Worlds First and Only Webbing Duffel Bag

Editor's Rating
4.8?
Discovered on 2015-11-08

The world’s first and only duffel bag made completely out of webbing! Ever seen a seat belt wear out? We haven’t either, so we thought we should make a bag out of webbing for similar results! Draggin Bags are the answer to the call of everyday Adventure. We created the toughest bags on Earth because we got tired of “other” bags failing at the worst possible times. Draggin Bags are the take-anywhere, do-anything bag you can depend on, from the gym to the construction site. One bag to rule them all and last a lifetime. We figured it was time to start collecting Adventures and stop replacing worn-out bags. Draggin Bags are meticulously double-stitched by American artisans. Two layers of stitching doubles the seam strength because the stitches are then “locked in,” and should a seam ever start to rip (but doubt it will, we towed cars without a problem), fraying is greatly reduced. Unlike all other bags, the extra stitching does not weaken the fabric, ensuring maximum strength. A bag is only as good as its construction.

So? Dimensions of the bag? Internal photos? Description of the number, size and layout of the pockets?

This is pretty much a useless ad without details.

Hi Garrett, any news of a backpack in the near future? :))

Thanks everyone for the compliments! Made some good progress this weekend on the bags (not everyone in the US has had their bags shipped yet), but working on it! @Dominik: Thank you! I am very glad to hear you like your bags, it means a lot. I don't like waiting on stuff to arrive in the mail anymore than the next guy, so I've been trying hard to get in front of any delays and surprises (there always seem to be surprises!). Everyone has been giving great feedback on future designs, and there are a few more cool projects in the works I'll get to after the last bags are shipped. Thanks everyone, Adventure On!

Hello Gareth! First of all, this is my first KS campaign that I've participated in (I backed over 20 projects), where the reward came ahead of schedule. Second thing - I would like to congratulate you for having the willingness and skills and desire to make wonderful things on your own in your own country. I have had several bags made in Asia and Europe (back in the day -90s....) and none of them was so solid and tough looking. I am so happy that I will be using a product on a daily basis (I work in the kitchen so I have to drag my stuff to work) that will last me for years and years to come. Thank you very much and please let me know about any more campaigns coming in the future - I will be more than happy to support them!

A completely unexpected parcel was jammed in my letterbox yesterday, thought it was another kickstarter I was expecting but I was very surprised to find my Gravity Bag.
Thanks for the very early delivery, it is much appreciated.

@Garrett Wow if it aint a small world :) I must admit while expensive (which is the unfortunate point) the GORUCK GR series looks tempting. Looking forward to you next "invention" and take it easy with the sewing, you're doing a great job :)

@ batangueno: I'm glad you like your bag, I've been trying really hard to get them out as fast as I can. The bags are not waterproof, and in fact breath quite well, which may or may not be adventurous depending on what you are putting in them. I've made some prototypes with waterproof linings, but haven't generated enough interest to warrant buying a 500 yard roll of the stuff and adding the option, yet! @ M.A. You make a great point! GORUCK packs are awesome, I've met the folks and been to their facilities, great company and good bags (they are based out of Bozeman MT, where I learned to sew!). Another backpack company you should check out is Mystery Ranch, absolutely awesome, but they do cost a pretty penny. I'll keep looking into making a backpack, there are a lot of good options out there and I want to make certain it stands up well in both design and features! @ Viljo Van Assenbergh: Thanks! Happy you like 'em!

@Garrett Thanks for the update :) Will try to work something out. I can imagine the serious competition you offer if you made an all webbing bag-pack or hybrid, as I was eyeing the GORUCK GR1s, but hell do they cost a BOMB (USD295) which eventually turned me away. @Jimmy Velcro is a good option, thanks for the tip off :)

@creator, thanks much! got my gravity bag waaayyyyy ahead of published delivery date. quick question: how can i avail of the water-resistant (or is it waterproof?) lining?

Thanks MA and Jimmy! Really glad you like the bags, and thank you for the feedback. I am not super excited about the clips either as they don't "feel" as good as I want them too, however they are made in the USA, are mil-spec and I am told each clip will lift 250 lbs. I'm debating trying for medium sized carabiners, thoughts? The velcro is a great idea, thanks! I had tried some clip buckles, but couldn't get them to work quite right. I have used a cable lock in the past to hold the zippers shut, just run it though the zippers and the front handle and you should be good to go if you need a bit extra security! Thanks again for the feedback, I really appreciate everyone input. I don't think adventures should ever stop, and gear designs should continuously improve to keep up!

@M.A. You are on to something...
Velcro would have been good there to, to keep the bag securely closed....
With those minor adjustments these bags would be the absolute BEST!!!

Come to think of it, I worry that due to the construct of the Grendel bag's opening, I fear the zippers may open by itself if I were to check it in at the airport. Any of you guys or @Garrett have an idea how I could help prevent this?

Received my Grendel Bag today!!!
Wow, 3 ½ months early!!!
The bag quality is absolutely awesome... Very pleased with the bag quality itself...
I have 2 minor suggestions...
1. Velcro to attach the 2 handles together...
2. Higher quality clips to attach the shoulder strap...
Not complaining, just a suggestion....
I give the bag an A+++ rating...
Thank you... Best wishes !!!

@Garrett Hi there, i just received the bags. May I commend you on how good a job you did with those bags? They looked simple (which i love), so tough (yeah upon laying my hands on it, i tried tugging, pulling and did pulls ups with it by dangling it over a bar) and they do not cost a bomb. I sincerely hope more people will come to know of your work, so here's to a job well done and much success to you. P.S. Just food for thought, have you ever considered making a bag pack with the same idea (made out of full webbing)? It will be interesting to see what you could do if you ever are seeking new ideas :))

Just received my Grendel, Gravity & Alpha bags. I hadn't expected them yet at all, so this came as a nice surprise. The quality is just as good as the Alpha I got from the previous project and with these 3 added, I've got plenty of versatility. Great work once again Garrett.

I'm so glad that some good solid stuff is still made in the good old USA and I wish your campaign attracted more people (so all the stretch goals could be met). Anyway Merry Xmas Garrett and thank you for being amazing and humble American at the same time! Cheers mate!

@M.A. - So I was able to just fit 8 folded long sleeve military BDU shirts (Large Long) and 6 pairs of jeans/slacks (32x34) into the Grendel Bag's main compartment. The end zipper pocket then could hold a spare pare of shoes, socks, etc. Hope this helps! Hope you have a awesome Christmas as well, Adventure On!

@Garrett Thanks a lot :) have a great Christmas.

@M.A. The Grendel Bag should be able to easily hold 4-6 full changes of cloths (jeans/slacks, socks, t-shirts and long sleeve dress shirts). The Gravity probably about 2-3 fairly easily. Granted, this is an estimate (probably conservative), mileage will vary!

@Garrett Lommatsch How many days of clothes and stuff do you think the Grendel and Gravity can contain? I know the Grendel is 44l, but in terms of days worth of wear and stuff, I am curious :)

Hey Zack - I have a working prototype of the water-resistant Gravity Bag. I put up a couple pictures this weekend. Keep in mind, the pictures I will post is still a design bag, so it may not be quite the final form!

Also do you have any concept sketches of the water-resistant gravity bag? (Thought I read somewhere that it would have a roll top in addition to the water-resistant lining). Sorry for asking fer so much- just curious with what $50,000 could possibly bring.

We seem to be in the middle of lag, we have some awesome colors if we can make it to the stretch goals! @Zack - I haven't looked at adding a Romeo bag as last time there was barely enough interest to break even on production. If there is enough interest though, we'll certainly bring it back and make a combo package!

Thanks Zack! Thanks for the support - I am really excited to share these bags with everyone. The shoulder strap is currently decent - but we have hopes to upgrade everyone to a ~12" padded Cordura/webbing sliding shoulder pad if we get enough backing to drop the manufacturing costs. These provide a great balance between comfort and flexibility. No promises on this upgrade yet because it is still early, but we would love to surprise everyone if we can!

And guys the more chatter we get on this project the higher then rating it gets on the Kickstarter analytics. So let's all talk a lot (and like all the updates as well-I really want that water resistant upgrade)
