Wheel Minimal Record Player

Discovered on 2017-05-01

Enjoy your vinyl with modern functionality with the Wheel Minimal Record Player by Miniot. As the name suggests, this device is only a wheel. As simple as the design, it’s just as easy to use. Simply drop your vinyl into place and it will play. Incredibly, the center stick gives you total access to controls. The stick controls on/off, play and pause, the volume, and even skipping through tracks. The sleek rotating platter of Wheel functions when laying flat on a surface as well as vertically. Because all of the fragile parts are inside, Wheel is durable while protective of your vinyl. Even with the minimalist design, Wheel gives you the ports you need to connect to amps, speakers, headphones, and even a Bluetooth transmitter.

Hi MINIOT, Any news about the progress of our common project?
Challenge or new ideas, pictures and status.
Please keep us in the loop frequently. Kind regards Norbert

@ Chris Rens:
My carpenters haven't yet had time to complete the design how to place it on the wall, so nothing really to share yet, I'm afraid. But we have a wall section 44 cm wide between two window sections, and I'm planning to have all electricity supply for the Wheel inside this wall section. That way the only thing one really sees is the Wheel, no cables nor nothing. Therefore Peter's drawing of the wall mount is helpful, to understand how much the electrical socket will need to be built in into the wall so that the Wheel can sit flat on the wall.

@ Linus Blom
Hi Linus,
could you share with us your design how to place the Wheel on the wall.
Today in Volkskrant magazine article on the Wheel! Congrats to the founders!

Dear Peter, I sent you a private message, I would appreciate a reply from you asap. Thank you.
Alexis Delgado
Hi! When the player reaches the end of a record is there a feature that automatically plays the record again from beginning ? Or does it just stop?
George Gibbs
@Miniot - ....like you just did. Thanks.
Chris Miksovsky, The wood we use for all of our products is obtained from well managed forests and FSC certified supply. Thanks,
will there larger pictures of the wood other thank just showing the rim on the website?
Chris Miksovsky
Can you please advise more information on the woods in the Wheel? As you probably know, irresponsible logging can lead to deforestation, pollution of waterways from erosion runoff, and the removal of a major resource in the carbon cycle. At a minimum can you advise from which country(countries) the woods come from, and whether they are FSC-certified or not? I'm sure the backers would appreciate knowing the sourcing of the woods so we can make an informed decision about which version to select. Thanks!

Dear miniot team, I sent you a private message few days ago, and I really will appreciate if you reply to me asap. I know the hard work you have now. Warm regards.
George Gibbs
@Miniot - You could always publish a larger picture in a new Update.....
@George Gibbs @Bohus Blahat
In the comment section we cannot place a picture, we already sent the picture by email.
Indeed the picture of the 3 wood types is shown in the Gallery. Thank you for your help.
George Gibbs
@Bohus Blahut - Not sure if there are bigger images somewhere (there sure needs to be!) but I found one in the section labeled "Prototype Gallery" near the top of the home page. Click the green "View Gallery" button and click on the 5th picture (the one showing 3 Wheels). That image shows all three finishes. If you right click on it and "View Image" (or whatever your browser calls it), you'll see an enlarged image. Based on that picture, the main image at the top of the home page would be Mahogany, not Cherry.
Dear Megan Renee' Cartwright My apologies for the confusion. We immediately sent Kickstarter the refund request we received from you on March 22. We can't issue the refund ourselves until Kickstarter has completed the financials. If Kickstarter hasn't issued the refund, we'll do so as soon as we can. Thanks,
Megan Renee' Cartwright
You have a hard time comprehending and responding to my comment or private message.I no longer want to back your project. You need to respond to the private message I sent you on the creator page and comment page.Don’t site there and all of a sudden send me a survey, but when I ask for my money back you ignore me.That’s rude.
Bohus Blahut
um.. sorry... clearly my "hi there" got posted too early... ;) I just got the survey asking about color choices for the wood. Is there a single image out there that shows all three choices? I'm guessing that the main image for the WHeel I see on the page is "cherry"? THanks for your help.
Bohus Blahut
Hi there!
Suan Wee TAN
Hi, is there any possibility for me to select two different kinds of wood finishes for my "Wheels"?
Megan Renee' Cartwright
In the section on your page where it says contact the creator I send you a message.
Beste Marc van Munnen, Thank you for your question. The grooves drive the arm. We will publish more details later... Groet, Peter
When can or must i make the choice for the wood collor?
All the best with the production. Regards Willard
Marc van Munnen
I am curious about the effective mass of the arm, both horizontal and vertical. What is the force that drives the needle towards the end of the groove? Is it just the turning groove or is there anything more neat to help the needle? Marc

On Dutch television I saw a part of an interview with the creators of the Wheel.
It ends rather abrubtly, with a hint to look at the complete interview on the SBS website.
Unfortunatly I could not find that so far. Has someone a nice link? regards,
Dear Rob, Vic, Robert,
Thank you!
Wheel will be delivered on the date of your pledge. The first pledge ships in October, later pledges ship later. If we can ship sooner we surely will, but quality comes first.
Groet, Peter

Hi everybody, Can we please communicate in a common language so that all can participate in the communication with MINIOT.
What about English?
We are all indirect stakeholders and any discussion is of interest for all of us.
Just supported your project - great idea! I'm rather frustated about the delivery date - it is now Feb.2018 - almost one year?! Two weeks ago it was announced Oct./Nov at the latest.
Wheel will be prepared for a dev I/O.
Adam Gruttner
Can't wait to receive the Wheel - it looks amazing!
Just wanted to chime in and say that I would also be very interested to have connectors exposed which would allow controlling the Wheel remotely through a raspberry pi or similar.
The new videos are near the end of the page.
darcy wolf
I agree intergrated Bluetooth transmit, and Bluetooth control with an app would be perfect. Alternatively a dev I/O port that allows external devices to access the control and playback functions. I'm sure with that people will create a raspberry pi interface that with add a ton of functionality to those that desire it.
Dag Martijn, Wheel plays 33 1/3 and 45 rpm 12" records. So yes, it plays the new Ed Sheeran album. Groet,
Hi, The new Ed Sheeran album is a large album at 45 rpm ( not 33). Will it be possible to play the album? And also start from the beginning? Martijn
Hi Pattapon, Wheel comes with a vertical stand. Thanks,
Pattapon Prathuangwong
Hi, do you have a vertical stand? I want to place my wheel on a flat surface, vertically.
Claas Jaeger
I agree with the comments about Bluetooth control. A wonderful stretch goal idea. +1 for good plated connectors as well, to enhance the longevity of the product. Maybe if Bluetooth isn't possible right now would it be possible to expose the connections for control and audio output via a connector (think raspberry pi) so an add-on could be developed? Something Arduino based out pi zero comes to mind. The possibilities for future enhancements would be just limited to imagination then, like song detection etc. Cheers and thanks for the awesome project.
Martin Bouchard
@Run Asulin, +1 for Bluetooth ; ) @Peter, je penses qu'une application pour contrôler Wheel serait un petit bonus stretch goal avec beaucoup de possibilité, (On/off, play/pause, volume, even next or previous track, repeat one side or track, alarm, timer fonction etc) l'application peut être livré plus tard ; ) Merci!
Run Asulin
Adding Bluetooth for controlling Wheel would be amazing! Imagine controlling Wheel - Play/Pause/Skip Tracks - from your phone! Should be pretty easy (for you guys ;)) to implement and would be an AWESOME feature!
Pete Skiera
Hi. A few questions:
1. Will the external power adapter have UL cert for the USA and will it be shielded?
2. Will the belt be user replaceable and be readily available at a reasonable cost?
3. Why not use gold-plated RCA connectors? Most audio cables use gold plated connectors. It wouldn't add much to the cost and helps with corrosion. It also looks like the jack area is pretty tightly spaced and might be difficult to get at with cables connected. Maybe more space between the i/o. Just some thoughts on an otherwise refreshing design.
Peter Kolkman
Dear Linus Blom, We added a drawing of the wall mount to the gallery. Peter
Justin Stanley
Fantastic! Thanks a ton Peter!
Peter Kolkman
Hi Toël Hartmann,
Thank you.
Needle pressure is factory set at 1.75 grams, horizontally and vertically.
Toël Hartmann
Hi Peter How much pressure will the needle have on the disk? Will it be adjustable? Are you compensating for the weight change if the wheel is mounted vertically? Thank you for this wonderfull project. /Toël
Peter Kolkman
Dear Justin,
Wheel can be paused. When paused it spins without playing.
Justin Stanley
Hi Peter, Just wondering is there a way the wheel can spin without playing? I'm concerned that each time I brush the dust off the top side of the vinyl that it will have to be being played at that time on the opposite side. Is this the case? Hopefully my question makes sense. Thanks! -Justin
