Thomas Clipper – Shaving Kit With a Historic Touch

Three centuries of history goes behind the making of the Thomas Clipper – the new-age shaving kit that comes with a vintage spark. The set consists of hand turned wooden bowls, brilliantly bristled brushes and natural soap to give you the shave you desire. The shaving bowl and brush handle has been hand turned from a single English horse chestnut tree that was planted way back in 1710 and came down naturally last winter. You’ll find a set of GPS co-ordinates at the bottom of the bowl which helps you analyze the exact position where the tree grew. This isn’t a shaving kit born of the ordinary. It’s been handcrafted with a legendary story going in the backdrop. All set to make your mornings better with a good shave?

Really glad to hear it Duncan, thanks!
Duncan Blackwell
Just ordered yet another travel razor. Ideal Christmas present for the father in law.
Matt Brown
Thanks Edwin, obviously this would be great to see on a shaving forum - it would be amazing if you could spread the word. Thanks for the great review anyway, it's fantastic to hear you're so happy with our new gear. Regarding the new survey and the new products... you'll have to wait and see...
Please find below the URL link to my humble take on the TC Mark One and the beautiful horse chestnut accessoiries, soap/oil that came with it.… I haven't been in the position to get this published on shaving forum, instead I'm posting it over here without any pics (plenty of them on the TC website). Feel free to link to it or copy the text. Here's to the next Thomas Clipper Kickstarter project *beerhug* BTW, please share the outcome of that survey on future products you sent us ;) Cheers,
Duncan Blackwell
Wow, now that's service for you. Razors and oil arrived 15 minutes ago. Excellent packaging and some extra blades as well :) I think James Bond is missing out on his gadgets, I think the travel razor is a must have for any self respecting secret agent.
Matt Brown
Thanks for the kind words Duncan, order received on the website! Thanks for letting us know about your son too, hope he enjoys the Travel Razor. And for anyone who's running low on any of our fantastic shave gear do pop along to to stock up - we ship all over the world. All the best, Matt
Duncan Blackwell
I ran out of my cheapo shaving oil at long last and have started with the TC oil. Much better and actually sits on my skin better, as the cheap stuff just got absorbed like a sponge drinking water. Smells great when I'm shaving. So great in fact, that I've just ordered another bottle and 2 travel razors. 1 for my next holiday and 1 for my son who is in the Army.
PM sent!
Matt Brown
Hi all, Well, it's amazing to read all these positive comments from all over the world - thank you all, especially Jonathan, Johnny, David, Daan, Tadayuki, Mark, J, John and Buster - we've not had time to get back to you yet (launching new site was somewhat time consuming!) but really value your comments. Consider this a group 'thank you' for your comments, fantastic to hear that you're enjoying your new shaves. It was also amazing to see so many responses to the survey - almost all of you had something to say in the 'any other notes?' section, and we're taking the time to go through every answer. Some of you have had some top notch ideas, which we're certainly going to look into (and certainly not going to share just yet - we've got to retain some element of surprise chaps!). As you'll already know (but for the benefit of those of you who've not checked your emails), we're now selling the Heritage and Complete shaving sets online featuring the shave brush and a very similar bowl design, as well as the same soap, on our website at - we're limiting production to 305 units (that's how many years it's been since the tree was planted). They’re already selling well, so if you want to grab another set we’d suggest popping along. Righto, well that's all for now - obviously keep sharing your comments; we'd love to hear more from you. But above all, thank you so much for the support, for the positive words here (and on individual emails, private messages, Tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram tags…). We'll be back in touch with an update when we've had time to properly consider what's next. But for now, thank you again for backing. Happy shaving. Matt + Antonio

Received the package yesterday and used today, I really really like this. Thanks for this great job.
(From Taiwan.)
Received my bowl/soap/brush in this afternoon's mail, and wouldn't you just know it I had already shaved this morning! Poor timing on my part... I will say this much for now - the packaging and presentation are excellent in both quality and appearance. Very high class. The aroma of the soap is mild and quite unique to me since most of my current products contain either sandalwood or menthol to some degree. The bowl is extremely well crafted, and I like the extra touch of the map coordinates printed on the bottom. The only thing I could wish for would be a matching cover - maybe an idea for an additional offering on your site? The brush is of the same high quality and I like the feel of the bristles. I know that they are synthetic, but they rank right up there with some of the better badger brushes I have seen and used. My only personal issue is that the diameter of the brush handle is just slightly larger than my stand, as is the diameter at the base of the bristles. Therefore I cannot hang it up on my current stand and it looks like I will have to get a new stand to fit it. I will have to wait and see how well the soap lathers up and how it maintains, but I don't think there will be any issues. For those interested, I've been using shaving soap for years (a more pedestrian brand) and each puck seems to last forever - much more than a year but then again I only shave about twice a week and I'm in no rush. Very well done everyone, and thank-you from a repeat backer! Cheers - Jonathan

Received mine today and very impressed! Great craftsmanship and nice delivery! Glad to have been part of this and cheers from San Antonio Texas USA.
The handle of the Mark One… men… no words…, very impressive, I am astonished by the shaving result!
Further to the brush, bowl and soap, you simply see the craft and passion which has been putted into the products, Guys and team.. thanks!
Tadayuki Hoshino
Received my brush, bowl and soap. Excellent! Thanks from Japan.

Received mine yesterday in Indianapolis, IN (USA). Looks BOOtiful! I'd like to say it works as well as it looks, but, as it will be a gift, I don't want to hand out used presents. Thanks bunches!
J Law
Received my bowl, soap, and brush kit about three days ago! Waited two days before I decided to try the kit out and it is simple yet smooth and comfortable experience! Thank you Thomas Clipper!
John Ellis
Received my shave kit today (USA). Closest shave I've had in a long time. The brush is definitely the softest I have owned. I am really impressed with the quality of the product. Great job Thomas Clipper team.
Was just leaving the door to go to work and lo and behold a courier was dropping off some of your goodies. Whipped them out and had a quick shave. They are fantastic. The bowl and brush are quite marvellous, they feel and look fantastic. Top notch craftsmanship.
There is one guy in Australia heading out to work feeling great.
Matt Brown
@Asbjørn I've just sent a note to the whole team with your note copied and pasted: means a lot to us. Say hi to Norway for us & happy shaving!
Asbjørn Aursjø
I just picked up my brush and bowls tonight, and I am absolutely STUNNED by their beauty. I love using the Mark K razor from your first kickstarter, and I am really looking forwards to using the brush and bowl. A big thank you from Norway!
Matt Brown
@all Thanks so much for your positive feedback chaps - brilliant weekend reading. @Edwin Thanks for your suggestions - one or two of them might make their way onto the survey... @Adrian Always rather exciting when our historic gear makes it all the way around the world - thanks for backing. @John Brilliant to hear you're happy - thanks for getting in touch. @Bas & @David Enjoy your clean shaven weekend, let us know how you get on.

Bas Wienen
Received mine today. The bowl soap and brush. It looks good, even the box it came in. Can't wait to use is.
Just had an excellent shave with my new TC gear. Write up to follow next week. Have a great weekend!
John H. Halpern, M.D.
Yay! I just got my soap & bowl. The bowl is beautiful and much more elegant in person and also remarkably light: it exudes quality. The soap is incredible, too, and I am just so annoyed with myself that I didn't make the time to adjust my pledge in time so that I could have ordered more soaps. I really hope we soon see soaps for sale on your webpage! Congratulations for an exceptionally well-run campaign and providing something truly special to your backers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!
@Matt - no need to send me an email on what your next KS project should be, please find my suggestions below ;)
1) high quality stand - matching chestnut turned with stainless steel accents, modern looking - for razor, brush and preferably for the cup
2) complete shaving cream set by the Norfolk Ladies, including post shaving lotion and oil(s) matching fragrances
3) chestnut straight razor, redefined by Thomas Clipper design with optional chestnut giftbox
@Roeland - thank you for posting your impressions (and before/after picks), glad to see you're happy with your new gear. Can't wait to receive my set and have a go
Matt Brown
@roeland Thanks for your note: it's amazing how cleanly a good amount of stubble can be dispatched with a single blade, really glad you're happy. Regarding the oil - we are going to be launching our new site globally in the coming weeks, we'll do our best to feature the oil. And on the KS - glad that you're on board for the next one. Not long before we'll be asking you what you want it to look like... @gizmo No comment... but it should be noted that there are some fantastic new British ales available...
Roeland Kooijman
@Matt - Thanks it was a great day today and people where very surprised when they saw me (see picture why). Today was my first time shaving with a safety razor. And just as Duncan said the sound is the first thing I noticed.
I had saved up quite some sideburns to try it out and have had a goatee for like 10 years now and it simple slaughtered those hairs (used a derby blade but I have a couple of different ones to find out which works best for me). (before and after picture)
Now this picture was taken at the end of the day while I shaved in the morning. It's not nearly the closest shave but that was because I was afraid to cut myself (and there was so much hair). Using it on a daily or bi-daily basis should get it much closer. As for the bowl and brush they both look extremely nice and feel really good in your hand. The soap is also great and it was easy to make a good lather with it and the smell is nice.
Now I also got the Mark K razor with it and though it's my first safety razor I can tell it feels really well balanced in my hand and it's really easy to shave with.
Overall I am extremely happy with the set and can't wait for the next kickstarter you do. (Also maybe you could sell the shaving oil on your website, because at the moment you don't sell it but the bottle will run out eventually).
Love the full plate on Instagram Me thinks that you all had a little more than one or two last night... But then again you all worked very hard for us, so well deserved!
Matt Brown
What a week! So great to see these comments coming in. @Roeland - Happy birthday mate! Very glad to hear it got through to you in time, @Edwin we don't know all of our customers' birthdays, but it's always better when we can double deliver! @Duncan - Royal Mail sounds very odd, but glad it all worked out in the end. Also very happy you're pleased with the shave: means a lot to us. Not only can you hear it, but you can feel it better. Glad that the first shave went well, will only get better and cleaner from here. @everyone - As your parcels start arriving please feel free to pop photos of the gear on Twitter or Instagram using #thomasclipper - would be great to see everybody's shave arriving! Every single parcel is now with our delivery partners so you should already have your parcels, or be expecting them in the coming days (UK) or weeks (further afield). @Gizmo last night we took your advice and had one or two drinks. Time for eggs and bacon I think... Brunch o-clock. Thank you all again - and keep us posted as the rewards land on your doorsteps. Matt PS You might well be getting an email in the next week or so asking what you want us to make next... something to be thinking about...
Duncan Blackwell
Well I'm shaved. No blood anywhere which is a good sign. It's frighteningly noisy though shaving with a single blade safety razor. I never hear anything with the multi blade systems, but this new razor lets you hear every bristle being sliced. Nice and smooth though and the razor feels superb in my hand. Big thank you to all that were involved in design and manufacturing :)
Duncan Blackwell
Well my shave kit has turned up this morning. Little shocked though as although it says signed for on the packaging, it was stuffed under the door mat and the postie hadn't even rung the doorbell. Luckily it's my weekend off which only happens every 5 weeks. Off to try it out now, bandages at the ready and the ambulance crew are on standby ;)
Congratulations Roeland! [Matt send you this as a present? How kind of him, he's a very generous guy LOL] Please do share your initial impressions with us. Have a happy birthday:)
Roeland Kooijman
Woohoo package arrived today. Guess I got my birthday present one day early. And a nice clean shave tomorrow of course.
Matt Brown
@gizmo You've no idea how great that sounds!
Cheers Matt.
If you get everything shipped this week hopefully you can all kick back & relax this weekend with a few beers.
Matt Brown
@Dan, Good morning thanks for your note. The status of your order, and all orders right now, are 'in progress'. We're sending everything by recorded delivery and we'll let you know when all the orders ship - likely by the end of this week as we said, but not everybody has replied to the 'where shall we send it' survey - we're chasing them today. From then it will be around a week before arrival in the UK and a few weeks for arrival abroad depending on your postal system. If your parcel hasn't arrived by end of first week September (UK) or third week September (everywhere else) please do send us a message and we'll track it for you. Hope that's clear! @Edwin and @Gizmo, a very enjoyable thread de-railment indeed.
Dan League
Hello... how can I find out about the status of my order please?
My wife has got piercing eyes, she's able to see the content of my wallet ( RFID blocking feature is just useless when she's in the house. Sorry Matt for derailing this thread
@Gizmo - Ah...I see your point. But what good is that if KS only accepts credit cards? There should be a solution to this collective male problem. Someone please start a project with some genius services to avoid the WAF - it'll be funded within 24 hours and its creator will be well rewarded by this community! :)
@ Edwin
That's how I get away with ordering lots of great stuff from KS as my Boss(the Wife) doesn't know where the money is going or coming from.
@gizmo - that shouldn't be a problem, it seems you've got plenty of those lol
Another Kickstarter....
Oh dear!
I can already feel my wallet opening itself.
Just take our money while you can :) Enjoy your weekend
"We MIGHT have another Kickstarter...." You'd better.... haha, how about making that matching razor/brush stand available asap ? ;)
Matt Brown
@Duncan, no worries at all! @Roeland yes, all of the Mark K razors are in the first batch - all engraved up and ready to go today! @all some have been asking whether the Shave Trunk is going to be widely available. Thanks for asking, Kim's very happy you're already excited. This particular trunk is a one off design that only goes to the backer who snapped it up. But you never know, we might have another Kickstarter...
Roeland Kooijman
I really hope I am in the first batch (seeing I filled in the survey like 2 weeks ago I don't really doubt it). Have been growing a nice beard to try it all out just before my birthday at the end of the month.
