SnapPower Gives You USB Access Anywhere
Every gadget we have, from our iPhone to our GoPro, seems to charge via USB. While this method is easy with the uniformity, we’re constantly misplacing our USB adapters or leaving them behind. The game-changing designers SnapPower have already shown that no outlet should be left ordinary and have now tackled our only problem with USB.
SnapPower installs in mere seconds to give your outlets some extra purpose. It simply replaces your existing outlet plate and is installed the same way – in seconds with a screw. With no complicated wiring or batteries to deal with, you’ll be able to have multiple SnapPowers throughout your house in no time. The instant benefits are obvious: you can reclaim your two outlets and you always have a place to charge your phone.
The brilliant part of SnapPower is that the USB port is on the side of the very slim outlet plate. This means that it fits snugly behind furniture or just stays out of your way in your kitchen or bathroom. Additionally, with its low profile design, SnapPower doesn’t change the look of your outlets, coming in White, Light Almond, and Ivory, which means you can retain your décor.
SnapPower works with power prong technology: there are two strips on the inside part of the outlet plate that draw power from the screws inside the outlet. This means that there are no wires or difficulty for installation (although it does come with instructions if you need assistance). SnapPower has built-in surge protection and is UL listed and certified.
There are two styles of SnapPower plates: Duplex, which is the standard American outlet, and Décor, which is the open rectangular design. However, it’s important to note that it doesn’t work with GFCI outlets. Those are the ones with the “test” and “reset” buttons often found in bathrooms and kitchens. SnapPower is only available for outlets in North and South America, but hopefully they’ll make their way to Europe soon.
Starting on Kickstarter just a couple weeks ago, SnapPower has already smashed their target of $35k with an incredible $683,000. It’s unclear if they have any ideas for the extra money, but adding multiple USB ports seems to be the number one desire from consumers.
SnapPower is available for pre-order for $16 on Kickstarter for a single outlet plate while multi-packs are available. SnapPower will ship in August 2015 and their campaign ends on May 15th.
