BoxLock Smart Home Delivery Padlock

Have total peace of mind for your home deliveries with the BoxLock Smart Home Delivery Padlock. This lock is actually connected to the internet making home deliveries as safe as can be. All you have to do is attach it to a lockable box on your property. Then, when you have a delivery, the delivery driver uses the built-in scanner to scan the barcode on your parcel. Only when recognized will the BoxLock grant access. From there, the delivery driver puts your package into the box and re-locks the BoxLock. With over 11 million packages stolen each year, BoxLock is all but necessary. In addition, the BoxLock is compatible with major shipping giants such as Amazon, FedEx, UPS, and USPS. Because the BoxLock uses Wi-Fi, it can also confirm the status of your package which you can then track. Plus, you can even get notifications that your parcel has arrived.

Hi can you confirm that you’ve received my updated delivery address from the survey you sent please? Thank you. A. Irish.
Ross
@Daniel, Completely understood, thank you for the heads up. Very glad to hear you received your email, we can't wait to start securing your deliveries! The charge for your BoxLock will last 30-60 days with normal use and shouldn't take more than a few hours to charge to full. I hope this information has helped, please let me know if I can assist in any other way.
Daniel
@Ross It has been 4 months since you updated through Kickstarter. Many backers don't read the comments and don't want to go somewhere else to be notified on the project progress. I just received the email to update my shipping address and came here to check what is going on. I am looking forward to getting my BoxLocks.
To add to Larry's questions, approximately how long does the charge last & how long will it take to recharge.
Ross
@Justin and Megan, Thank you for your support and your patience as we finish up our pilot in Atlanta. We expect to have some exciting updates to share next week.
Megan Kwitkin
Once again there has been no update posted. I am beginning to think this project is another kickstarter failure....
Justin
When is the expected shipping
Ross
@Clair, Thank you for your support and the great question. To make sure the address we have on file is your new address, you'll want to review your survey response. You can review your survey responses by logging into the account from which you originally pledged, visiting the project page and clicking the View Pledge button located to the right of the project image.
Clair johnson
Do you have my new address?
Ross
@Larry Abramson I realized left half that first sentence out, apologies for that. You'll get a notification on your phone once your battery reaches 25% and again after each 5% it goes down.
Ross
@Larry Abramson thank you for the excellent questions. Once your battery reaches 25% and again after each 5% it goes down. Once you're ready to charge just plug a micro USB into the port at the bottom of the lock to charge it. No need to worry about replacement or spare batteries.
Larry Abramson
Once we get our lock, is there a low battery indicator? How do we charge the battery? Can we get spare batteries?
Ross
@Larry Abramson We are still on track for June shipments! Our Pilot is going strong and gaining in numbers. Head over to www.getboxlock.com/blogs to follow our post-Kickstarter Updates.
Larry Abramson
So, last comment was over a month ago...still on track for shipping in June?? I'm having a custom made package box made and can't wait to get the lock.
Ross
@Mark D. We are currently running our pilot in Atlanta and working on rolling out driver awareness and training programs with the carriers. We are on track to start shipping in June of this year (2018). Thank you again for your support and patience, we can’t wait to start protecting your deliveries!
Mark D
It has been over a month since the last update. Any news? How is the trial going? Did it start yet?
Megan Kwitkin
Any update??
Justin
I have not gotten a survey yet should I have ?
Abraham irish
Hi I completed the survey yesterday. Can you confirm if you’ve received my response please? Thank you. A. Irish.
Brad
@Tina, thanks for your question. It's a bit of both. We're collecting info to help make the fulfillment process go smoother. We're also aiming to ship in late Spring, so you should expect your BoxLock sooner than we originally anticipated.
Tina
Since we got our surveys today, does this mean the shipping is expected to be sooner than August? Or is this just a part of building the processing/shipping system?
Lance Liu
Definitely will stop by again to talk. I love to meet the people and project I backed at the show, especially CES. You guys are doing great and going to rock the house!! Probably stop by Thursday or Friday
Ross
Lance, It was great getting to meet you and put a face to a backer! Thank you so much for stopping by. I really enjoyed getting a chance to talk and demo BoxLock for you. If you have time to stop by again we're here all week, we'd love for you to be able to get your pictures as I'm sure you plan to share them with all your friends. Thank you again for backing us, we really can't express enough gratitude for your supoort!
Lance Liu
Dear Team: It was so wonderful to see all of u at the CES today at the booth! It was so busy and packed I didn’t get a chance for pictures! But hey! I get to see the product, and am impressed by it. Keep up the great job, Sincerely,
Lance
Brad
@Abraham, apologies for the delay. Please take a look at the FAQ's regarding international carriers: https://goo.gl/s9KeZD BoxLock works because it doesn't require any adaptations or modifications to the carriers hardware. Therefor it isn't possible for them to locate your BoxLock with their device. That said, we think it's a great idea for the future. Each carrier does have different ways that you can provide basic instructions to their drivers, so you can try giving them more information about the location of your BoxLock there. Our overall suggestion is to keep it simple. The more complicated of a task it is for them to successfully deliver your package, the more room there is for errors.
Abraham irish
Hi can you answer my query please? Thank you. A. Irish.
Abraham irish
Hi is this device unlimited to all couriers (worldwide) I’m expecting deliveries from please? Also if there’s no room at my front porch for a lockable box/ cabinet to safely store the parcels, can the couriers locate the drop-off box/cabinet, in a location that I choose (unused car parking space perhaps?), that has more space using the BoxLock GPS location - if the unit can function this way please?
Liz Reisch Picarazzi
I am deep into the business of outdoor storage (citibin.com), so am thrilled to back your project that provides a thoughtful and secure locking solution. I am curious about your thoughts on carrier adoption given that they are likely also being asked to use locking platforms like August and Amazon Key. Have you encountered carrier resistance to adoption because they are confused or overwhelmed with new delivery processes? Thanks in advance for your response!
Matthew Libetti
Thank you for the quick reply!!!
BoxLock, Inc.
@Matthew Libetti: Thanks for backing us! BoxLock Home will work for all deliveries in the household and up to five users without the need for BoxLock Pro.
Matthew Libetti
Would this work for deliveries to anyone in the household? Is it based on address? Or would one need the Pro account to have it work for multiple people within the same household?
Mark D
It would be nice to have the more secure form of the lock, but to be honest I don't think it will help that much. In most cases, this is being used to secure a wooden or plastic box. If I can't cut the lock with a bolt cutter, I can just break the box. Most package thieves are going to just move on to the next house when they see the locked box since most of them are "grab and dash" thieves. This lock discourages the "grab and dash". If they try get the package, it will delay them some Increased time to steal the package equals increased chance to get caught. Just my 2 cents.
Ross
@Raquel, thank you for the excellent feedback. We are still working through final designs to offer the most convenience and security. As our pilot rolls on and we move into our beta, we will have a better understanding of the logistics involved, and where we can improve upon security and efficiency. We are continuing to look at other form factors for future locks and will definitely share more info when we have it and when future products become available. This input is definitely helpful!
Raquel A. Bruce
I support this project, but you HAVE to address the bolt security issue. Maybe you look at the hidden shackle padlock, which looks like a hockey puck-- and work on programming that for a wireless key. There is nothing to cut. With the barcoding protections that you already have your lock would be as close to perfect as it cam get. Look on Amazon for an example. I think something like that would totally defeat someone with bolt cutters.
Megan Kwitkin
How about the backer chooses the option of yard sign or window sticker?? The yard sign would work better for me as I have very limited window space.
BoxLock, Inc.
Hi Bryan, thanks for backing us and for the feedback. We are looking at other form factors for future locks and will definitely share more info if and when future products become available. This input is definitely helpful!
Bryan Glover
Could you consider making the lock more like this type to make it more difficult to remove with bolt cutters? https://www.screwfix.com/p/master-lock-excell-disc-padlock-max-shackle-w-x-h-31-x-30mm/84205 Thanks
BoxLock, Inc.
@Thomas, that's something we haven't looked into but definitely will. Thanks for the idea (and the backing!). Thus far we've been using a hangtag in our testing that's been very effective. We'll definitely continue to look for ways to refine this as part of our pilots. You can see a photo of the hangtag towards the end of our update the other day: https://goo.gl/GMCmb9
Thomas
Could you be providing a quick 'Step-by-Step' guide (maybe a sticker for the front of the yellow module) to guide courier new to the device?
Jill Wong TheMotleyGeek
Hi, it sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately I've had bad experiences in the past with projects that ship to Australia, but have never done any testing in Australia. For that reason, I will have to pull out. Good luck!
Anne
I would love to be included in the Atlanta pilot!
Ross
@Larissa Thank you for the question. We automatically collect shipment notifications from Amazon, FedEx, UPS and USPS after the initial setup.
Larissa S
Does it automatically update the tracking numbers, or do I have to ad each one individually? Can I add my address to the major carriers, & have them update on their own? Thank you
Ross
@Thomas, tahnk you for the great question! Regardless of where you’re located, you can manually add tracking numbers and BoxLock will open one time for that tracking number as long as it’s been added to your account. As well as the ability to Barcode share. So far, we have only tested the carrier integrations with Amazon, FedEx, UPS and USPS with shipments being delivered to the United States and can only ensure that the automatic collection of tracking numbers and the confirmation of delivery status has only been tested in the US. Make sure you check out the FAQ! https://goo.gl/XvXdsk If you can't find the answer to what you are looking for there I'll be happy to help!
Thomas
Will this work only with your tested couriers only, or can it also work with any national postal services of any countries?
Ross
@Jill, great question, thank you! You'll be happy to know that we are shipping to Australia! Thus far, we have only tested the carrier integrations with Amazon, FedEx, UPS and USPS with shipments being delivered to the United States. We can only ensure that the automatic collection of tracking numbers and the confirmation of delivery status has only been tested in the US. That being said, you can still use the app to add your own shipping labels as well as have the ability to Barcode Share regardless of location. BoxLock Pro will leverage Shippo for our carrier integrations and should have a higher reliability with confirming the delivery status for international deliveries. As we have increased demand outside of the United States we’ll continue to explore ways to expand the features and availability internationally.
Garrett White
Is it going to be molded plastic or 3d printed
Jill Wong TheMotleyGeek
Will this work in Australia?

How does major carriers know to use the boxlock?
BoxLock, Inc.
@Dave, good question on the Wifi. We've explored 5 Ghz Wifi and ran into two issues:
1. It has very limited range compared to 2.4 Ghz and likely won't make it to the exterior of your home reliably.
2. It has much higher power consumption that would significantly reduce the battery life of the product. Most IOT devices that do use wifi are using the 2.4 Ghz range. We've been successful in our current pilot homes where Wifi has been an issue using this Wifi extender: http://amzn.to/2yIoNPv That said, I'd wait until you get the device to see if you have an issue first.

@Creator - What about the reverse scenario where you expect a UPS or FedEx pickup- can they scan the barcode for your return shipment tracking to retrieve a package that is being picked up? Generally when you schedule a return shipment pickup, you give the company the tracking info, so perhaps the driver will have a barcode representation of this tracking that the driver can scan to open the lock.
