Let’s face it; your clothing isn’t always comfortable. The cotton tee shirt you chose in the morning can seem suffocating by mid-day if you’re working around the house. And if you live in an area where the weather is often humid, even 78 degrees Fahrenheit can feel sweltering. In both situations, you’ll want to change your clothes if you’re at home. But according to the makers of the Cool Human Endothermic Cooling Shirt®, the answer isn’t changing your clothes, but better clothing. Specifically, a tee shirt that can manage moisture.

This cooling tee shirt looks like a high-quality one. It features TACTEL® fabric, which is known as the “cotton alternative” fabric. Clothing made with TACTEL® is more lightweight than natural fabrics. It’s also soft against the skin, which ups the comfort factor. Stylewise, the Cool Human Endothermic Cooling Shirt® comes in both Deep V-Neck and Crew Neck. So you have options when it comes to pairing this shirt. And because of its comfortable material, this shirt has what the company terms a “tribrid” function. This means you can wear it as a tee shirt, undershirt, or base layer. That’s a pretty functional gadget.

How does this sweat-activated tee work?

According to the company’s Kickstarter page, two components turn this tee shirt into a cooling powerhouse: the fabric production technology and the fabric finishing technology. Let’s look at the fabric-finishing technology first.

What is xylitol, and why is it in this shirt?

Xylitol is an all-natural sugar alcohol that naturally occurs in some fruits, white birch, and corn. You’ve probably put it in your coffee before. In addition to its sweetening properties, xylitol also has an endothermic (heat-absorbing) reaction when it comes into contact with moisture. This is one of the ways this shirt can keep wearers so cool. The fabric is infused with xylitol. So the hotter you get, the cooler your shirt will feel, even if there isn’t any wind. This makes the tee shirt ideal for humid conditions, indoors, or on a hot day with no breeze.

How does the fabric keep this heat-proof tee shirt cool?

As I mentioned before, this cooling tee shirt features a fabric called TACTEL®. Yes, it’s lighter in weight and softer than most other materials. But it’s also more absorbent and dries out eight times faster than cotton. So while the xylitol gives you that cooling effect, the fabric itself will help moisture disappear quickly. That’s a good thing since nobody likes sweat stains on their tee shirt. TACTEL® is also three times stronger than natural materials and features a four-way stretch feature that makes movement easier. So the cool Human Endothermic Cooling Shirt® is flexible and durable enough to wear while you’re working out.

Where can I wear this breathable tee shirt?

Pretty much anywhere. Because of the fabric’s durable, flexible nature, you can feel confident wearing the Cool Human Endothermic Cooling Shirt® at the office, gym, while you’re traveling, out on an errand, and more. Also, its 50-gauge fabric isn’t as transparent as others. This means you can wear it as you would a typical tee shirt or as an undershirt/base layer with practically no added bulk.

Does this endothermic tee shirt offer UV protection?

Yes. Because of its high 50-gauge fabric, this cooling tee shirt provides UPF15 for sun protection. So although its fabric is wafer-thin, it still blocks a significant portion of the sun’s UV rays from reaching your skin. In contrast, the typical cotton tee shirt only gives you the protection of around UPF5. That’s a significant difference.

Does this shirt absorb odor?

There’s not much point in having a cooling tee shirt if it harbors bad odors. Don’t worry, the creators of this shirt have thought of this, too. The microvesicles of this tee shirt also contain anti-bacterial agents like undecanol monoglyceride, which keeps the growth of bacteria in check.

Is this shirt made sustainably?

We hear a lot about the dangers of chemicals from clothing that leach out into the soil and oceans once we throw them away. Luckily, xylitol is an odorless natural compound that complies with OEKOTEX safety standards. Also, the company’s fabric processing adheres to ZDHC guidelines for using chemicals that are safer for the environment. Finally, the company tries to reduce its fabric waste during production, one of the biggest problems in the garment business.

The Cool Human Endothermic Cooling Shirt® is an excellent buy for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable as they go about their day. This cooling tee shirt has been engineered right down to its fibers to lower your body temperature and allow for the quick absorption and drying of moisture. Also, the fabric itself is soft to the touch and has a little stretch that facilitates movement. This sweat-activated tee shirt is an excellent staple for any wardrobe since its suitable for exercise and lounging at home as well as an undershirt/base shirt for the office or travel. With this tee shirt, you’ve never been more comfortable.

The Cool Human Endothermic Cooling Shirt® costs $44, and you can preorder it on the official website.
