This article draws on TCF’s Kickstarter category-level data across three periods: a Q1 2026 dataset covering 4,476 projects, Q2 2026 category exports, and category exports covering campaigns launched between January 1 and June 30, 2026. Success rates include only campaigns that had reached a final outcome at the time of data capture, while funding totals include both funded and still-live campaigns. “Technology” refers to Kickstarter’s official Technology category.
The four gadget types highlighted in this article, premium home cinema, on-device AI hardware, single-purpose robots, and desktop fabrication tools, were selected based on the size and performance of standout Technology campaigns in TCF’s analysis. They represent the leading patterns identified in the dataset, not an exhaustive classification of Kickstarter’s Technology category or all funding generated within it.
Technology raised roughly $182 million on Kickstarter in the first half of 2026, the largest share of everything the platform brought in during that stretch. Technology’s share of the pie kept expanding month over month, which means the gap between it and every other category is a trend still building.
