CES 2025: Samsung and LG debut smart TVs

Samsung and LG just revealed their 2025 smart TVs at CES this weekend. And the big news is that some of them will feature Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant. With AI becoming a major player in TV tech, each brand is using its processing power and unique optimizations to make their TVs smarter than ever. It’s where things get exciting and, trust me, you’ll want to know all the details.

Curious about how AI is changing the smart TV experience? Keep reading to see what Samsung and LG are bringing to the table and how these upgrades could totally change the way you watch TV!

CES LG TV

LG is stepping up its game with a full AI section in its TVs and renaming its remote as the “AI Remote” to highlight the potential of large language models (LLMs). On the 2025 Evo TVs, an AI Search feature will roll out in the US, UK, and South Korea, using an LLM to better understand conversational context and pick up on subtle user cues. Plus, it’ll integrate Microsoft Copilot for an even smoother experience.

The new AI Remote has a dedicated AI Button that opens an AI Concierge home page. It welcomes users by name and offers personalized recommendations based on their viewing habits. Hold the button down, and it activates AI Voice ID, which can recognize individual household members’ voices. Next, it automatically switches to their personalized settings and content. In my CES 2025 preview, I mentioned a shift toward ambient AI. This technology anticipates what we need without requiring direct input. LG’s new features are a big step in this direction.

But that’s not all. The TVs come with an AI Picture and Sound Wizard. This feature analyzes over 1.6 billion image settings and 40 million sound profiles. It helps users fine-tune their viewing and audio experience to their preferences. For an extra creative touch, the new Generative Image Gallery lets users create custom backgrounds. All it takes is inputting a few descriptive terms.

The OLED Evo M5 and OLED Evo G5 ranges will come with LG’s new Alpha 11 Gen 2 processor. It promises to take picture and sound quality even further than the already impressive 2024 G4 series. While LG hasn’t revealed pricing yet, CES 2025 attendees will get a sneak peek at these next-gen Evo OLED TVs starting January 7.

CES Samsung TV

Samsung is raising the bar in artificial intelligence with a new set of features for its high-end TVs, branded as Vision AI. The South Korean company teams up with Microsoft to launch smart TVs and smart monitors featuring Microsoft Copilot.

These AI-powered TVs will let you search the web for details about what’s on screen, like identifying an actor or product, translating text in real time, and even creating custom background images. What’s more, the top-tier models come with a built-in AI processor that enhances content by boosting colors and contrast while also fine-tuning the audio.

Leading the lineup is the Neo QLED 8K QN990F, Samsung’s most advanced TV yet. It offers cutting-edge performance, a sleek design, and smarter, AI-driven features. With the NQ8 AI Gen3 Processor, it uses AI to improve picture quality, audio clarity, and the overall viewing experience. One standout feature is the 8K AI Upscaling Pro, which upgrades lower-resolution content to stunning 8K quality. I’m excited about this because I can finally enjoy some of the older movies I skipped due to their poor quality.

What’s next

Samsung recently announced it “plans to work closely with leading AI partners such as Google and others to expand what Samsung Vision AI can do.” This move comes not long after Samsung removed Google Assistant from all of its TVs. Both new and old. Meanwhile, LG still supports Google Assistant, though it hasn’t been a major selling point for a while. Even Google TV will replace Assistant with Gemini later this year.

Overall, both Samsung and LG seem to be diversifying their approach by teaming up with another major player in the AI world—Microsoft. It’s clear that voice assistants are no longer just dominated by Google and Amazon.
