HiDock P1 review: Could this be the AI voice recorder for earphones I’ve been waiting for?
It’s my last semester in college, and I’m working on my capstone project. My professor wants me to interview people from around the world, but I live in a small house with my parents. To avoid disturbing them, I sit at the café across the street. During one interview, a couple behind me can’t stop talking about their relationship drama.
I feel a bit awkward with all the noise, but they’re just doing their thing, and I’m mine. Every now and then, I’ve to pause because the background noise messes with the flow. It’s not just awkward for me—it also hurts the interview quality. As for gear? Just some basic earbuds and software. The issue? I had to choose between letting the noise in or blocking it out, which made it tough to interpret the interviewee’s answers.
Fast forward to today. In my HiDock P1 review, I’m here to show you how this handheld device takes away all the hassle when recording. HiDock says the P1 is the first AI voice recorder for Bluetooth earphones, and that alone grabs attention. But trust me, it has much more to offer.
Design and build quality
Pros
- ✅ Magnetic design for meetings on the go
- ✅ USB-C cable for one-tap control
Cons
As a journalist, I’m always on the move. One moment I’m in a café, the next I’m in a park near a university for a professor interview. The magnetic design and touch control cable let the HiDock P1 keep up with that pace.
Open the P1 package, and you get two accessories: a metal plate and a USB-C cable. You can attach the device to metal surfaces like a computer or a whiteboard. When an interview moves from desk talk to hallway chat, everything stays smooth. No phone grabs, no pauses—one small device stays in place and secure.
The USB-C cable gives direct control without opening apps. A tap mutes or unmutes, while a press and hold starts or stops recording the moment something important happens. That speed lets me focus on the conversation, not the device.
Users praise the build for a premium feel (solid aluminum body parts) and modern design. The buttons have clear labels, making the device easy to use from the first moment.
Recording modes
HiDock P1
AI voice recorder for your Bluetooth earphones
Yes, the main selling point of the HiDock P1 is that it lets you record using your earphones on a desktop, laptop, or smartphone. But as your recording needs change, it adapts with three different modes.
- Call Mode: Record with your Bluetooth earphones
- Room Mode: Pick up every voice in the room within 10 ft
- Whisper Mode: Capture ideas on the fly, like a modern-day Leonardo da Vinci
Call Mode
The main feature I love about the P1 is the Call Mode’s BlueCatch. It lets you record while wearing Bluetooth headphones.
Connecting your Bluetooth headphones takes just a few steps. Plug your P1 into your laptop, open the HighNotes app, and make sure it shows up. You’ll see HiDock P1 on the list. Click it, go to configurations, then BlueCatch. Once your P1 pairs with your earphones, it switches to Call Mode, which records both your voice and the other person’s voice.
Call Mode capture sound from both your mic and the other person’s mic. BNCT noise cancellation keeps the audio clean. You can use Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or any app that involves calls.
While in Call Mode, you can use VoiceMark to highlight important moments. These markers show up in your transcript for easy navigation. When I conduct interviews, I mark quotes or interesting points in real time. Doing this manually sometimes distract me from the conversation, especially when I need to ask follow-up questions. Using VoiceMark, I can skip replaying the full recording and go straight to the timestamps to pull exact quotes, keeping attention on the discussion.
Room Mode
When you unplug the HiDock P1 from your computer, it switches to Room mode. You can put it on a table or snap it to a wall. In this mode, the P1 records using its own microphone and picks up sound within 3 meters (10 ft). From what I’ve read, the audio stays clear and consistent, even in normal office or meeting environments.
Whisper Mode
Whisper Mode seems to be a favorite for many. You press and hold the wheel and start talking. It works like a classic push-to-talk phone. It’s quick, handy, and perfect for capturing ideas as they come. You can almost treat it like a personal diary. I see a lot of similarity with Pebble’s $75 smart ring, Index 01, which has a built-in microphone to grab sparks of ideas on the go. In one of my recent articles, I compared the Index 01 to Leonardo da Vinci’s notebook, where he jotted down thoughts and experiences back in the 1480s. I think the same analogy fits the HiDock P1 as well.
Performance
Pros
- ✅ AI-powered Bi-directional Noise Cancellation (BNC) for crisp audio
- ✅ Quick file transfer for hassle-free sharing
Cons
- ❌ Might mix up proper names, brands, or acronyms, especially in foreign or hybrid-language discussions
The HiDock P1 delivers strong audio, even when a room feels messy. Office chatter or background sounds don’t get in the way. Voices stay distinct, which makes reviewing and picking out key points simple.
Transferring recordings is fast—You can move files to another device and start sharing without delay.
That said, one caveat is worth mentioning. Like many transcription tools, the P1 can misinterpret proper names, brand names, or acronyms, especially in foreign or mixed-language conversations. A quick manual correction resolves the issue, and it feels like a small trade-off given the overall performance. If you often deal with specialized vocabulary, the companion app lets you add terms to improve future transcripts and summaries.
Battery life is strong. The 600 mAh built-in cell supports up to 8 hours of continuous recording in Room Mode. That’s more than enough for most meetings or interviews, giving plenty of flexibility when sessions run long.
Verdict
I’ve dealt with messy recordings for too long. Background noise would drag me off track and make pauses a regular guest in my interviews. With the HiDock P1, that problem is solved.

The P1’s design hits the sweet spot for someone always on the move. I don’t have to wrestle with apps just to start or stop a session, and that alone keeps my focus on the conversation. The recording modes also adapt to whatever I’m doing.
Sure, transcripts sometimes need fixes for names or acronyms, but that’s a small trade-off. For a journalist like me, the P1 is a tool that keeps up with my pace and meets my expectations.
