Would not recommend. The band is uncomfortable on my ears. The only time I really rest is when the thing slips and is no longer properly placed. My average deep sleep is 49 mins per ‘sleep’ after multiple ‘sleeps’. I simply can’t rest with this pressure on my ears. AND, I just discovered that any purchases made via crowdfunding (e.g., indiegogo) aren’t really considered purchases after all and therefore will not be refunded.

I have bought the Sleep Shepherd Blue for it’s hoped for ability to let you sleep better, not for the information the app gives. Well, it doesn’t work at all for me. Getting to sleep always has been easy for me. My problem is that I almost always wake up during the night and then am wide awake for one to three hours. I think that the ideas behind the Sleepshepherd Blue are nonsense. It work great for a few months but then the battery life started to decrease now it only last 6 hours if I’m lucky. The company will not even return my emails. Such a shame why couldn’t a good company with some common sense have made this

I love my hat personally. I use it daily and find it helps to see what my sleep is like the next day. My only qualm is that I don't know how to improve it. I have never gotten a sleep score above the 60s range and "deep" sleep ranges from 50-1.5 hours each night. This sounds awful. But the truth is what does this mean? Is it average? is it good? I don't know really. But I do use it daily and like it. I think it helps me get better sleep overall.

I never received my unit. They said it shipped and delivery confirmation but I never got it. I was told by the company to open an investigation which I did but never heard back from anyone. So disappointed and out all that money. This was my first time donating on Kickstarter. Really really disappointed.

Dear Michael, I've received my unit, thanks for speedy delivery. However, I'm unable to charge my unit. I've used a universal adapter to no avail as well. The orange light comes on and then quickly turns off in a few minutes. I've tried charging it on different plugs at home and on my laptop as well. I'm looking forward to your advice, thank you. I've backed for a sleep shepherd hat, got a replacement because it was broken. Now it is broken again after just a couple of weeks (previously it worked a couple of months). Wrote to Michael several messages but didn't received an answer yet. Does anyone else have similar problems and is ignored by Michael? Just wondering because previously the service was just fine.

@Josh Tew, The Sleep Shepherd Blue will need to be fully charged before each use. That should typically take a a couple hours to do so. You will want to leave the Sleep Shepherd Blue connected to the charger until the orange LED turns off. Hey, I have a problem with the battery, does anyone has the same problem? I received my SSB by June 25, and start using it from the first day. I've fully charged it before the first day use, and I thought the battery should have last for few days, I didn't charge it on the second day, then the battery drained half-way on my second day sleep. From the 2nd day onward, I charge my SSB every morning, and this became my daily routine, it works for me perfectly, and I'm happy with the the result SSB brings to me, I could sleep on the time I wish to sleep, and wake up on the right time I wanted to wake up. Until 4 days ago, my SSB battery drained half-way, it happens continuously in 4 days. From what I see in the app, my SSB only works for 4.8 hours and it's gone. I've email support@sleepshephrd.com 2 days ago, and still waiting for the reply. I hope there's a way to change the battery because I really need SSB to help my sleep.

@Jonas , I am sorry to hear that you are having a hard time keeping the device in place. The band does need to be tight enough to keep it in place but it should never be uncomfortable. We have had some people have better success at keeping the band in place when they use a satin or silk pillow case. Those materials are less likely to cause the friction that makes the band move. I completely concur with what Emily is saying.
If one straps it on really tight, then it stays all night, but ain't comfortable.
If not, I've tried waking up with it half off my face, I've tried waking up with it entirely off my face, it does not stay when you move your head on the pillow. That is actually the primary reason for why I'm not currently using it :(

Thank you for you comment. The customs form is classified as a gift equal in value to 40 dollars. We can not do anything about the added fees that one may come across at customs. Our product does not have a VAT tax (value added tax) so that is added once it arrives at its destination. As for the email, we received your email inquiring about shipment and we responded that same day.

We hope that you are enjoying your use of the Sleep Shepherd. To address the problem you are having with the band slipping off, we just want to make sure your band is in the proper position. It should sit low on your forehead with your eyebrows almost or partially covered. This allows the band to be adjusted tighter and more comfortably as well as allows the sensors to get the contact that they need. With the band low on your forehead, it should cover just about the whole thing. With that happening, there should not be much rubbing or moving so it will not cause wrinkling, rest assured. As for the light, it can be rather bright. You are more than welcome to cover the lights with a piece of electrical tape to cover them and it will not harm the device. @Chelsea Thank you for your feedback on the Sleep Shepherd Blue. Our band works by measuring brain waves. When you wake in the middle of the night, your brain waves will not necessarily match the level of waves which indicated that you are awake. Because of that, the device will read those times as light/restless sleep rather than awake because your brain waves have not dramatically changed.

My Sleep Shepherd is being held in customs and I need an invoice. I have e-mailed and messaged over and over and got zero reply. The device is being sent back soon, my money's gone and my sleep is poor. I am beyond disappointed. I was willing to give it a try even if it didn't work (I read for some people it doesn't). But this is just bullshit. When someone backs your project in good faith, the least you can do is answer a simple e-mail. It's been over two weeks since my first e-mail.

It does seem there are a lot of people totally underwhelmed with this project. I am not completely in accord with all the negative comments. I have been using this product for a little over two weeks now and find that the major positive reaction that I can report is that it is weaning me off my reliance on pills to sleep. I used to wake up about four hours into my sleep and had to take a pill to get back to sleep again. That has been corrected in my case.
On the negative side, at least in my case, the app is a total loss, both on my iPad and my iPhone. It will not register the proper time I go to sleep or the time I wake up. Consequently all the data is totally useless. I complained about this to customer support and must admit the interchange was very fast and very attentive. Unfortunately it did nothing to solve the problem. In the end I was told that there is indeed a problem with the app. I keep waiting for an update on that but nothing seems to be happening. So I just use it without the app and monitor it myself.
I am not really unhappy with the device but quite frankly feel that for the amount of money I paid, it could be better if the app actually worked.

Also guys, the "guide you back to sleep" through binaural beats should really be taken with a grain of salt, if the body wants to wake up, it will wake up, no beat is going to prevent that.
It's more like a vague hint to the brain whispering "go back to sleep", than a direct neural order commanding one back to sleep.

I have now been using it for 5 nights and I have to say that I'm quite satisfied with this product. Compared to what was promised in the campaign:
1. Motion detection - check, also seems quite precise, close to what I expected it would be.
2. Biofeedback Sleep Optimization - That's difficult to tell as I'm kinda sleeping while that's supposed to work, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
3. Integrated EEG Sensors - Check, is measuring around 90% of my sleep time depending on the fit of the band.
4. EEG-Based R.E.M. Detection - Check, as obviously seen in the app, which btw. is a great app.
5. Sleep Orientation Recognition - Check, results was quite close to what I predicted.
6. EEG-Based Smart Alarm - Check, seems to work in my case with varying sleep hours and times, which disables the inner clock in this regard. Also regarding the app:
The "Sleep quality" it calculates also matches the rating I've been giving (more or less).
This app does a great job displaying information about my sleep, what I think it could benefit further from is advice, based on the last week or 14 days, on how to improve the device.
The "Sleep as Android" application does regression models and stuff like that to find patterns, and I would love that from this application, or even just integration from Shepherd Blue to the "Sleep as Android" app. To sum up:
Does it help me sleep better? Probably not, but it does help me fall asleep with the binaural beats which I actually quite enjoy (I usually prefer complete and utter silence when falling asleep), it also helps me track the sleep, and wake me up without the alarm, which then goes off when I'm almost awake.
So I do believe the device does what the majority of the campaign promised and while it can always work better, I do believe this is one of the quality products I've seen/heard that made it through Kickstarter.

I've tried the device now for 2 nights and it has not worked at all in taking me into sleep or changing my level of consciousness. All I get is the same tone. Questions:
1. Should the tones change at all based on the feedback provided by the sensor? I wore my hat twice for 2 x 1 hour periods and the tones were identical all the way through.
2. Can you give any time estimate to how long you would need to wear the hat to begin the process of taking you into sleep? mins, hours?
3. You explain about the "hammock effect". At which stage does the wearer feel this effect? Is the hammock rocking feeling required before getting into a sleepy state wearing the hat?

I'm sorry to say I'm quite disappointed in this product. What made me buy was when it was mentioned that the sensor senses your brain waking up, and plays the beats to guide you back to deep sleep. I frequently wake up in the middle of the night so this sounded great to me, and is what made me become a backer. In reality, it makes this situation much, much worse. The beats do not kick in as I'm waking up, the beats do not kick in until I have already woken up. And without this device, I would usually wake in the middle of the night, and just roll over and unless something else attracted my attention I would quickly fall asleep again. With the sleep shepherd, the beats themselves suddenly kicking in as I roll over attract my attention, it starts my brain into awareness and conscious thought, suddenly I'm thinking about the device, the app, the purchase, it wakes my mind up. Not only that, I find the beats themselves a distraction when trying to nod off to begin with, and the device hurts my ear on whatever side I'm lying on. I like the EEG tracking, it does seem to track accurately, and the app data is quite decent. But overall, this device did not solve my sleep, it hinders it. I won't be pursuing a refund. I believe you have made a good faith effort to deliver what was promised, I just feel that you failed, and that the device was greatly overpriced as well as oversold. What I plan to do is modify the device to get rid of the binaural beats part of it and just use it as an EEG sleep tracker, then track how activities in my daily life affect my sleep.
