Discovered on 2016-06-27

The Olympus AIR is a new concept, open platform camera that pairs the sophistication of digital interchangeable lens cameras with the intelligence of a smartphone. Olympus AIR offers all of the benefits of an interchangeable lens camera – like optical zoom, high image quality, big bright apertures, strong low-light performance and shallow depth of field – in a sleek, simple form factor. Enjoy the convenience of smartphone shooting without compromising image quality! The AIR A01 pairs the three pillars of Olympus’ world renowned OM-D image quality – TruePic VII™ Image Processor, High-Resolution 16MP Live MOS Sensor and entirely digital M.Zuiko Micro Four Thirds Lens system to produce stunning photos.

How does this Olympus lens compare with the 2 Sony lenses released about 2-3 years ago? As I recall, the 2 Sony products were different focal length and both could be fitted to a tripod, were managed remotely or connected by clamps to an Android App installed on your phone

The Olympus Air isn’t a lens, it’s a micro-four thirds camera that can use any of the Olympus or Panasonic lenses made for the micro four thirds system where the Sonys are standalone cameras that can’t use interchangeable lenses. The Olympus sensor is also bigger. Both Olympus and Sony devices can be fitted to a tripod and controlled remotely with a phone. I prefer the versatility and larger sensor of the Olympus.
