some glare or blurriness that can ruin the shot. Getting it to crop correctly is also nearly impossible. The Lightbox eliminates all of these problems by providing the most ideal environment for photo scanning.

2018......still waiting on the Android app.
Tony Knight
Review from Kickstarter
@Wilson We send you two emails last year because your pledge (along with all the backers from Australia) did not contain the postage. We never heard from you. Contact us and we can make arrangements.

@Patrick I figured out what happened. You were sent three emails last September to complete your survey so we could get your shipping address. The survey was not completed so your reward was not sent. Everyone that completed the survey received their reward last September. When your survey was completed in October of 2016, the fulfillment house that shipped out all the units had already closed up shop since everyone already got their rewards. Send us an email and we can send you one manually.

The creator Tony Knight never sent me my pledged item despite advertising it as 'Ships anywhere'. My advice would be to be very wary of this creator.

I contributed $35 to fund this in Sept 2015 and have not received the CromaScan. Has anyone received the device?

Hi. I'm waiting patiently (I hope!) for the Android app. I suggest that you take the Android information from Update 31 and place it on the various spots that you post things - Facebook and the Support Forum, for example. I'd feel less left out! Thanks.

I hate to bug you, Tony, but how is the Android app coming along? Do you have an ETA for its release date? By the by, my two QromaScans arrived yesterday. YAY!!

Hi everyone-- I posted a more details in the email you should have received with your tracking number, but the short answer is that we are waiting to get approved by Apple. It is taking longer than average due to the release of iOS 9 and the malware attack. Stay tuned for another email from me when everything is posted.

Tony-thanks for the update. I have one of those labelers that I use for name tags at conferences. It works great, but the software is very finicky. Not surprised you had Macompatability issues. I've actually put "Qroma Scan" dates in my calendar to start scanning home photos. I'm a dork, but a happy dork! Can't wait!

Absolutely the best updating KS product ever. You should offer to consult with other projects on how to stay in touch with backers.

The tracking app does not seem to work for me. It still shows the ship to be off the coast of Japan. I was looking forward to tracking it. Looking forward to receiving the QromaScan as soon as possible. I have a ton of Photos I've been trying to get onto disks.

Tony. Wasn't sure how to send you a message directly. So, It would be great if you can delay my shipment. I will not be around until the last week of September if you can delay the delivery until midseptembe or so. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. I'm excited to start scanning old pics as soon as i get back.

Hello Fady -- As it stands today, we are anticipating shipping to backers either the very end of august, or the first week of September, assuming things go smoothly with customs. You should receive an email with a tracking number when we ship. If you are worried about getting a package during this time, send me a direct message, and I can delay your shipment, if you would like.

Hi tony really excited and looking forward for this. Quick question on when do we expect us shipping to happen. I have a series of trips planned towards the end of August and early September and I want to know if I need to worry about the delivery and make arrangements or not. Thank you.

@Shiri I love the enthusiasm! Have you been reading the weekly updates I post every Friday? Click on link that says 'Updates" and you will get the most up to date information, but I will give you a special condensed update. We just finished manufacturing and we are in the process of moving the goods to the US. We expect to ship to all backers by the third or fourth week in August. Thanks for your support!

Hey tony, I'm waiting and waiting and waiting, and still didn't get your awesome scanner.
Can you please help me with that? :(

@Thomas -- There are a couple of big issues with the Android version, and we have not been able to spend enough time to on. Some of the tools we have on the iOS side don't exist on Android.
Thomas Murray
Review from Kickstarter
Do you have any wild guess as when we might see the android app? 3 months, 6 months,12 months? Apple is evil!! LOL
Tony Knight
Review from Kickstarter
@Brian -- Scanning negatives and slides requires a different type of scanning. The light must be backlit and the focal length is much shorter. QromaScan would not be the right tool for that in it's current form, but we are looking at something that might attach directly to your iPhone to do that... @Jeff No new news, but when there are Android development, I will post them to the weekly update.
Brian Healey

Tony might there be a possibility of scanning slides and/or negatives in a future version?

Hell Fady, Thank you for supporting QromaScan. No, you are not required to add metadata to every picture, but we make it very easy to do so. If you have a bunch of pictures for the same time and place, you only have to say it once, and multiple photos can get these tags. If you just want to scan, and not tag at all, we can do that do. We have a special mode called AutoScan, where you just slide the photo into the box and we recognize and scan it automatically. You don't even have to touch the phone or say anything. It's really fast. We convert all the names in your contacts into phonemes, regardless of which language they are in. Phonemes are use to phonetically break down words into recognizable text. This process is not dependent on the names being in the 5 languages supported by the second voice recognition engine, which is used to tag dates and locations. Finally, the app should work fine on multiple phones. Thanks again,
Tony
