OROS Orion Series – NASA-Inspired Performance Apparel

Editor's Rating
4.7?
Discovered on 2016-02-08

With the OROS Orion Series, you can now get rid of those bulky winter wear and switch to a new range of apparel that is thin but equally warm. This series features jackets, beanies, gloves, and snow pants insulated with aerogel– the same stuff NASA uses to insulate their space suits!! Buying an Orion Series product by OROS gives you a warmer, slimmer, sleeker product than the competition. The idea was to come up with a design you can wear at the top of a mountain and even at home. Those plenty of layers you used to keep yourself warm during winters will now be replaced by a thin, fashionable gear with no layers. Using the same insulation NASA used in their space suits and space shuttles, OROS brings you its line of thin, warm performance apparel. Aerogel is the lowest thermal conductive solid on the planet which does make it the best insulator in existence. OROS makes use of this beauty to turn your winter wear into a comfortable as well as stylish solution.

I was talking with Oros support through email because my gloves' stitching is coming apart after wearing them only twice for a commute and they suddenly dropped off the grid. I have not heard back from them since the 9th of December; I have submitted two more tickets and contacted them on Kickstarter in the hopes of getting a hold of them. Still nothing.

Potete fare qualcosa?

My husband's gloves are coming apart after only 2 times wearing them. He was sitting and watching a football game both times, so they should hold up better than that. Can someone contact me about a refund please? Thank you.

I have issues with the glove liners not being fixed/stitched to the ends of the fingers of the glove. Pulling your damp clammy hand out of the glove pulls the lining out with the result that you cannot put your hand back in. This is a serious design flaw. Very frustrating when you have just fixed a puncture in freezing weather.

I have issues with quality of 2 jackets ordered, seams are falling apart and fabric isnt holding up after a months use. Sent 4 messages in a weeks time and received 1 back. Still waiting for response.

I concur with the tightness of the gloves. I typically do not notice unless I am attempting to grip something. When I ride my bike to work it is a bit rough on the grip muscles, however, they do a very good job of keeping my hands warm. The pants fit well and keep me warm. I have no complaints in that department.

Hello, I have finally gotten a chance to really test my jacket for some cold weather here in Canada. We recently had some -20's with windchills of -30's celcius. I definitely agree that this jacket is heavier than expected. And that style and looks, are very nice. The stitching does feel a little on the fragile side. Especially compared to my Canada goose and my Burton jackets. The velcro, not a huge fan of. They look like they are of decent quality, but things like scarfs get stuck to them while putting everything on. Maybe next time snap buttons, regular buttons or magnets instead. The zipper also feels difficult to zip around the neck area, regardless of where our not I have a scarf on. The thumb holes I love, but as mentioned above, the stitching is a little fragile. The pockets feels shallow. Difficult to even fit a pair of gloves, or toque. Though I do like that they are nicely lined, so they are soft when I put my hands in them without gloves on. As I have mentioned above about my recent weather. I have noticed that at the seams especially at the shoulders, it feels like it is letting cool air in. And I have noticed that at the seams, there is no insulating material there. It is basically a weak point in the keeping a person warm. I may not notice it if I was doing activities, but when I have to wake up and take my dog out, the cold comes through and is a little disappointing. I do like the jackets, if future jackets are made with improvements especially all that is noted in the comments section about the jacket, I would probably buy again. Thanks

I've been using this jacket for about a month now, if the goal was to create a jacket that could keep you warm then it is very successful. However i don't like the zipper, and it seems more difficult to zip up on my neck. the hood is awkward and blows off in the wind, would much prefer the hood and fur on my canada goose. the gloves fit but feel tight and it takes more energy to grip. been shoveling snow for the past few days and at times i've gotten too warm and had to take off the gloves and open the jacket and pit zippers. on future products i would love to see more flexibility on the gloves. on the jacket, a fur hood and better zipper, like on a Moose Knuckle or Canada Goose.

Hi Oros, it's been a week since I wrote to you on three separate contact channels without any response. Considering you are immensely active on Instagram, I would appreciate it if you could reply to my query ASAP as I really like your product and have recommended it to my friends. But untimely customer service as you know is a deal breaker for quality expensive products. Thanks.

Got the coat and gloves about a month or so ago. Been wearing the coat on a regular basis; the gloves only a few times as the mediums don't fit very well for size 7 hands. Perhaps I have slightly longer fingers but they pinch between the fingers and don't flex very well; very stiff. Not sure if I'll continue to wear the gloves as they really don't fit very well for my hands. Anybody interested in buying them off me? As for the coat, good overall design but here are the critiques:
- weight: a lot heavier than expected, about as heavy as my full-sized Eddie Bauer Gore-tex, full down Ridgeline parka and that's a heavy coat.
- main zipper: low quality, should have been proper, hefty YYK zippers with larger teeth and a stronger pull as these will be pulled on with regularity and I can see these falling apart after a year or two at which point I'll be sending back for warranty service.
- stitching: some stitches are starting to come apart already. There should have been double-stitching at all the high stress and wear points which doesn't seem to be the case. I also have had the stitching in the interior deepest corner of the lower left pocket already break through and I only put a thin OD green army issue wool glove liner in there.
- pockets: the number of pockets is good but they all seem to not be very deep. I don't know how you can stuff your hat, gloves, and neck gator/scarf anywhere except down the sleeves unless you want to have massively bulgey pockets where the zippers might fail.
- additional duck pocket would have been great to stuff the hat/gloves/scarf if there's no way to make deeper pockets.
- velcro: seems to be good stuff but definitely needs to be double-stitched or "x"- stitched as these will fall apart over time from all the pulling/tugging.
- fingerless glove/sleeves: great idea and actually warm, but very tight to pull over my hands and makes looking at my watch impossible.
- wind-stop waist-cinching thing inside: great idea, once again the stitching's coming apart. Single-stich = bad, double/triple-stitch = good for high wear points. The pros for this coat are: stylish, very streamlined profile, with good materials. Not so good is the execution of the build/design; primarily the stitching. Better thread and double-stitching is a MUST!

I got my Oros Orion gloves through Kicjstarter and have had them for less than 3 months, have only worn them twice, and when I have it has been just to go for a walk. Despite this, one of the seams on one of my gloves is tearing, and the other is sprouting loose threads. I assume this is covered under warranty and would appreciate your help with this.
