@Maria right now the relaunch is scheduled for Q4 2017 - follow our updates here or on our Facebook page (, we will keep posting news about the progress!
When do you plan to relaunch, later this year or next year?
Benjamin Button
@Linh Gutsu: Yes, that would be a logical step! We definitely want to be as close to the first users and their feedback as possible.
Linh Gutsu
Yes was wondering a private one for just backers
Benjamin Button
@Linh Gutsu: We already have Facebook fanpage - - but I believe you probably mean a closed Facebook group for the first users, dedicated to support? Yes, we were thinking about this and it is highly possible, since we understad that for some users it can be more convenient than using our internal interface (
Linh Gutsu
will you be creating a Facebook page? I've been on a couple of other kickstarter campaign and they have FB pages which helps with after the close of the campaign for questions between bakers. It's a suggestion because I'm sure I would be one that has lots of questions on ease of us and how to view the videos and etc.
Benjamin Button
@Linh Gutsu: Very good question! Yes, image stabilization is one of our core focus areas. The footage will be stabilized in two stage process: first on the image sensor and then the whole video is fine tuned by in-house developed firmware providing excellent image quality.
Linh Gutsu
I don't know too much about all the tech side of things. But i like the idea of being able to capture moments of my children growing up. I wanted to know, will the video footage be stabilized? in the old way of recording, using a camcorder, if your hands weren't stable the footage was a bit shakey. that would make me sick watching it.

@Lyndsay we will be happy to connect, thanks for your support. Talk soon!

Hi, I would like your project to be successful and help families. Yes I did see my daughter's first step, with Dad in our Kitchen, in Bedfordshire, UK, but alas no photo, I can help re battery life, lens etc. Contact me Skype lyndsay5 or

Where was this product when I was born???? I don’t remember anything!!!!! Bring back my memories guys, can you do that?
Finally some proper hardware project from Europe!
Lucia Čunderlíková
Such a cool idea, can't wait to get mine. Good luck, Benjamin Button

@SilviaAnderson Hi! thanks for your question. It will be a non-toxic, BPA-free plastic; the plastic will be completely safe and environmental friendly.
Silvia Anderson
What kind of plastic is it covered with?
Andy Striker
I need this!!!
Michala Lipkova
@Lyndsay thanks for the link! We know this product, but it's not suitable for our needs. That's why we are working on a custom solution with advanced BMS ensuring high reliability of the product.
Benjamin Button
@Maria no, battery life is expexted to be 3 hours of non-stop recoding!
Do we have to charge every 45 mins?
Lyndsay Williams
Hi Michala, thanks for this. A circular battery with 1500mAh...
Michala Lipkova
@Lyndsay thanks for getting back to us. Experts ask relevant questions! Here are honest replies: There is pleny of dedication and strong belief in our team and project. Five of us are working on benjamin for more than 2 years. The project is developed in additional co-operation with experienced developers, you can check our partners on our homepage. We have a smart investor on board already helping us not only with the finance but coming distribution of Benjamin button cameras and legal stuff too. There is a misunderstanding regarding the battery life - 45 mins is related to current prototypes. Battery life is expexted to be 3 hrs of video recording in final production ready product. Customed made cylindrical shaped battery w/ 1200 mAh + capacity is going to supply the PCB. Additional innovative feature is automatic start-stop video recording, that enables user to avoid black images when camera is not clipped on, but for example laid in your pocket.
Benjamin Button
@Lyndsay, I see that you are an experienced backer, managing director at Girton Labs and you invented SenseCam yourself too? Such a pleasure! Also, huge honor that you noticed our startup :) We will be happy to discuss everything personally over Skype, so check your Kickstarter messages for more details. Talk to you soon!
Lyndsay Williams
Hello, you have a 12 month timescale, 15 staff and a requested budget of just $25K. How do you cover all your development costs? You mention the video battery life is 45 mins, so do customers need to keep charging up camera in order not not miss moments in a day?
Lyndsay Williams
Hi, the tech in your camera is covered by the Microsoft patent, i.e. the use of accelerometers, mics and sensors. Also Sensecam is a 15 year old design and so not as small as modern technology.
Benjamin Button
@Lyndsay Thanks for comment! We made a large market survey of intelligent wearable cameras before we started to develop Benjamin Button. SenseCam was nice, but not well executed approach from Microsoft Research to bring a wearable life-logging camera to the market. In general, it was not accepted because of gawky form factor and tricky usage of the device itself, especially for parents. We are aware of great impact such technology could bring to the families and serve not only as a life logging camera. For instance, paper titled "Parent driven use of Wearable Cameras for Autism support: A field study with families " shows how devices such as SenseCam can impact family life in a positive way. Regarding licensing: Part of our automatic editing software undergoes licensing to 3rd parties, namely face detection and recognition. Signal processing algorithms from sensors (cccelerometer + gyro & microphone) are being developed all internally by our engineers. This is a long term process, but we are on the right way to go.
Lyndsay Williams
This looks a very neat design. re " algorithms processing signals from sensor recognizing sounds / microphone / and motion / 3D accelerometer + gyro /" Do you know about the Microsoft patent for SenseCam, that covers a wearable camera with motion sensing with accelerometers? ? Are you using these algorithms under license?…
Benjamin Button
@Maria @Michaela: thank you for your questions! Shooting and processing UHD, or 4K video is technically challenging process requesting very expensive components - sensor, optics, and others, causing specific technical issues too. Our go to market strategy is developing HQ full HD camera with pefectly stabilized and colourful images to be easily stored and distributed over the internet. Thus full HD videos are perfect for smartphones or tablets, where most of the recorded video footage will be displayed. Benjamins of coming generation will have 4K video recording capabilities . Have a nice sunday!
Full HD/4K question was good, looking forward to the reply

Hello Peter,
Thank you very much for your interesting questions. Great to see Go Pro user supporting our project!
Please keep calm and don´t be afraid of the overheating, or reliability issues. Go pro´s are prone of overheating and reliability issues, especially older models. It was one of the motivators to bring to the market reliable and super safe camera even childer can wear. Yes, it is challenging but doable!
By optimization on both SW - advanced video processing chain and HW – pre/processing of images on image sensor we are able to deliver excellent image quality within operating temperature range of approx 100 F and save battery too.
Benjamin´s temperature may rise during video editing process, but it is meant to be on charger laying on the table or in the stand.
Best moments are evaluated by algorithms processing signals from sensor recognizing sounds / microphone / and motion / 3D accelerometer + gyro /. Advanced feature is also face detection and recognition tool that enables you to tell the software what faces you want to see in the final video of the day / i.e. daughter, wife, grandpa, etc. /
Icing on the cake is our mobile app that allows you to tell Benjamin, what was the interesting moment by clicking the „SAVE THE MOMENT“ button after it happened.
Please see this explanatory movie for further details…
Thank you for your support from all Bb team members, Peter, and have a great family weekend!
Hi, I am curious how exactly does the camera work. How it can pick the best moments from the video? Things that makes me furious about the go pro camera is battery life and overheating causing various malfunctions and affects reliability. I really like the concept of Benjamin button camcorder but I am aware of overheating too, since it is only slightly bigger than my GoPro 4.
So how is the cooling of Benjamin camera managed?
Dvorakova Michaela
Why is the resolution of the camera only full HD and not 4K? My iPhone can make beautiful 4K videos. Truth is I can't just clip it on and always need both of my hands when taking care of my little boy :)
