MOTA has been making strides in the wearable tech market since 1999, aiming to create attractive, functional, and affordable technology that competes with the likes of Google and Nike. They have their brand of smart watches for sale and are beta testing their own version of smart eyewear. On September 3, they released a video, as well as launched their Indiegogo campaign, showcasing their newest product in the making, the MOTA SmartRing.
The SmartRing is simple, yet intended to be efficient. You can discreetly see who is calling you, check the time, or view a text message. You can adjust the settings to get notifications from specific apps and individuals that you want to hear from, and single out those that you don’t. Swipe to read a message or to remove the notification-its platform is simply simple. At first glance, it’s merely a piece of sleek-looking jewelry.
You don’t have to have your phone in your hand to see your notifications, however, you will have to pull out your phone to respond to your messages or make a phone call. The SmartRing is for notifications only. On the more technical side, it utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 to communicate with both the Android and iOS smartphones. The ring is charged by placing it on top of a wireless charger, but there is no word yet on how long each charge will last for. Color options include midnight black and pearl white and the ring is water resistant- hopefully it will be scratch resistant as well.
