@ Chris - Nope, nothing to update :) Just production for the next month and half or so. We'll post an update once there is something to show, tell, or share. For now, it's just machines doing there thing.

@Falk - We totally agree, the international shipping rates are very expensive. The shipping cost to Europe is about $13.60, so we only charge $12 on our website and eat the $1.60 cost ourselves. It used to only cost $6, but they consolidated weight categories and while that lowered the cost for heavier items, it unfortunately raised them for lightweight shipments. The other Kickstarter campaigns you mention, that offer purchases in their campaign surveys, are doing so using expensive 3rd party software, not the tools Kickstarter provides (which is what we use). We do our best to offer you the best pricing for the rewards, as a thank you for being an early supporter – give you an exclusive deal for your support. If we use 3rd party software, we would be unable to offer the best pricing. That special survey add-on software charges 5% of total raised funds (which they had nothing to do with) + 10% of whatever is purchased during the add-on phase ($6,100 + 10% in our case). Because of that added unnecessary expense, and because it gives a 3rd party access to your personal info (email and address) we don't use it, and just offer the add-ons during the campaign. If it wasn't difficult or expensive etc., we'd love to do it... Unfortunately that's not the case. Again, thanks for your pledge! We're really happy you love the product and if you have any other questions, please feel free to send us a direct message. Thanks again!

Concerning my previous question: that's a pity and I think slightly disappointing. I tried ordering from the website earlier, but the shipping to Europe is ridiculously high, even for such small items. Many other Kickstarter campaigns offer post-campaign surveys to order additional items, isn't this an option? I suppose this shouldn't be too difficult? Thanks gor consideration, I hope you give it a thought. It's an amazing product!

@Aaron - No problem! As for the MEDIUM LINX, those were a Kickstarter exclusive item. We plan to add any extras we have (a limited amount) to our store after all the rewards have been fulfilled and shipped. Thanks again!

@Creator thank you for the info. Will we also be able to order medium linx from your website? Don't appear to be there yet.

Review from Kickstarter
@Falk, @Aleander, @Aaron - We don't have a way to add add-ons or additional items through Kickstarter now that our campaign has ended. However, you can pre-order single additional MINI LINX as well as the Carabiner Set from our website (www.MSTRMNDcollective.com). They will ship separately from your Kickstarter rewards and will probably just show up a few days later than your Kickstarter order, since Kickstarter rewards are our top priority and will absolutely ship first. Good news/bad news: Domestic orders get free shipping through our website, so there are no additional costs there. That's the good news. The bad news is there is we don't have a way to efficiently manage and merge pledges from Kickstarter with orders placed on our website. So, there will be an additional shipping charge calculated at checkout if you order anything from our website. Basically we are unable to combine shipping costs if you decide to pre-order anything from our website. Thanks!

Hello there, I was wondering if it is still possible to overpledge in order to customize the order? Or if I will be able to order add-ons at a later stage? Thanks for help!

@Blake - No, we are not sending shirts, just what you pledged for. That email sent by Kickstarter is just a blanket statement that starts with "IF," letting you know we might be sending a survey (which we will be) to collect certain info. This is what the Kickstarter auto email says (If): "If MSTRMND Collective needs any information from you to send out your reward — like a mailing address or T-shirt size — they’ll send you a survey as soon as they’re ready." Thanks!

I just pledged for a medium ring set but I would like to add another mini Linx so I have 3 mini Linx in total to connect to the medium Linx. Is it possible to add a mini Linx to my order so I only have 1x international shipping cost.
Hope to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

@Qualified Backer - The short answer, durability and longevity. Because the stainless spring is harder than a Ti spring, it will retain it's form and keep its tension much longer than a softer Ti version. Stainless is just much more suitable for this application. Thanks!

The 316 types are used widely in marine applications, but their corrosion resistance in contact with seawater is limited and they cannot be considered 'corrosion proof' under all situations. They are susceptible to localized attack mechanisms, principally crevice and pitting corrosion. This limits the scope for the use of these steels in seawater contact. The 304, and more especially the free machining 303 types, should not be considered suitable for seawater service.
Sulphide inclusions outcropping on the surface of the 303 type are preferential pitting corrosion sites. Factors governing the corrosion resistance of 316 types in seawater The factors governing the corrosion resistance and hence suitability of the 316 types has been well documented by many workers in these fields of research. These factors work together and include Water quality Flow rates Temperature Oxygen levels Cathodic protection Seawater quality The chloride levels can vary depending on the location and influence of tides.
The levels encountered in even 'brackish' waters are above those where crevice corrosion can be expected to be a corrosion hazard.
Intermittent exposure, for example in tidal zones, has been noted as less of a corrosion risk. This may be due to the fact that the steel surfaces are effectively 'washed' by the changes in water levels.
Water evaporation effects could however increase the corrosion risks in splash zones, if the chlorides concentrate in a damp or wet environment. It is important not to let seawater stand in contact with the steel unnecessarily. Horizontal 316 tube sections handling seawater have been noted to fail by pitting after only short periods. Free draining surfaces and the avoidance of horizontal tube runs are important to the successful use of 316 in contact with seawater. If tubing systems are hydro-tested using seawater, this must be drained and flushed immediately after the test period. Failure to do this has resulted in corrosion to 316 systems. Water flow rates 'High' flow rates are preferable (ie over 1 metre / second). Slow moving water can encourage biofouling, which can then result in shielding or crevice corrosion. Stagnant seawater conditions must be avoided.
Increases in flow rates reduce the risk of corrosion and so applications such as pumps, can be successful applications for 316 types in seawater handling. Water temperature The crevice corrosion risk increases with temperature. Contact with heated seawater is not advisable. Ambient temperatures in northern European waters, as a guide, are around the maximum that a 316 should be expected to cope with, even if other conditions are favorable. Stress corrosion cracking is not usually a concern in the temperatures that the 316 would be used at. (Higher temperatures would probably result in crevice and pitting corrosion anyway) Water oxygen levels (deaeration) Stainless steels rely on a source of oxygen to maintain their passive condition. Aerated seawater however can be more corrosive than de-aerated seawater.
It has been found that very low levels of oxygen, such as those found at sea depths of around 200 metres, make seawater less aggressive. This is associated with the slowing down of pitting corrosion rates. Cathodic protection Cathodic protection can be applied ie electrically or derived from contact with less 'noble' metals, including carbon steel and aluminium. Direct contact with these metals can help improve the resistance of the 316 types of stainless steel, at the expense of the other metal.
Although the stainless steel can benefit, there may be a concern that the overall durability of a fabrication involving such combinations could be compromised. 'Engineered' crevices (surface finish and post fabrication cleaning) Crevice and the closely related pitting corrosion mechanisms are the forms of local attack that are normally responsible for the failure of the 316 types in seawater service.
Any form of crevices must be avoided. These can occur through Design geometry (sharp corners or grooves) Flanged joints with gaskets Mechanical fastening systems Intercystalline (intergranular) corrosion has been detected on laboratory sensitized (heat-treated) 316 when subsequently exposure in seawater. The use of the low carbon 316L types such as grades 1.4404 or 1.4432 should avoid this additional corrosion risk in welded structures. The surface finish weld quality and finishing of the steel can be important factors in the successful use of 316 types in seawater service applications.
These may be more important issues than factors such as the actual chloride concentration. Smooth, clean finishes and well-finished welded joints contribute to the corrosion resistance of the steel. Apologize for the long post, I hope this helps.

Kristian. If the keyring is 316l stainless, it will hold up pretty well vs saltwater as long as you rinse it with freshwater afterwards. Only issue with it I would see is that over time the chlorides might build up in the crevices of the ring segments which could lead to pitting in those regions over time. They do sell titanium keyrings on Amazon for fairly cheap that would be easy to swap out with the stainless ones ;)

Thank you for the answer. I am mostly interested in the medium linx. Would it be possibly to get 4 or 6 medium linx and nothing else?

Review from Kickstarter
@Kristian - Thanks for your pledge! Since the gate is stainless steel, it's certainly resistant to corrosion in saltwater, however I'm not sure to what degree. I don't know what grades of stainless are actually corrosion-proof. Because of that, I'm unfortunately unable to answer your question.

@Alex - Yes, you can link 4 together (3 MINI LINX onto a single MINI LINX). Technically you can even fit another (5), but it's tight and not recommended simply because it becomes quite clunky at that point. If you wanted to use all MINI LINX, it would be better to simply link the additional ones in a cascading fashion (Barrel of Monkeys-style). Thanks!

@Moxxi - Because of the discounted nature of sets, you'd see the biggest gain from upgrading your pledge from the Carabiner Set, to the Double Super-Set, since it includes the MEDIUM LINX you'd like to add (at a discounted rate), plus an essentially free additional MINI LINX. Thanks!
