Micro Bandboard Pocket Clipboard

Editor's Rating
4.8?
Discovered on 2015-06-09

The Micro Bandboard by Obstructures is a pocket sized clipboard for 3×5 cards. Made from lightweight anodized aluminum utilizing rubber o-rings to secure cards, writing instruments and electronic devices it is perfect for those who write, sketch or plan on the go. As an alternative to a notebook, this miniature clipboard allows for sorting and categorizing rather than being stuck with the linear narrative of the book or pad filled with one kind of paper. It is accompanied by an array of custom printed cards for drawing, notation and organization with many more to come.

Jeffrey- We have no message from you. The comments section is hardly the place to inquire if you expect results. Since this kickstarter ended and shipped year ago, we don't really monitor the comments, but do get messages. I will take a look at your backer report and see what's up. I'll contact you via a message shortly.

@Calvin- I suspect the edges of the board may be the culprit. Glad to see you are customizing, but it looks like we should do something about the board. We will contact you via private message.

Both 219 A50's broke on mine as well. I put on the 126 A50 in the same spot and that has been fine for the past week. I think I'll order some larger diameter ones as the 219 did seem quite taut.

Review from Kickstarter
@Calvin, The plates are tumbled to de-burr them which knocks the sharp edge off the aluminum. There is no consistent or economical machining operation to round them so to speak, and keep the aluminum that thin. We carried these for over a year before selling them and use the same process for our wallets. o-ring breakage is rare and generally a product of a defective ring. Now in the case of Rappley we suspect that his board was not properly tumbled if at all since the breakage is excessive. We still await an image or details from him regarding this before we can come to a conclusion.

The squared edges seem sharper than desired. Rounding them is likely to increase band life. If you ever do a batch with rounded edges, I'd be in for that!

@ Rappley: By both do you mean you broke one, then put on a replacement and then broke it? there should only be on of those bands on at a given time. The bands should not break that quickly. Either you received 2 defective bands or the edge of the aluminum board was not deburred properly and it is cutting the bands. Either way, we have you covered. Send us a message so we can tie this to your backer report and get you some replacement parts in the mail ASAP.

Each of my 221 A50 bands broke within a week of being put on. The funny thing is that it hasn't really been used and is just sitting on my desk. Anyone else have this issue? I have double-checked the assembly and don't think it is something I have done.

Thanks for reacting so quickly. We really like it. It is a little complicated putting together but after that is done it works as long as you don't try to put to many note cards in it. Did you figure out how many note cards you can put into it with no problems?

Nikki- Yours is marked as shipped and I remember packing it up. If you would not mind, please send us a message so we can tie this conversation to your backer report and we will get this resolved,

I've received mine and I love it. Do you have an estimate on how many cards it can hold without putting too much strain on the bands?

Received today, may need a second one! Got it as a Christmas present for my boyfriend who unfortunately was the one to get the mail today. Ended up having to set it up for him early, but he likes it and is looking forward to using it at work. And now I want one for me!

Can confirm I've received mine. Very neat, I'm glad I went in for one. Will you be selling the various types of notecards at some point?

Pamela: Sorry you are having issues. If looking at the images does not help, I can try to walk you through it. Perhaps we can shoot an assembly video as well. In the meantime-
1. sort out the 4 types of rings via the diagram on the back of the instruction sheet.
2. The big thick one (221) wraps around the board at the top. Top is the side with the big notch.
3. The tiny band goes on the tip of the clip
4. Now take 128 band (the stiffer one) and wrap it around the clip at the top of the board. As you will see from the images/digram, the clip rests on the fat band and is held in place by another band. That allows it to work as a clip.
5. Lastly, use as many 128 (the soft ones) bands as you like at the bottom of the board or over cards to hold them or a pen in place.
Hope this helps. Might be a few days before we have a video up.
Just take a look at the images/video on the Kickstarter page and it will probably help.

I'm having some problems putting this together successfully ... is there a step-by-step video or directions someplace? With my eyes, the single graphic instruction sheet just doesn't cut it. Thanks very much in advance.

@boundme: As we posted in our last update, we are just waiting on o-rings and the parts to be anodized. We just got the parts back and expect the o-rings next week. We do still plan to ship on time as promised in the campaign. Cheers- Matt

Haven't seen any or heard of any updates as of late. Are we still expecting late September early October?

How do I send you a message through here? Or did you mean from your website? Also, do you know of the info on the wallets for the o-rings? I'd like to get Orange rings for my black anodized wallet

@Jason Kin: The cards come from our printer in Chicago bound so this would be a tough thing to do. It only made sense to print pads of 100. You can add a pad to your order if you like. Send us a message and we can discuss.

Can we get a mix of two styles of cards when our boards ship? I'd REALLY like both lined and grid

@Abraham, Sorry for the late reply. Yes- you can add $10 for the index cards if we are shipping to the US. If we are shipping internationally it might be a few more dollars for the added weight (these cards can get heavy!)

Hello I messaged you regarding a technicality and whether or not it worked. I would like a reply since it'll determine if I keep my pledge or not, thanks!

@Casper- Sure, you can simply double your reward if you are in the US. If we are shipping international it might be a few bucks more. @Scott- You got it- around 15.

How many 3x5 cards can the o-ring hold comfortably & securely? 15?

I want two of these but I don't necessarily need all the index cards in the double pack. Can I double my pledge and get double the reward?
Casper
Review from Kickstarter
Still new to Kickstarter here. If I pledge into the "or more", for example the 27+, and pledge $54. Does that give me twice the reward?

@ian: do you mean to add an extra set of 3x5 cards? We have rewards that include 3x5 cards in various quantities. Send us a message and let us know what you are interested in and we can work it out.

Hello Juhani- If you need spare rings for the larger Bandboards we have them in our shop here:
http://obstructures.org/shop/19/spare-o-rings-for-bandboards
If you are in no rush, we can combine shipping with the Micro when the time comes. And yes, the Micro will fit under the wing of the larger Bandboards. At its thickest point (clip mechanism) it measures about 8 mm.
Juhani
Review from Kickstarter
A happy Large Bandboard user here. Is there any chance of spare ring add-on for your previous products with this one?
Also: Would the Micro by any chance fit inside the Large, so that it could be attached to what is the inside of the 'wing' when closed. Thinking mostly about the thickness of the clip mechanism; width-wise it should just about fit, right?

Christopher- we heard this from some military guys when we sold our small run of prototypes early this year. So glad it can be of some use in the field. One of the comments is that it was better than a pouch or nylon card cover because it didn't collect sand!

Great for military guys like me - we always carry around index cards on our large ACU pockets, and they get bent up.

Another great design! Looking forward to this one, my job doesn't allow any electronic devices in the operations area. This will work perfectly.
