Look amazing and be sustainable in this innovative eco sweater
Most of us spend at least part of our day trying to make the world around us a little bit better. Even if you don't have kids, it's important to think of the planet you're leaving behind for future generations. But how much do you think about the clothing you wear having an impact on that?
Our clothing has a huge impact on the world around us. From fast fashion to animal cruelty, there’s a lot to think about. Unfortunately, a lot of the clothes we wear falls into one of those two categories. One of the solutions is only to buy higher-quality clothes that will last longer. But one of the materials higher-quality clothes is made of is wool. And wool farmers use a process called mulesing. For men, there’s a new option to ensure you’re purchasing environmentally friendly, cruelty-free clothing: Applied Zcience’s Eco Innovative Hoodie Sweater.
Men, if you’re ready to look good and feel good about what you’re wearing, this eco sweater should be the next purchase on your list.
What this eco sweater is made from
We don’t typically spend a lot of time thinking about what our clothes are made from and how they are made. Some of us look at the tags briefly just to see if it’s a material that might be itchy or might shrink when we wash the item. Some people won’t wear polyester because it irritates their skin. Some people don’t wear anything but cotton.
But overall, it’s not something we put a lot of thought into on a daily basis. Thankfully, Applied Zcience has put a lot of thought into the materials they use and the impact that usage has on the environment. And they’ve thought through the entire cycle. From how the materials are made, to how the materials are acquired. They use cruelty-free wool and an innovative yarn called Refibra™ Lyocell. You’re probably thinking, “Okay. Wool and yarn. Sounds pretty standard.” Except in this case, it’s anything but standard.
Only 10% of the wool on the marketplace is cruelty-free, certified non-mulesing. (You might not know what mulesing is, and we won’t get into that here. Suffice to say, it isn’t a great process. But we’ll leave you to do your own research on that.) Applied Zcience gets their wool from South Africa, and they use 19.5 micron extrafine merino wool.
Refibra™ Lyocell is an upcycled yarn made from cotton waste and wood pulp. They get the cotton and cutting waste from garment factories, and the wood pulp comes from sustainably managed forests.
Refibra™ Lyocell’s circular cycle
- Cotton waste from factories is turned into a pulp
- Wood chips from sustainable forests are turned into a pulp
- The pulps from the cotton and wood chip processes are combined
- They add solvents that are 99% reused in each closed-loop process
- Create and produce the staple fiber
- Spin the fiber into a yarn
- Knit the end garment

Is wool hard to care for?
Not this wool. Many people avoid wool clothes because they think that the first time they wash their sweater, it’ll be half the size that it originally was. And let’s face it, we’ve all had that happen to us. We’ve washed it in the wrong temperature, or we’ve broken the cardinal rule: Never put wool in the dryer. But if you know how to care for your wool clothes, you won’t have a problem at all with a shrunken or misshapen sweater.
This eco sweater is extremely easy to care for. It also doesn’t need to be washed as much, since it resists odors.
How to care for your hoodie sweater
- Machine wash on the gentle cycle, at the cold max temp (30°)
- Don’t bleach it
- Lay it flat to dry
- Don’t tumble dry it
- Iron on medium if you want to iron it
- Don’t hang it on a hanger
- Wear it, look good, feel good
