The Z – The Most Advanced Gaming Mouse Ever Made

Editor's Rating
4.7?
Discovered on 2016-07-04

Interact with your computer in a faster, more precise & intuitive way with The Z. It’s the world’s first mouse to pivot, tilt, and roll, with a brand new way of clicking buttons – meaning you can access dozens of different button actions while barely moving your fingers. The Z also senses how hard you click, giving variable speed or force control, and provides tactile feedback, so you know when you’ve made a ‘deeper click.’ They have built in an Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Force Sensor & Tactile Feedback to unleash a faster, more precise and highly intuitive mouse. With the mouse on the desk surface, you can tilt left and right for fast mode changes without using your fingers or by pushing buttons. You can assign any action to tilt, like leaning, crouching or reloading. Alternatively, use it as a modifier key (like shift or control) without actually having to press a button or key!

Review from Kickstarter
Hi Swiftpoint users, Dan here from Swiftpoint. I want to address your concerns regarding the Swiftpoint Z Driver updates. As a relatively small company, we're very proud of the product we've created with the help of the crowdfunding community and our early backers. We believe we've built the best gaming mouse in the world and have many testimonials from users who also share that belief. We've had lots of constructive feedback from you, our community of users, as to what you'd like to see added or changed and we’ve compiled a list of potential improvements to our driver software. These range from minor bug fixes, additional features, and a UI overhaul. While progress has been slow we have not forgotten you and will continue to develop our software based on your feedback. Behind the scenes, we've had some major issues with our contract software development team and recently decided we’re best to part ways and hire a new team. We apologise for the lack of communication and in hindsight, we should have been more upfront with the issues we were experiencing. I’m pleased to report the new team is now getting up to speed with the current code and we expect to have them working on changes within the next few weeks. Our plans are to focus on implementing two new settings; the first, to more intuitively allow toggle functions and the second, to allow the disabling of tilt auto-zeroing, which could cause inconsistent behaviour in some use cases. These two changes will be closely followed by a keyboard macro recorder function. The proposed changes will give the user more control over how their mouse functions and will make programming the Z much easier and quicker than ever before. We thank you for your support and look forward to getting your continued feedback as we push the limits of what a gaming mouse can do! Many thanks, Dan Barker

@ Barty - LOL, loving you sharing your Dreams Barty!! I had a dream that the mouse came in a case, and the case contained all the little bits and pieces the mouse comes with so you don't lose them, also the case protected the mouse if you took it anywhere and kept it safe as it was very expensive for a mouse. Then I woke up when an email came in asking for another $25 plus tax, but i paid for it anyway just because I actually really like the mouse and want a nice house for it to live in when he goes on holiday to lan parties.

Even in offer 24.99$ is a normal-bit expensive case for a mouse. But 35$ is just like the case for a luxury gold mouse. I feel a bit disappointed, cause I believed the case was coming with the mouse, but at least if the case would be a hard case. I am sure I can get a better thing home-made with the price of 25$ and shipping costs. I can make by my own a hard case with cut foam inside with the same form you show: http://www.swiftpoint.com/pre-order-launch…
But perhaps I don't have the time to do, so I am hesitating about buying or not.
If you tell me if it is a hard case it will help to make up my mind.
Thanks

The update seems to have fixed the mouse 4/5 buttons in Unreal Engine 2 games somehow, so I'm grateful for that. However, I have noticed that unlike before, the mouse will occasionally vibrate and tell me it switched to my default desktop profile once I get back to my desktop computer and start using it after a while, as if it's going into some sort of sleep mode. I'm not sure what's with that. Also, your programming/profiling software still eats like 50.8 MB of RAM, according to the Task Manager. Still pretty bloated for what should be a simple app, but I can see that it's being trimmed down over time. I still wonder when we'll be getting the promised tilt-to-scroll functionality that's smooth like the Swiftpoint GT or a touchscreen, complete with right-click to continuously scroll. It'd make up for the lack of free-scrolling wheel I like from my old Logitech mice. Finally, for the macOS users out there, I wonder if the Force Touch APIs are documented enough from a device end to make it possible to implement in a future Z driver. I only recently realized that the current "driver" that works with BetterTouchTool is more of an alternate firmware that makes extra mouse buttons out of the force presses that can be mapped within the aforementioned utility, rather than something as customizable as the Windows driver and firmware.

@Grant what about the availability of purchasing the Retail Z Travel Case for us KS backers? I really don't want to travel around nor store my spare parts in the big cardboard box with foam that it came in.

@jungwook oh dont use soap and water :) no but really if you are serious I would use alcohol wipes as it will evaporate rather quickly after wipeing and disinfect the mouse without harming the electronics

I had a few issues when I first received my Z mouse.
The delivery was on-time, the presentation was great, and the product was of excellent quality.
Yet I was having problems getting it to work on my home built W10 machine.
I was surprised to be contacted by the support team to help resolve the issue.
And resolve it they did!
Seldom have I seen such dedication to a product as from the team at SwiftPoint.
A 'special hat-tip' to Bryce who helped me resolve my issues.

Yeah, that's a great function for sure, I use it all the time. Now that I switched again to the new driver version to try some things, I can't use the old driver, it won't reflash the old mouse firmware anymore. So now I'm stuck with the new driver/firmware -_- Since the mouse is connected on the back of my pc which is under my desk, it's no option to reconnect the mouse every start of the pc. Back in the box for now and keep using my good old Logitech...

Oh, and I still do have 2 mice on my desk as well, I just love the free wheel scroll on my Logitech so much ;)

@Hans, what I meant is try to save your profiles to the mouse. This is what I started to do right from the beginning. I don't imply it neccessarily mend your problem but just say I have not encoutnered a problem and this might be a possible explanation. What I can confirm (not tested with the latest driver/firmware) is that the mouse would require a dis/reconnect due to blinking red after the power line was disconnected from my PC (USB power loss). But, and that's just me, this would never ever make me consider giving it back even if I was offered retail price over my early bird pledge.

Review from Kickstarter
@Klaus, with the new driver/firmware I have to either reset and reload settings with another mouse, or plug out and in the mouse to make it work. The Z has no mouse function whatsoever until I do this, only when i pick it up and tilt it, it goes into config mode but still nothing works, no cursor movement, no clicks. When opening the driver window, it shows the Z is connected and I can change everything I want. But only with another mouse. When I revert back to the previous driver/firmware it functions again as it supposed to do. It's not simply a matter of loading/changing profiles. But I tried to save the presets to the mouse, sadly it has still the same result. I just guess I have either to wait until the next update or ask for a refund.
Klaus
Review from Kickstarter
@Hans: no such issues here as Barty and most users. However what I found useful is to always save presets to the mouse when making changes. This way, basically, you wouldn't need to even start the driver unless you want to make changes to the profiles. Maybe you try this?
Hans Meijer
Review from Kickstarter
Hi Barty,
I had no mouse cursor movement whatsoever, but I already got contact with Swiftpoint and was adviced to install the older driver/firmware again for now, found here: https://drive.google.com/open… If doing so do not forget to also 'update' or better said downgrade the mouse's firmware when prompted. After doing this it's 'usable' again without having to do weird things to use it. If you use the Z mouse without its drivers, any €5 mouse will do. So far I have the feeling we got a Ferrari with a Fiat engine as a mouse, so much potential but I keep reverting to my Logitech mouse, just because their software simply works as it should...

Hello Hans! I have no such issues here.
Although I use the mouse as a standard one, without using it's many features, as they canoont be "app" releated for now.

Lol, I just got home, noticed and installed the update, then installed the firmware update. All fine until the next reboot, the Z mouse did not respond at all until I cleared and reset settings within the driver app using another mouse!! Changed nothing, did another reboot, same story all over again. Meaning I have to reset everything, with another mouse, because the Z does not respond at all, then reload all the settings again. Every. Single. Time. What a useless update this is.

Yes, I am from Russia. And I'm sorry that our post service's lost your package.
To make the chances of my packages getting lost to the minimum I use one of many post-forwarding companies located in the US. They provide the insurance and can repack the package so it doesn't get damaged during shipping process. I hope that your mouse isn't lost completely and you will eventually receive it!
