@Lavan We are looking into it, but are focusing on Alexa at the moment for a myriad of reasons. Jamie and Thomas are correct. @James We will have a gradual alarm setting on the product eventually but aren't sure if this will make it to the product at launch, but it will after! Stay tuned!
I would like to vote for a soft start to the volume on alarm. Meaning on alarm the volume of the audio slowly rises over 10 or 15 seconds.
Jamie Belcourt
I could be wrong but I think they said they were planning to look into doing a Google Home version in the future, but right now their total focus is on the Alexa version (obviously). Don't hold me to that but they can confirm if that's correct.
Thomas Smith
I don't think a device can be both alexa and google home. They would need to have two different versions of the software. That would be cool, but increase the cost of supporting two versions of the software.
Lavan Palani Velu
Hi, really excited about this. Just wondering if there was any plans for integration with Google Home?
Charles Robinson
Very cool! One of the best parts about funding projects like this is following the production process, so I'm looking forward to that.
Palo Alto Innovation
@Charles Sorry about that! The Schedule is laid out in the campaign between the story and the tech specs section. It's under the banner: "When will it ship". We are estimating July 2018, but hope to beat that estimate. Thanks!
Charles Robinson
So I've looked at the FAQ's and everything and read almost the entire comments section, the one burning question I have is, what's the timeline on the Doppler? No, I'm not trying to say, Hurry up guys!! Just wanting to get a feel for where we are in the process.
Thomas Smith
I'm looking forward to receiving my Doppler!
Will the expansion port use a standard connector and be documented so users can create their own extras?
Damian Vila
Yay! We did it guys! The ball is rolling! Let's hope everything goes ok, and next year we'll have our Dopplers at home, ready to do these incredible things! Happy to be part of it. :)
David Murphy
Wow! Congrats on being funded with the second stretch goal. So happy and excited for this project.
Jamie Belcourt
Congratulations on the successful campaign, PAI!
Palo Alto Innovation
We did it everyone! Thanks so much for your support! We will post an official update tomorrow morning but we just went live on Indiegogo Indemand and we are now collecting pre-orders. Thanks to everyone for the support, we can't wait to get you your Dopplers!
Thomas Smith
No, I was wrong, the Ikea bulbs are in Canada.
Thomas Smith
I think Alexa should be available in Canada by the time the clock ships. Amazon just opened an office in Ottawa to work on it. Google is here already so amazon need to get going if they are not going to be left behind.
I don't see the Ikea bulbs on the Canadian site, I'll have to drop them a note to see if they are coming.
Jamie Belcourt
Congrats on the second stretch goal everyone!
Andy Mac I run an Alexa controlled Hue hub with Osram bulbs so can attest to interoperability between manufacturers on a more general level. I'm not 100% but pretty sure I recall that they had to enable it as part of the ZigBee license, there was something about it when Phillips tried to block 3rd party bulbs and they had to make a hasty 180? (This was December 2015 so I may have misremembered)
Palo Alto Innovation
Well done everyone!!! @Andy I didn't know that! So nope if the bulbs can be controlled by IFTTT then you should be able to have your lights change when your alarm goes off and such. Well done IKEA!
Andy Mac
@PAI Ikea have released a firmware update to make their bulbs Hue compatible. If they are connected to a Hue hub that will allow IFTTT and Alexa to control them so no need for you to do anything?
Thomas Smith
$150,630 Yes! We reached the 2nd stretch goal and the one I was most interested in (I want Black anyway...).
Thomas Canty
YEAH...2nd goal Hit... :-)
Palo Alto Innovation
@Sal Great idea! We are looking at possibly doing something like this in the future, but for now, we are focusing 100% on the Doppler. @A Crockett We don't have enough backers in the UK/EU to get a partner that can handle fulfillment like that at the moment. Most companies wanted 500 or 1000 units going to the UK/EU and we don't have anywhere near that right now. Hopefully with pre-orders we will be able to fix those numbers, but for now, assume that we will be shipping directly from the states. Sorry about this!
A Crockett
Just wondering if there is any news on whether you would be able to ship your UK/EU orders from within EU? It does make a huge difference. The 20$ delivery alone is no biggy, but if it comes from outside they will add import taxes [the value of which is hard to predict] and 20% on everything VAT on top of that. It really does make a big difference.
I would love to see a second version these features, minus the speakers, Incorporated in your original Sandman. Specifically, The abilities for the alarm clock to have Alexa integration, date, and changing color led. Cheers to a successful campaign.
Palo Alto Innovation
@Damian We are glad you are excited about the Doppler, we are too! The IKEA bulbs are awesome and we are looking forward to seeing what we can do with them as well. If the bulbs had IFTTT it should be very easy to set up something awesome with the Doppler, but it looks like they might not. As for programming with just one app, we are looking into it, but since there are so many different schemes and protocols at the moment it's going to be hard to achieve something useful for all. Instead, we are trying to focus on the other way and have other apps work with the Doppler! Thanks!
Damian Vila
Hi! I'm in Europe, and was planning to get Ikea smart lamps (that will be HomeKit compatible this year) for my home. I was thinking if there was any possibility to set the alarm and the lights both using the app, or if this is out of your plan. I don't mind if I have to set them using different apps, but would be neat if I can program both using just one app. I may be asking for too much here, but no harm in asking, right? Love this project and I hope everything works ok and we all can enjoy our Dopplers next year. ;)
Palo Alto Innovation
Ahhh! 5k to go to the stretch goal with 34 hours left! Let's go people! Share Share Share!
Jamie Belcourt
I was hoping they hit all their stretch goals but let's at least help them hit #2! Share in Facebook groups and such.
Thomas Smith
1,111 backers
and about $11k to go for stretch goal #2
Palo Alto Innovation
@Christopher Still waiting on the toast one to hit Kickstarter! Seriously, though with IFTTT and a wifi plug you could achieve automated coffee and toast with your Doppler freeing up the Quick access buttons for something else.
Christopher M. Whelan
@Sean Beach - check out The Barisieur for bedside coffee in an alarm clock format ( I am backer # 15 :)
Thomas Smith
I podcast was interesting. Thanks for the link.
Palo Alto Innovation
@Jamie, Thanks and glad you liked it! Here is the link for those interested: I will also share it in the next update.
Jamie Belcourt
Really enjoyed the new podcast on Stitcher!
Palo Alto Innovation
@Sean Maybe in a future software update? :)
Sean Beach
Please wake me up when you guys get bedside delivery of coffee and toast figured out :)
Palo Alto Innovation
@Andy We are working on it diligently and we appreciate your candid an honest response. We will understand whatever you have to do and hope you continue to stay involved. @Thomas Yes! Go! Have you shared it with everyone you know?
Thomas Smith
Come on 150k... I want Black anyway.
Andy Tuinman
Please can you tell us within the last 7 days if you will be able to probide a EU friendly shipping. If not I am afraid I have to cancel my pledge. The price for the normal sandman was too high because of shipping and customs.
Palo Alto Innovation
@Bernd No Alexa device required! You just need to sign up for a free Amazon Account and this will activate Alexa if you're in a supported country. We are looking into EU friendly shipping, but can't make any guarantees at the moment. Thanks!
Do I need an Alexa device from Amazon or just the Doppler? Do you offer EU friendly shipping?
Palo Alto Innovation
@Jeff, This is a great question! We are working to make sure they are as seamless and integrated as possible. I can't guarantee perfect seamlessness, but we will try!
Jeff Fourman
Will the Alexa and Doppler alarm functions be integrated and seamless or will they function independently? eg: If I say "Alexa, set an alarm for 6 am", will alarm icon appear on this display? Will the Doppler App reflect the alarm set via the Alexa command?
Andy Mac
Exactly that! Would rather have a single flexible port than three fixed at a lower power. I'd also be ok with having a single high voltage capable and lower voltage one or two. Even in my world 3x 20v USB-PD is overkill!
Palo Alto Innovation
@Andy Are you talking about having 1 USB-C port that's super high powered rather than 3 lower powered ones? I'd have to check with our engineers about how feasible this is. We can certainly look into it!
Andy Mac
Last thought on the subject... Would it be possible to make a single USB-PD daughter-board with 15v/45a capability for later release? The power requirements add up and I've seen some really high powered 12v adaptors so the size has to be ballpark?
Palo Alto Innovation
@Andy, i'm with you... but we had to stop the feature creep at some point, you know? Sounds like a plan for the second desk unit!
Andy Mac
@PAI I just hate buying things that haven't got all the latest features, 3A @ 5V "should" be enough for the use case scenario but what if I like it so much another for my desk?! I should just wait and see how I like the first really...! @Thomas this is what you are looking for? I already have a bedside Dot but tend to use the Hue app for my alarm so it can simulate a wakeup light with a gradual fade in. Not managed to replicate that from voice commands.
Palo Alto Innovation
@Thomas, You could achieve this with IFTTT easily and could be very cool! Great idea! @Andy, The USB 3.1 standard includes multiple profiles of USB-PD going up to 20 volts at 2 amps. Having a power supply that allows us to change voltages is going to be significantly more expensive. I don't have an estimate on what it's going to cost, but we figured the use case is going to be charging overnight, so high power charging isn't needed. And yes, we are planning on shipping the USB-C upgrade board with the final units. Thanks again for your support! We are glad we are the first!
