WWDC 2019 – Apple 6K display, iPadOS, and the new Mac Pro
As usual, Apple has pulled out all the stops. While they released a couple products over the past few weeks (including a new iPod Touch and the updated 8-Core MacBook Pro), they left the best for last. Check out all the details you missed.
- What is WWDC? WWDC is Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference that takes place every year in June. It goes from June 3rd to the 7th of June in San Jose, California.
- What announcements do we normally get from WWDC? In the past, Apple used to announce new iPhones or other big ticket items, however, the conference has evolved and the iPhone announcement usually comes in September. But, we are always open to surprises!
- What are some of the special events at WWDC 2019? Other than the keynote which we’ll be covering in this blog, Apple WWDC 2019 also includes the Design Awards, Morning HIIT Workout with Aaptiv, and so much more.
It’s that time of year again – the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference is here. With the tech giant releasing a variety of products in the week leading up to the event, we’ve been on the edges of our seats to find out what else is in store. Here’s a full review of all the big announcements, new products, and juicy details.
Apple tvOS
– Redesigned home screen for a more engaging cinematic experience
– Includes multi-user support
– All new control center makes it easy to switch between users
– Enjoy personalized music experience with the new tvOS with in-sync lyrics support
– Game controller support extends to Xbox 1X and PlayStation Dualshock 4
Apple watchOS
– More watch faces come to life – gradient phase, large numeral phase, digital phase, California dial, and solar phase.
– Taptic chimes will bring a bird song to your wrist
– Audiobooks app for listening to books
– Voice memos and calculator also come to Apple Watch
– Independent app support for developers to come up with more apps that don’t require the iPhone pairing
– The App Store comes to Apple Watch
– The watchOS 6 comes with Activity Trends to compare your fitness and health progress over the last 90 days
– New metrics will give you the motivation you need for long-time fitness
– Noise environment will help you protect your hearing health by detecting the environmental noise. It will periodically listen but not record any audio
– Women can now visualize their menstrual cycle with the Cycle tracking app. It’s also available without an Apple Watch (in the Health section of your iPhone)
– New Pride edition bands introduced for the summer
iOS 13
– 85% of iOS customers are on the latest release
– Downloads will be 50% smaller while updates will be 60% smaller than before
– App launch speed will 2X as fast
– Dark Mode finally comes to iOS 13
– Reminders app has been revamped from the ground up – with smarter typing, smart lists, and more
– The new Maps app will roll out to the entire US by the end of 2019 – from a brand new launch screen to organizing collections, you can now do it all from the new Maps
– Lookaround in Maps gives you a 3D view of the place you want to visit
– New Maps have been designed to be private and secure
– Sign-in with Apple will help you log in to apps without being tracked or force you to use social media (by using face ID)
– HomeKit secure video lets you analyze your recorded video at home and then secure it in iCloud where no one including Apple can see it
– Storage for up to 10 days will be automatically stored in iCloud
– HomeKit enabled routers will automatically cut off from others in case one is compromised
– Memoji Stickers will make communicating online with your identity even more fun
– Portrait lighting in the camera gets even better with more refined lighting adjustment
– You can finally rotate a video in iOS 13
– Photo organization gets smarter with machine learning intelligence so that you get to see all your captures without duplicates
AirPods
– AirPods will announce and read messages as soon as they arrive
– Audio sharing comes to AirPods with just a tap
HomePod
– Handoff comes to HomePod for a seamless navigation
– 100,00 radio stations with Siri will make listening to audio as easy as can be
CarPlay
– Dashboard gets a revamp which lets you see your whole day seamlessly
– Siri will work with third-party apps like Pandora and Waze to make your on-the-go experience even better
Shortcuts
– Comes to iOS 13 to make creating your customized shortcuts super easy

– Neural TTS gives Siri a more natural tone
iPadOS
– Pin your widgets right on your home screen
– Split-View: multi-window capability for apps on iPad

– PencilKit API launched for third-party apps to incorporate the Pencil in their designs

– Stainless steel frame forms a strong structure for foundation
– Stainless steel handle will make it easy to move it around
– Intel Xeon processor with up to 28 cores
– It gets 300W of power with a massive heat-sink for high-performance capacity
– It comes with up to 1.5TB of system memory
– PCIe expansion comes back to the Mac with 8 internal PCIe slots
– There are 2 built-in 10GB Ethernet ports
– Afterburner turns the Mac Pro into an efficient video-editing machine
– It’s as quiet as an iMac Pro despite having 3 advanced fans
– The lattice pattern reduces heat while the optional wheels make it easy to move anywhere
– Pricing starts from $5999 (available this Fall 2019)
– There’ll be a version optimized for Rack deployment
Apple 6K Pro Display HDR
– 32-inch LCD, 6016 x 3284, 6K Retina display
– This display is 40% larger than iMac 5K display
– P3 color, 10-bit, with reference modes
– Polarizer gives a wide viewing angle
– The contrast is 25% better than other displays
– It can do 1000 nits at full-screen brightness “indefinitely”
– 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio
– The display stand can also turn into portrait mode
