The Stone Cup – Refine Your Drinking Experience

Editor's Rating
4.7?
Discovered on 2016-03-07

Introducing the Stone Cup, a beautifully designed every day cup made from real metamorphic rock. Using the power of Mother Nature herself, the Stone Cup relies on naturally occurring elements to naturally regulate the temperature of any beverage inside. Artisan milled, the Stone Cup can be chilled or heated as well as keep the contents inside at their ideal temperature for longer than an ordinary cup. As with all of nature, the black marble design is totally unique – no two cups are the same. Each cup is 4.25 inches tall and 2.25 inches wide. Tapering towards the base, the Stone Cup is easy to hold and is even dishwasher safe. Designed to last a lifetime, the Stone Cup holds eight ounces of liquid.

Anyone else get the following email? "Good to See You Again!
If you watched the video, you're already up to speed, and here's the link you need to click :) If you didn't... here's what's going on: I sell stuff online. And at some point in the last year, you whipped out your credit card and purchased what I was selling. But just two years ago I was still stuck in school, working two part time jobs - one as a custodian, the other as a bank teller. Then I started learning about internet business and didn't look back! I've since generated hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars online - specifically using Amazon, Kickstarter, Facebook, and Shopify. I'm the perfect proof that ANYONE can do it. That means YOU (big finger point) can do it too.

There's no "magic formula" or genius innovation that you need... just the right set of tools and knowledge of how to use them. Internet Business Builder" I thought the name sounded vaguely familiar and after a quick search of 'Alex Scoffield Kickstarter,' the comment section of this campaign appeared as the top few results. I haven't watched any of his videos, but I imagine it's just another scam like this campaign. User Cg2's comment was the one I found most useful, "Apparently Sean is a Guru of the crowdfunding: https://www.ivoox.com/the-secrets-to-a-100-000-hardware-crowdfunding-comeback-audios-mp3_rf_6767848_1.html. While working at Rourke, according to his linkedin profile (https://www.linkedin.com/in/alex-scoffield-7a5b7578), it might also be a good idea to contact Alex Scoffield: https://www.facebook.com/ahscoffield, who coincidentally, likes geefi a lot (runned by his fb friend Eli Ostreicher, just to say "be careful with geefi")" This points to this Alex Scoffield being a colleague of good old Sean O'Rourke, aka the guy who screwed us all over with this campaign. I'm assuming this email went straight to junk mail - as mine did - but I was curious if anyone else had been the target of what I presume to be a new scam.

For anyone wanting to smooth the inside of their cups without the use of cylinder hone, it can be done. Here are some images of mine after wet sanding with 240 grit, then 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit. Takes some time and if yours are especially rough you may want to start even lower grit but this is all I had on hand. The inside is now as smooth as the outside. https://imgur.com/gallery/17els I didn't take any before pictures but it looked very similar to other people's images in prwvious comments.

Concerning the granite cup campaign. Must say i received my two cups in best condition, their capacity is better with 200ml (still not the advertised amount) what confused me was that they are granite and these here are supposed to be black marble an both look the same. So i guess it's granite after all.
At least they are learning. Maybe with the 4th or 5th stonecup campaign they will get it right... :)

Everybody remember Rourke's update pointing to this campaign
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1178312468/naturally-heated-cooled-and-beautiful-granite-pure/comments
and stating that they are copycats and that they even use his video material, etc.? Well guess what, Rourke even backed that project himself - hmmm!!! And I just read the comments of the past 24 hours, let me copy them here shortened :):
1) 10 cups all 10 broken
2) 6 ordered: 4 intact, one broken, one completely destroyed
3) Booth my cups were broken. What to do?
4) Both cups have significant chipping, but one has a crack and it leaks liquid.
5) Got my 6 cups here in the UK, 1 cracked.
8) Got my package today, both cups were totally destroyed
9) Received my 2 cups earlier this week. One was completely broken up into 5 or 6 pieces. The other one has visible cracks. And if you read further down, every single person that received them commented that one or more are broken. Oh and several comments say "emailed but no response" --- hmmm, they didn't only copy the video..... 29Lines will be the same disaster, they are all one and the same bunch all from beautiful Utah, Provo or vicinity

And now 29Linens. I can't believe that people would back 29Linens - it will turn out to be the same ripoff than this one. Of course 29Linens is all connected with this guy and the reason they cancelled their campaign and started ut newly was to remove the negative comments and the association with this campaign
I cannot believe that Kickstarter continuous letting this crook use their platform to rip off backers. I have stopped backing (unless it is a campaign that has a proofen track record) because of this and hopefully many more do until Kickstarter get's their act together

Review from Kickstarter
Dear all, it seems that I am the only one satisfied customer among the backers for this project. I received mine some days ago. And honestly, they even look better in person than in the photos. I have no problem at all with the difference of ounce capacity as the cup looks amazing. Even the sleeves have a certain different touch. I have them on my office desk, as they even look like decoration. I have received only compliments. I am very sorry the rest of the backers have received broken cups, they seem pretty sturdy and tough to me, even the packing was flawless. Thank you Stone Cups!

Review from Kickstarter
I have commented before, and the facts haven't changed. This project is a farce and the creators are useless. I did get my two cups and no sleeves. The 4-5 oz capacity alone proves fraud as it is advertised at 8 oz. The rough inside surface also awful. So many comments about broken cups. Good luck getting them replaced. They can't ship using proper bubble wrap? Seriously? These is still a place order button on this campaign. Why? DON'T DO IT PEOPLE!

Finally received my cups (Netherlands). 3 of my 6 cups were broken. My sleeves were included. Can you please send me 3 new cups. However, please put a low value on the package - I had to pay another 35 Euro import charges when I received my 6 (=3) cups - I don't want to pay it again for replacement cups.

Robert: I use an engine cylinder hone with 4" long stones to get about 1/3 of the way down from the top. The inside of the cup is curved so the long stones don't touch much of the bottom half of the cup. I am using a brake cylinder hone with 3/4" long stones for the bottom of the cup. The stones on both hones are medium grit. Those just happen to be the size of the honing tools I bought to experiment with. I think it will take about 45 minutes per cup.

Review from Kickstarter
@Fred can you give any more details on the honing tool you used? I have been using a dremel like tool and slow going.

Review from Kickstarter
For anyone wanting the inside of the cup to be smooth there is hope. I just hooked up an automotive honing tool to my drill and honed the inside of one of my cups and it worked well. A honing tool will cost between $20 and $40. I realise that we shouldn't have to do this but at least you know there is a simple way to get the inside of the cup smooth.

Today, I got my two Stone Cups, and they are fine, they feel great. I was expecting more capacity but I don't complain.
The leather sleeves are great too
Devonius Rex
Review from Kickstarter
Received my cups. Poorly packed. One was broken into 4 pieces. Missing a leather sleeve (they must have known one cup was going break..) Quality is nothing like I expected when I pledged. The outside of the cup is polished, insides of half of them have deep grooves from being routered or drilled or whatever they did. Depths are crazily inconsistent. Largest holds about 5 ounces, smallest less than 4. The quality control here really sucks. It's like... gasp... they didn't care! That was clear from the time the project was funded, though. I would never back another project by this guy/group/Rourke. I believe that this is the second project they've crapped out on. Pretty much a ripoff.

I have found the perfect use for my two Stone Cups. I use them exclusively for drinking red wine. They are perfect for it. Just the right size and the wine tastes amazing. The cups did not work well for hot beverages and the size made them unpractical for anything else. I love my cups!

Received my 10 cups today. One was shattered and I had to pay $45 Cdn duty. The cups hold so little liquid that they are not much more than expensive shot glasses.

Today I got the 4 I pledged about.
1. Each one is a different size, height and capacity. Some a bit fatter than the others, one taller, one smaller, etc etc. Even the bottom were uneven between them. Some had router corners, some not.
2. They wrote 190$ on the package instead of 130$ of the pledge price (cups+shipment). Which meant I had to pay 30$ extra to get them.
3. None were broken.
4. I never received any emails they were even on their way. Overall, bad experience, bad communication, bad company.

I received my cups finally after emailing, being told they had shipped them to me but they would "make it right," sending my contact information 2x, and following up another 2x by email until the actually shipped them. Cups are received and are dramatically different sizes on the outside, but inside seems to be same size. Glad I received, but super frustrated at the entire experience and would not recommend kickstarting this company to anyone.
