Discovered on 2016-04-04

With Slash 3D printer, UNIZ Technology aims to revolutionize the traditional desktop 3D printer market by launching the first high-performance consumer LCD-SLA 3D printer. SLASH allows large solid objects to be printed at an incredible 1,000 cc/hr speed, WQXGA (2560×1600) 75 μm resolution, and customizable Z resolution profile. In fact, it is considered to be one of the fastest desktop 3D printers ever created as defined by the industrial standard for printing speed. SLASH is equipped with a WQXGA (2560 x 1600, 339 ppi, 75 µm x-y axis) ultra-high resolution IPS LCD screen, and a specially engineered anti-backlash screw (10 µm z-axis), for delivering professional results at an affordable price. Most other 3D printers can slice only with uniform Z resolution. SLASH allows the user to select which portions of the model to be printed in higher or lower resolution, providing the best solution to balance print quality and speed. SLASH uses a specially engineered polymer vat featuring passive peeling and 1,000 hr (300,000 layers) vat life, which is 10- to 100-times more durable than PDMS-based vats. The specially designed resin cartridges will automatically refill the resin tank during the printing process. In addition to a conventional USB connection, SLASH printers can be connected wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet, allowing direct download and print from the online ecosystem.

This would be a great printer if it actually existed as a production unit. Uniz took over half a million dollars from Kickstarter backers in April 2016, is currently 7 months late on delivering printers, and as of 2 months ago they have quit communicating with their backers. Total rip off.

I received some stretch goals yesterday - a build platform and a resin tank - but only half of what I should have gotten (I backed two printers and should have received 2x of everything). I hope the others are on their way also, but I'm glad to at least have received something at long last.

Regards Kalty Vazquez .....yeah me too. Worst yet I put an order through as I got sick of waiting. Ordered on Uniz website and purposefully ordered items listed as in stock and guess what nothing....have emailed as to where goods are and they refuse to reply.
Guess they are using my payment to help fund other projects like they did with my 405nm LED Module anyone remember that scam?

@Juan Morales I'm going to guess that 70lb is the dimensional weight (which the shipping cost is based upon) and the 40lb is the actual weight.

Hi all, I was an early bird for the first Slash at $1199 it should be here by next week! Can someone help me understand what the difference's are for the new Uniz campaign? Just quickly it looks like we can get something a little better then the original for less? I guess that's ok considering Uniz have learned a lot along the way. Original Slash backers also had some coupon that we could trade in our original Slash. How does that compare to the newest model offerings and upgrades in the new campaign? Is there a chart that quickly references all the details of all the printers including, coupons, upgrade options, prices, trade in, ect? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Got my printer finally! I have connected my computer to the Slash, but when try set up the internet connection, it show "Connected", but actually not so i failed to login for activation. I have restart the Slash and it still the same. I tried direct USB connection, and i manage to show logo mean the printer is connected. What to do next? need to recalibrate the VAT and print tray? How to do? I can't find proper instruction for the calibration.

@Bjorn - agreed on all points. I was hesitant, but I went ahead and backed the new campaign for the Slash+ swap of both of my printers. My reasoning was that a.) I'm basically happy with the printer's performance in spite of a few warts, b.) they actually did deliver, albeit quite late, c.) I want the best performance and the most refined hardware I can get, and the UPD developments seem promising and appealing, and d.) the Uniz team does appear to be making a concerted effort at being responsive to people's questions and suggestions. It is hard not to be suspicious of their motives, and I think it's right to harbor some skepticism after what has happened. They must earn our trust back, and walking that road will be rockier and more painful for them than if they had taken the path of never having lost it in the first place. As I've written here before, my own experiences have given me a lot of empathy for the product creation process and how painful it can be. It still bothers me that Uniz doesn't respond to people here from the original campaign, and I'm not saying it is in any way justified, but I can at least understand how they *might* be feeling. Sometimes, if you feel like you've disappointed someone, it can be hard to feel like you can really attain forgiveness or make things right again, and oft times in that situation it is easier to mentally tie off and jettison the whole unsavory experience. A fresh campaign may feel like a rebirth, a chance to make things right and leave old mistakes behind. Perhaps something like this is what is going on with the new campaign. I don't know anyone at Uniz and don't claim to have any special insight into what they might be thinking and feeling; I'm admittedly just projecting my own experiences into this situation in an effort to understand and explain. If Uniz fades away again after the conclusion of a second successful campaign, that will be extremely disappointing and will exceed the patience and forgiveness capacity of most people, including my own. Fingers crossed that they're genuine and that their current level of responsiveness is indicative of what we can expect in the future.

@Josh Heiner I'm baffled by how fast people forget just because the Uniz team is on their toes right now expecting this to change back to happily inventing new machines as soon as the campaign ends instead of honouring the backers. That said I have yet to decide if it is worth the extra $500 to get a new SLASH+ UDP in half a year or whenever they become available (maybe when Uniz needs to deliver because they wants to do another Kickstarter? ;)

@digitalli - mine was red too. I just made sure to inspect it thoroughly and, upon seeing nothing was obviously broken, I tried it out and found it worked great. I think the red shockwatch might help you build a more solid case against the shipper if there was damage and you filed a claim, but that's about it.

I would like a write something about Uniz today.
Finaly I haven't the Slash because I did had no news for long time. A few weeks ago I received an email where they ask me to pay a shipping process. I was angry because I tried to reach them many time before but without success. So, I asked about a refund and few days after I get the money on my account. I would like to say, Uniz had some kind of problem of communication, whitch is important of course, but they are a good guys. Best regards and thank you.

@梁骏飞 I am aware of that. Shipping logistics depends in where it is going to to be send. But the thing is the same to everyone to what concern to the package. In the shipping slip must be the weight and the size of the package. If they are sending the same product to everybody (1 UNIZ Slash printer) it must be the same to everyone. The package must have this same features no matter where it is going to be send.

@Nate and many others - I hate to be cynical, but go take a look at the new Uniz campaign here on Kickstarter. Suddenly, when there's new capital to be raised, behold! A veritable cornucopia of responses materializes from the Creator. I think Uniz has responded more to their new campaign in the past 48 hours than they have here, to their original backers, over the last year and a half. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they're turning over a new leaf of accessibility and transparency - and I genuinely hope that is the case - but given the blitzkrieg of response activity on display in new campaign, one has to wonder why the collective multitude of emails and questions here continue to be unworthy of their time. It's like you have to buy in again to get any attention. If their hope is that many repeat customers will help fund their new campaign, you'd think they'd be a bit more motivated to ensure their original backers are taken care of.

Uniz, when are you going to stop ignoring your customers amd start fulfilling your orders om the website. How many FTC complaints do you need to get your act together. The fact you are isolating your customer's and starting a new campaign only for users on facebook to sell more printers is bad business practices. How do you expect people to even use these printers if you wont ship orders for resin. You provide no support to anyone. We know you are here, as you pick and choose people to respond to. If you have the time to start a new kickstarter then you have time to fulfill web shipments.

Considering it's about the furthest from San Diego that you can get, and I didn't pay much less than that to Oregon, the charges sound about right, if not low, to me. It's a pretty big box...

I finally found some time to fire up one of my printers, and the experience was a mixed bag. On the downside, the WiFi setup is a mess (as others have noted) and I never did get it to work completely. Like a lot of IoT-type devices these days, you first connect to its WiFi in AP mode, which worked fine, and then supply the credentials of your WiFi network. That part never worked for me; no SSIDs were ever displayed and the webpage was a jumbled, dysfunctional mess. Next to disappoint was the lack of the promised Z-axis leadscrew "limit ring" (see update 26). I don't know if they plan to ship these out with the stretch goal rewards, but it would be nice to know, and I certainly hope these will be forthcoming. The resin pump is agonizingly slow to do its work and quite noisy to boot - I didn't time it because I left to go grab a bite when I saw the glacial rate of progress, but I'd say it took at least a half an hour to fill the vat to a usable level. I don't know what the resin level sensor is supposed to accomplish or even if it is operational - I kind of assumed that my commanded fill operation would automatically terminate based on sensor feedback, but I finally stopped it manually as it had filled more than was necessary, and there was no indication in the software that it was ever going to stop on its own. The overall fit and finish of the printer are pretty good, and it's obvious a lot of design and engineering went into this thing, but the clamshell housing doesn't snap together fully in the region of my resin bottle, and trying to force it closed is fruitless because it immediately pops apart again. Lastly, watching the first print work didn't inspire confidence in that I observed quite a bit of peel flexing in the entire mechanical structure of the printer. Fortunately I didn't hear any awful grinding noises like a few people have reported, but it was a bit nerve wracking to watch the whole thing flex at the peel stage. The flexing is definitely more noticeable on layers that have more surface area, so I do worry about future prints when I use a lot more of the build plate area. On the upside, I'm happy to report that my first print came out looking great! I printed a rook and used all of the default settings. I didn't even bother to level the print platform. The print wasn't absolutely perfect - there were some small surface anomalies that might be the "waves" mentioned in update 26 - but it was easily the best print I've ever done out of the many printers I own or have owned. In fact I'd never even attempt a model like this with an FDM printer because I know the result would be crap. In spite of the other frustrations and disappointments mentioned above, which I hope can be ameliorated and refined with time, I do give the print quality the most weight and by that criteria the printer is a success in my book. Here are a couple of observations that might save others some grief and head scratching. 1.) Once you start a print from the software, the printer will just sit there and do nothing until you "confirm" that you really want the job to start by pressing the button on the front (the one surrounded by the LED ring). I intuitively tried to press this and thought it was nonfunctional at first because there was no mechanical click, but I soon realized it's a touch-sensitive type. 2.) At least as far as the software is concerned, my printer is a Slash+. Upon USB connection to a computer, the device identifies itself as a Slash+, and if you try to connect to the printer with the plain vanilla software it will warn you (with a poorly-worded dialogue box) that it won't work with a Slash+. I uninstalled that initial version and installed the Slash+ software, then everything worked fine. I commend Uniz for at least giving us this aspect of the Slash+ (the ability to process much larger files), though after all the criticism directed at them I don't know why they weren't more forthcoming about this. Seems like it could have helped tempers to simmer down a bit.

Hi Wee Chan, I got Uniz to ship to a shipping consolidation service company in China, and have that company ship the printer over to Singapore, cost me about a hundred plus SGD. That maybe an avenue you want to consider.
