Apple WWDC 2018 Highlights – Live updates as the show unfolds

• The keynote begins at 10 AM PDT from the San Jose Convention Center, California.
• Expectations: iOS 12 with a dedicated Dark Mode.
• More expectations: Software to manage iPhone use and perhaps an AR upgrade.
• More and more expectations: New HARDWARE!

With just 20 minutes until the show begins, our list of expectations could go on and on. Without any further ado, let’s dive into everything Apple for the rest of today.

• The App Store turns 10 with 500 million visitors per week.
• Apple developers have earned over $100 billion from the App Store.
• 350K apps have been written in SWIFT on the App Store.
• Today is all about software.
• Craig Federighi is onstage introducing iOS 12.

iOS 12

• Half of Apple customers updated to iOS 11 in 7 weeks.
• iOS 12 will be available on all devices supporting iOS 11.
• CPU performance will ensure better battery life.
• With Pixar, Apple created a new file format called USDZ to easily share 3D files.
• Abhay Parasnis, EVP, and CTO of Adobe on stage. The Native USDZ support will be coming to Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Introducing a new app – Measure! Using AR to “measure.”

• USDZ will help you see virtual objects in real size!
• Introducing ARkit 2.

• Creative play possibilities expands with LEGO and ARkit 2.

• Photos is improved with sharing suggestions, end-to-end encryption, and so much more.

• Siri now has more customizable shortcuts.
• Siri Shortcuts will streamline your day with just a simple drag and drop editor.

• Apple News now built into Stocks.
• iOS 12 comes to iPad – keep your stocks on your left while you browse through Apple News.
• Voice memos brought to iPad.
• iBooks has been renamed to Apple Books.
• CarPlay will now support 3rd party navigation apps.

• Do Not Disturb will now hide your notifications (really!).
• Finally, there is Group Notifications support. They will be grouped by app, topics, etc.
• Get a weekly report of how much time you’re spending on your iPhone.
• Set usage limits for apps.

• Parents will now be able to limit their kids’ screen time based on the weekly report.
• Tongue Detection on Animojis  – how cool does that sound!
• Introducing Memoji – Animojis of yourself.

• Fun effects brought to the Messages Camera.

• Introducing Group Facetime – go from a group chat to a group Facetime within seconds.
• Future of group conversations is definitely going to be with Animojis.

watchOS 5 for Apple Watch

• No. 1 in customer satisfaction.
• Grew 60% in 2017.
• A whole new way to enjoy the Activity app with more competitions.
• New workout type for Yoga and Hiking has been introduced.
• Automatic workout detection is here!

• Introducing Walkie-Talkie: New app to communicate with the people you talk to often.
• The watch face will now feature the Siri Shortcuts.
• You can also use 3rd party apps on the Siri Watch face.
• With integrated WebKit, you can now view web content and emails on the watch screen.
• Apple Podcasts coming to Apple Watch.

• Adding student ID cards to watchOS for the universities Duke, Temple, U of Oklahoma, Johns Hopkins, Santa Clara, and U of Alabama.
• Celebrate Pride month with a new band.

Apple TV 4K

• With Dolby ATMOS sound to completely immerse you. Be right in the center of the action.
• Free upgrades to Dolby ATMOS this fall.
• Apple TV app will now have 100+ live news and sports channels.
• Apple partners with regional cable subscribers like Canal+ (France), Salt (Switzerland) and Charter Spectrum (US).
• Zero Sign-On can automatically detect and sing you into apps if you’re on TV provider’s broadband network.
• Quick access on your iPhone for Apple TV.
• See every area location on Apple TV Screensavers!

macOS

• Introducing macOS Mojave!
• Dark Mode is finally here. Great for photography, presentations or for anyone who loves working in a dark environment (lookign at you, developers!).
• Dynamic Desktop allows your display to change from morning to afternoon to evening.
• Desktop Stacks automatically arranges all of your desktop contents by time, date, or tag.

• New Gallery layout for Documents in Finder with a Quick Actions section to make your day easier.
• Screenshoting with Mark-up will make it easy to take perfect screenshots – even for videos.
• Continuity Camera lets you get photos or scanned pics from your iPhone to a document on your Mac within seconds.

• News will now be on your Mac.
• Voice Memos will also be a part of your Mac.
• And, of course – Home brought to Mac as well.
• “Your Mac will look more like everyone else’s Mac” to avoid data-tracking!
• Mac App Store gets a redesign with an in-depth editorial on the best Mac Apps.
• External GPUs powered by Metal introduced.
• Some key frameworks from iOS will now be on Mac.

Are they merging iOS and MacOS? NO!

• Updates will be available to the users Fall 2018.
